spoiler Thorax and the Changelings Sexes

I have a theory that the Changelings are heavily based on the Bees and Ants. Males are usually a separate caste from the worker, soldier and queen ants though he could belong to the soldier caste as he was part of the attack on Canterlot. Thorax being a male felt alienated from the others for this reason.

DID YOU JUST ASSUME THORAX'S GENDER? I'M TRIGGERED!!!

xD

I always thought that there was only one female ant which was the queen ant all the rest were male workers. Changelings are one of those creatures where you can't really guess what their gender is unless you heard them speak, but that's why we know that Thorax is a male.

Yea...I dunno.....I'm just gonna assume their all male.

Then i guess we can assume that if the queen should fall for any reason--ie death, dethroned, coup de tat, etc--then one of the male drones, preferably the one of the next highest status below the queen, would spontaneously turn female to become a queen? I'm unsure of how that works, but it works for clownfish.

Maybe when ants are born, they are born with female hormones as well so that they can turn into a female at will? xD

Or maybe it works like Metroids. All metroids can evolve all the way to the stage of the Omega Metroid, which for some reason looks like an alien T-Rex, but certain Metroids have the DNA structure to become Queens.

From a RP and lore aspect (personal thoughts)

I'd stick to the camp that changelings either:

A: Follow the makeup of bee colonies like a good portion of the fandom accepts.

B: that the rank and file (all) are androgynous and either don't really identify with anything there for the uniform apperances. Or choose their sex after their birth either as a permanent thing or "in spirt".

She is called queen Chrysalis for a reason I assume. She isn't married, is she? Celestia is called a Princess and not a Queen.

But I know Hasbro's explanation was Queens are more often used as villains in stories so wanted to call her a Princess instead, thus they just called Chryssi a queen due to the same reasons.

But lore wise we can say they are yes like roosters, two queens would get territorial over the control of the minions and how it should be done so it is likely she is a queen anyways.

But my idea of it is she resembling a pony or alicorn, is that their race were a cursed pony race and she just took up leadership after such. We know the crystal empire existed without previous knowledge implied since the start, and a thousand years is along time, a couple of empires could've been cursed by some villains, or heck it might be like a 'they earned their curse' sorta deal similar to how the coldness of heart causes literal coldness (and ice) from windigos.

A curse makes sense too due to thorax not being in control of his impulses or native responses to certain situations.

I would say the changelings are more relatable to bees than ants. If you aren't familiar with the rankings of each, then look them up. It is actually pretty fascinating. But to answer the question, I'm going to say there are male and female changelings. That way they aren't be sexist. Just maybe they can't reproduce. The thing you got to remember that MLP is a kids show so I think the writers would want to avoid that question of how their characters reproduce at all costs. LOL!

Queen Chrysalis I think is pretty much the mother of all the changelings. Though I'm guessing the raising of the changeling hatchlings would be shared among the older changelings, such as maybe a pair adopting a baby or two to raise as their own. But that is just a hunch. Do remember that Thorax said he was raised by an evil queen (aka his mom). A lot of these questions will be answered, I hope, with another episode or two dedicated to changelings.

It's probably like bees/ants, with one queen and a backup or two, that may or may not be in "storage" at any given lifestage. The workers probably are either born as a) a mix of males and females, that may or may not be sterile, b.) hermaphrodites, c) no sex at all, or d) able to freely change from one to the other at will.

There's also probably either males specifically bred for breeding, and once they've bred, her body stores the seed for a long period of time, so that she doesn't need to keep an "almost useless" breeding male around forever. Maybe she eats him later, IDK. But that seems like something she'd do. Or maybe, she breeds with pony stallions.

They could be like wolves - the alpha male and female are the only ones who produce offspring. So apart from Queen Chrysalis, we have a King of some sort (I'm just gonna call him Meruem... if you get that reference, you are awesome ;)). The "lower" castes can be male or female, and can breed together but usually don't unless they rise high enough in the hierarchy to become the alpha, King or Queen. Although, to be honest, I don't count Chrysalis's presence at Thorax' birth as any indication she is the literal mother of the Changelings.

Happy minion of The Fabulous One!

Let's considers behaviour of such animal as naked mole-rat. They are living in colonies similar to ant's or bees - one queen and others are workers of both genders. Any female can become a queen on creation of new colony or in case if old queen dead. I guess that this theory is most simple.

I always wondered if the Changelings were transsexual, that is able to change their sex at will as they can change their apperance at will?

I somewhat wondered that too, but eh I don't know.

In my headcanon, changelings are asexual, as in they lack reproductive organs, while Queens are born hermaphrodites and reproduce asexually. A changeling can take on a preferred gender, but this is rare and atypical. Changelings that do so, usually are outliers and free thinkers like Thorax, and not your typical changeling.
