Hunting thread!

if you find this disturbing im sorry but just move along ive already asked a mod if this thread was alright and they said yes

Ok so before anyone gets too heated i want to start this off by saying in my country (Australia) hunting is actually super important because the Ecosystem has evolved over the millennia that Humanity IS the natural predator that's just how the environment has evolved after the aboriginals caused other predators to go extinct (they're not the bastions of the earth like everyone thinks they are they did in fact environmentally destroy Australia to shape it to better suit their needs)

that being said i hunt for conservation so i usually go after non native species which we (unfortunately) have a lot of everything from ducks and rabbits to Elk and Wolves (Dingo)

personally i don't really approve of say shooting a bear for the sake of it i think if you hunt it should be for food or the environment but then again i don't know what the ecosystems of America and Alaska are like i don't know if bear hunting is a conservation thing

any way do you hunt? what do you go after? do you use a rifle or a bow?

I've never done hunting myself but I used to visit a place that was full of hunters called Eliot Lake.  I swear about 1 in every 10 people who lived their hunted.  You even had to wear reflective orange hats or vests if you went for a walk so hunters would not shoot you.  I have never seen anything like it before.

Anyways, I heard a story from one of them were one of the members on a hunt shot a dear across a river just for the fun of it with no intention of bringing it back.  One of the hunters (not the one shot it) waded across the river in freezing cold conditions just to get the body to make a point to the other hunters.  Hopefully the one who shot the dear learnt his lesson after that one.

I hear rabbits have infested Australia, any truth to this?

Hunting should be encouraged more. It requires vast amount of undeveloped(read natural) spaces thus promoting environmentally friendly ecosystems plus it's a far more humane source of food than the industrial farming which in most cases practice various forms of torture to the animals. And that's not even going into the actual necessity of hunting to keep certain populations under control as to not destroy local ecosystems.

I love to deer hunt and peer fish.

Growing up in a small country town that relied mainly on the hunting industry and football, it kind of became a part of my life until we moved to the city. Usually use a good ole buckshot shotgun for deer hunting and a cane pole to bass fish.

we use biological weapons against them there was a virus which was horrible it turned them into walking corpses so now they are developing a new virus which gives them a little cold and they'll just go to sleep one night an never wake up them the problem with rabbits is they breed like mice i don't think they will ever go away

that was outlawed here years and years ago we actually refuse to trade livestock with countries that still use factory or battery farming

Does fishing count as hunting?

well its part of the whole outdoor adventure thing

and a cane pole to bass fish.

use Rapala bro you'll get more fish

Ah Australia must not trade livestock with the US then lol. Only have of the states here protest farm animals under animal cruelty laws, sad really.

yeah see that's a shit thing to do like if im a 2 day hike in wilderness and i get something as small as a Fox im not going to just leave it there i'll take it out with me and dispose of it or get the Bounty for its pelt

we do but its real strict like it has to be with farms that are free range and they have to be inspected before hand

the major chicken supplier here does this really weird thing so their chickens have radio tags on them and when you buy them from the store they have a kind of barcode so you can enter the code and see where the chicken had been around the farm over about a week before it was killed its kind of interesting but i don't know why it exists i think its just to show people that yes the chickens do get to wonder around where ever they want mind you i went past this farm they have like square kilometers to roam around in but they just clump together in a moving chicken carpet its funny to look at

Hunting for sport should be a crime.

as stated in original post if it offends move along

like wise no one hunts for sport anymore there is a sporting element to it but the majority of it is for the sake of conservation hunting with a bow and most definitely with a rifle is not Cruel no hunter wants to take a shot that will not kill the animal outright you want to be as humane as possible in the sake of rifles the animal doesn't feel a thing in the case with bows they just go sleepy times and never wake up

"hunting for sport" is things like fox hunting which has been outlawed in the UK for quite some time

I'm fully in favor of hunting out of necessity or with the intent to eat the prey (we don't have to hunt our food, but there's nothing wrong with doing so). I can get behind hunting to decrease populations of animals, to a degree, although I believe we shouldn't be interfering in ecosystems if we don't have to. Overpopulation and death are part of nature too, and the balance either restores itself or it doesn't, but that's just the way things go. (I'm not talking about pollution, or man-made problems like introducing predators somewhere that then destroy the balance, just about an explosive growth in predator population through natural means and subsequent famines)

If you're hunting just for the sake of killing though, then fuck you. I don't agree with killing for anything other than necessity. I have no problems whatsoever with eating any animal you care to name, but shooting them just because you want to gloat is beyond stupid.

I don't hunt myself, but my stepdad does. He mainly hunts deer, although he wants to bag himself a boar some day. His prey then becomes dinner, as it should. He's got a shotgun (well, it fires shot, as in the lead balls. Not sure as to the actual English word so shotgun it is) as well as .350 rifle. He uses the shotgun mainly for geese and the .350 for deer and boars.

I'd like to get into fishing more. Something nice about just chilling and waiting for a catch. Unfortunately, I have neither the money nor climate resistance where I live(NT, Australia) to carry out good fishing trips. So I've not gone out in years.

Oh yeah, I've started hunting with my dad when I was about 14 years old. We'd normally hunt on a pickup van to seek rabbits to shoot. My greatest shot was one where the rabbit started to run, and I shot at it's anticipated location and bullseye. I've also hunted deer a couple of times the same way at another location. My last hunting experiences, was going to a crop farm to hunt ducks. Let me tell you, playing Duck Hunt Real Life Edition is awesome. Sadly, my parent's country has gone to crime hell, and their passing kinda put a hold on my chances at hunting. I don't think I'll be able to hunt for years now that I've just moved to Florida and I have yet to work
