Daybreaker should've actually happened

"A Royal Problem" should've stayed more slice of life and Daybreaker should've been saved for a season finale. I really think they missed out on an amazing opportunity when they showed Daybreaker in A Royal Problem. Yeah it was pretty cool to see how Celestia would be if she got "nightmared" but it would've been much MUCH better to save her for a season finale to surprise and awe fans with her reveal. (and for her to ACTUALLY turn into her) Not to mention the whole "fight" with Daybreaker and Nightmare Moon in the dream sequence didn't have ANY weight because I knew it was a dream.

Do you agree? Disagree? Thoughts?

I actually REALLY agree with this notion. This would have been a great idea. A Royal Problem is an episode I am not a fan of, I will say that now. There were many things I didn't like about it and one of the obvious reasons was that it wasn't a slice of life episode. There wasn't much bonding between the sisters. And because of the dream thing, Daybreaker now is essentially a canonical cameo more than anything. It was really cool to see her and I thought her dialogue was awesome, but imagine that being in Celestia's mind in a different scenario, that would have been better to me. We could have had the slice of life sister bonding episode, the same point could have been shown for them to appreciate each other and Celestia then later could have a moment of weakness which leads to the same corruption that created Nightmare Moon and then that finale would write itself. It really feels like a missed opportunity.

I wanna see her fight Grogar at some point, maybe her and Nightmare Moon fight on the same side, Celestia and Luna controlling their anger towards eachother, and using it against Grogar.

Interesting idea. I would only like to see that if Daybreaker was already established in an earlier episode/season finale with her as the main focus. Then on another season finale, Grogar can make his debut and Celestia and Luna would have to channel the darkness within to fight Grogar together. I wouldn't like it if Daybreaker and Grogar were revealed in the same season finale because it could end up having "Spider-Man 3 syndrome". i.e. too many villains.

I agree that it was a missed opportunity but I suppose they wanted to include this possibility of an alternate Celestia at this point to throw the audience for a loop. They could have spent some parts of the season playing up the notion that Celestia could become consumed with power and wanting to embrace it by becoming Daybreaker, but then the problem is that we've already had this through Nightmare Moon and Daybreaker was essentially a Celestia version of Nightmare Moon. It would have been seen as retreading through familiar territory even if the character is different. Perhaps the concept could yet be salvaged for something in the future?

I don't see how it would be retreading through familiar territory. There are so many things you can do differently. How and why she becomes Daybreaker, the consequences/impact of this happening, Daybreaker's actual personality, who and what defeats Daybreaker (no magic rainbows!). And even if we did retread through familiar territory, I would still want to see it. XD I just love the concept of Daybreaker. :D

That would be cool but I just can't see Celestia going evil.

Yeah it's hard to imagine but I think it's possible. If not evil maybe just corrupted and mislead. Just like Starlight.

From a writing perspective, Daybreaker would have felt too gimmicky and a waste if used in a finale. As much as I enjoyed that little nod, I'm far more interested in antagonists in situations I can't predict. Daybreaker's thematic elements almost become a paint by numbers approach. It's an outline that is is ridiculously easy to plot out.

If we are to get the hero turned evil and role reversal tropes, it would be better to corrupt Twilight, Cadance, or even Starlight at this point. More nuanced and emotionally poignant. Daybreaker was best used in the exact fashion she was.

Cadence doesn't strike me as the type who would go corrupt. Twilight maybe and Starlight maybe. Twilight would be interesting, but I would prefer to see daybreaker again. Why did they name her that?

If someone kidnaps Cadance's kid, I'm certain that would be enough to push her over the edge. Also more sympathetic than jealousy from a narrative standpoint.

I agree the name is odd. I'm assuming they didn't want to use a Nightmare named theme because it really doesn't fit Celestia's magic and scheme. I would have preferred a two name structure like Daybreak Nova or something like that.

Hm.

How about Daymare Sun? Or simply Corona.

Maybe even Solar Flare? I remember someone making a comment on a Story of the Two Sisters video where they retell said story with roles switched (i.e. Celestia is the one to turn evil) and Celestia's evil form was referred to as Solar Flare. I'm personally fond of that name idea.

As for Daybreaker actually happening, I'd say leave it to fanfics and stuff like that. If I'm not mistaken, Daybreaker is more or less a Celestia version of Nightmare Moon and there wouldn't be much of a difference between them, and I think introducing her as an actual living villain might essentially just recycle the premise of the series premiere (and some people really dislike rehashes). Not to mention it's highly unlikely for Celestia to go evil unless her character gets forcefully derailed for the plot to work or if Daybreaker ends up being an entirely different entity altogether or whatever.

That's just my 2 cents :P

I think there should be a three parter involving Daybreaker, Nightmare Moon, and another villain.

The first half of the 1st ep. would be building to the final fight.

The first half of the second ep. would the sisters slowly falling to the evil they used to defeat the other villain.

Then the 1st half of the last ep. would be the Mane Six and Cadence letting their own dark side show in order to free the sisters, only for the next Season to show them trying to fight that dark side.

What do you think?

The retreading would be the overall concept itself.

Still, I want to see more of Daybreaker as well as she's a character too intriguing to be limited to just a dream.

Daybreaker was already a legitimate threat. It doesn't matter if she wasn't real. If Celestia didn't stop her and Nightmare Moon in the dream world, Starlight's mind would have been left in shambles.

Well, I mean it could have been saved for a finale.

I just don't think it would have been that interesting

I'm hoping we get a cool new villain.

Like how Starlight was in the cutie map episodes. That was very creative village with a unuiqe problem and an interesting villain who wasn't really directly an out in the open villain.

It was really just a corruption thing.

I think we have had too many " muahhahaha I'm evil! " villains.

I think the writers should stick to a villain that just has loose morals and is not directly openly evil, like Starlight.

We are probably gonna see a Queen Chrysalis comeback in the finale :/

Just based on how season 6 ended, that tells me she is coming back. Which I don't care for Queen Chrysalis tbh. She just really isn't that interesting to me.

Dang. Opinions. They're so... subjective! >__<

It's not too late for Daybreaker to ACTUALLY happen! It would give a good excuse for Twilight to take over Celestia's spot and be her successor, like what Lauren wanted!

You know what would be cool (but which they would never do)?

If Celestia were the ultimate villain of the whole series.

Hear me out. I'm thinking of her in a more "well-intentioned extremist" sense than an outright malicious character. We still haven't got an answer on just how she's managed to live 1000 years - the show never actually said "it's because she's an alicorn". They could go some dark places with that. Character development for Twilight, too, where she learns she has to stop idolizing Celestia.

Exactly.:fiery: She DOES need to get it through her thick Alicorn skull that Celestia's NOT infallible!
