Do Fanfics Ever Horrify You?

So, interesting topic here: fanfics. I write fanfics myself and I admit die-hards to shows will admit the behavior I write about is considered OOC (out-of-character). I think we only see specific sides of characters in different genres so I see as writing say a normally happy character as having something to make them depressed (say Maud died and Pinkie Pie lost her bounciness). I do love fanfiction in many ways because it can fill the gaps in stories and explore characters that are considered to be background. For media that doesn't have continuity the universes can also be interesting to fill in the blanks.

That being said, I find some fanfics to be horrifying in what they do to characters. I do not mean atrocious writing, although that exists. I suppose I refer mainly to lemon/lime fics which I find um disturbing for characters created for kid's shows. Lemon/limes are more like smut to me than actual writing since most of it is like a p*rn of Harlequin novel. I also find the whole violent (i.e. horrifying zombie) thing with ponies to just be wrong.

I usually find darker fics interesting, because I want to see how ponies would adapt to horrifying situations, not out of morbidity. But if I see one that's there for the sole purpose of brutalizing the ponies, I'd run miles away from it

One that could have made me go NOPE as soon as I read the synopsis would be one where Fluttershy is imprisoned in a bondage dungeon "against her will". But, as you may have noticed the quotation marks, I've read it and saved me from being traumatized because I've knew before hand that was a sexual roleplay, INITIATED BY HER ON TOP OF THAT 

Though there's one I did find horrifying, where Fluttershy is brutalized, and sexually assaulted by three stallions..... It would be an understatement if I mention that I was depressed for her that lasted a whole week

The popular ones are the more disturbingly messed up ones e.g. Cupcakes, Rainbow Factory, and *censored cause you don't wanna know and if I told you, you'd be scarred for life XD*. So yeah, it's nothing short of terrifying

The ones I've mentioned are all in fimfiction, where else  ? Seriously, unless it's bipedal anthro or human mature stories, all bets are off.

Some dark fics like Fallout Equestria don't bother me because the author clearly cared about storytelling and all that goes into doing it effectively. Yeah it's got dark elements but those come from the Fallout elements of the storyline and the alternate universe. It's not just violence and darkness for the sake of "Ooooh, I want lots of gore in this!!" Few characters from FiM show up anyway. So I don't have to cringe at them doing extremely OOC stuff.

The more "messed up" ones about serial killer ponies are the ones that annoy me. Plus I will never read a clopfic in my life.

People always mix n match everything, its inevitable, like I am sure even r34 teletubbies exist somewhere. And no, it doesn't bother me, but yes when I was younger it did and I see how it can bother others. But even young teens can draw some pretty edgy material or porn so, its not really a concern, its just the arts, they always touch on mature or darker themes.

Nah. Although the idea of the Mane 6 playing a role in turning Equestria into a Wasteland is pretty disturbing. And then there's the fanfics where Pinkie Pie is a murderous cannibal, Rainbow Dash runs a factory where dead foals are used to make rainbows, and there was this bash fic about 28 Pranks Later where the ponies become real zombies, and Twilight commits suicide in the end. And then there's those Fall of Equestria fanfics. Perverted Caribou. What the heck is up with that?

Such fanfics are a part of the brony fandom as much as comedy's or romances fanfics like clopfics and grimdarks are enjoyable to those into that sort of thing like myself I accept all parts of the fandom and the fanfics generated by it some are more disturbing than others like the sweet Apple massacre but it is what it is

I am absolutely horrified by Cupcakes. The cupcakes in the show are said to have a secret ingredient that was never mentioned, and Cupcakes is an interesting grimdark twist that I can respect. Though, I really dislike watching the videos of the act happening since Rainbow is my favorite pony, but that's a biased hate just because I like Rainbow Dash and the fanfic is otherwise good.

The only fanfic that i've read thus far that really horrified me was Cupcakes. Yes, I absolutely love grimdark content, but that story... just too darn dark and creepy for its own good. Rainbow Factory didn't horrify me as much as cupcakes did, mostly because of Pinkie being... well Pinkie in Cupcakes. I can safely say that I will more than likely NEVER EVER read Cupcakes again. As for Fallout Equestria... I genuinely love that fanfic.

Yeah. Definitely. Some of the things that they make characters do is rather...disturbing, to say the least. I don't mind blood and gore, but some people seem to have a rather large obsession with lemons and incest. They're rather...unique...?

Nope, because I avoid reading the disturbing ones. Some people have some genuinely interesting and creative stories to tell... while others are just twisted or cruel for shock value.

I don't like reading them. For example, that famous one named after baked goods – I have heard of it and know approximately what happens in it, but I'm not interested in something like that. I doubt I'd be traumatized by them, as I've read some disturbing stuff before, but I just don't like the idea. MLP is a show about friendship. I'm fine with people writing any kind of stories and others reading them, but to me, characters killing others is not at all representative of what the series is.

I have not felt horror only apprehension since I was like 16 or so and older bro showed me a jump scare gore scene in some random movie.

Fanfics I can feel disgust at worst, usually I have a grim curiosity.

Though I prefer creative ideas, it doesn't matter if they are dark to me. It can be epic or intriguing and if its super dark it won't bother me.

But um, bad gore fics I haven't really read so can't say for those. It would be a mild fear perhaps at best/worst, not terror.

Most of the M-rated fics I read are Sex-tagged and so far, I've yet to read a fan fiction that truly horrified me.
