I think it has to do with her rejecting pony society and their ways of life. This is due to her being burned by those friends who turned away from her after she broke her horn.

no1 past the everfree forest ever used anypony in the movie, and the ponys themselves where seen as livestock or inferior. some1 even tried to sell them. she grew up in that world.

Daniel Ingram told me on Twitter it was intentionally done based on her backstory and joked they liked to think Tempest introduced the term anybody to Equestria.
