movies/tv What is the best Batman movie of all time?

In your mind, what do you all consider as the best film about Batman?  Not just as one of the stars, but as the main star?  It can be anything from Tim Burton to Christopher Nolan.

Me?  If you ask me what I think is one of the best Batman films of all time, "Mask of the Phantasm" is one for the road.  Every character in this movie played their part well to the story, the romance was handled better than Tim Burton's Batman, and even the Joker was at his best.

I am a really big fan of Tim Burton's Batmans, and I love Jack Nicholson as the Joker.  That being said, I loved Dark Knight.  Christian Bale was excellent and Heath Ledger did an fantastic psychological mind trip Joker.  I loved the pencil trick.  And Adam West is in a class of his own...  I am a big fan of the dark and tortured character.  I think that as a whole, Tim Burton got the whole darkness of Gotham city better than anyone, but I don't know if you can actually say who is a better Joker, I think it's just matter of great actors interpreting the character in their own way.  But I don't like many of the actors who played Bateman, and I don't care what anyone says, Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze were horrible jokes.

And, isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, oooh, the sky is the limit.-- The Tick

For me the Nolan Trilogy just always felt to realistic for a comic book movie and i was actually a bit disappointed, it wasnt as crazy and colorful as i would have liked it.

The Tim Burton Movies are just weird, they try to be dark but at the same time ad this weird comedy scenes that dont quite fit the mood. Batman and Robin is certainly crazy enough, but doesnt capture the Batman Character and his Universe all to well.

And " Batman - Mask of the Phantasm " was just a bit boring for me, the Plot Twist was very obvious, so there wasnt much Mystery and the Animation in the most part, wasnt really all that better in contrast to the series so it just felt like an overly long episode or maybe this is just another case off " Everybody praises it and i have way to high expectations ". The Action was okay, even though the cheesy flash backs kinda ruined the movie for me. The Adam West Movie is a joke...i dont mean that in an insulting way, i mean its an intentional joke, but that one will never be one of my favorites.

For me one of the best older Batman Movies is " Batman Forever ", the Movie is just crazy and over the top enough but not as comedy like, like Batman and Robin. It wasnt as weirdly dark or perverted as the Tim Burton Movies and had just the right amount of fun in it, even my father had the same opinion as me, that this was the best of the older bunch.

And for newer Movies, i liked " Batman v Superman - Dawn of Justice " and no, im not a Troll, i thought the Movie was fantastic, great action scenes, great emotional scenes and cool over the top action, specially the " vs fight ". As for animated Movies, i have only watched the older 3 Movies based on " Batman - the animated Series " so far and the best one for me was Batman and Mr Freeze - Subzero. Instead of being cheesy and threat an obvious plot twist as a mystery, this Movie was just fun and it personally touched my feelings more, than the other two Movies.

But if i have to choose my favorite one, it would be Batman v Superman. If it has to be a Batman alone film, i would probably choose Batman Forever, since Subzero is a bit to short for a great movie, since its just a different adaptation of Batman and Robin, like an extra.

The Dark Knight, hands down. The entire Nolan trilogy is my favorite incarnation so far. Mask of the Phantasm was pretty good. Batman with Jack Nicholson was great as well. The other films with Poison Ivy, Riddler, and Penguin are just weird, I can’t take them seriously.

For a live action Batman movie , I'd go with Batman Returns or The Dark Knight. I always found Returns a lot more interesting than 89 for some reason. And the soundtrack too, easily one of Danny Elfman's best soundtracks ever. Look up the OST for the cemetery scene and the entirety of the finale, you'll thank me later.

For animated Batman movies I always liked Batman Beyond: The Return of Joker. That flashback scene alone makes it worth the price of admission. Mask of Phantasm is really good if a bit too short.

The Dark Knight , Mostly because the Joker was basically perfect in this movie. I never really liked Tim Burton's Batman that much because I honestly thought it was kind of dumb, and they did a pretty poor job characterizing Batman in the film in my opinion.

I agree! That whole movie was a horrible joke. We had the worst Poison Ivy the worst Mr. Freeze and even the worst Batman in George Clooney ( honestly I'm amazed that they didn't do a second version of it and tried to make it better)

But, honestly I think the best Batman movie IMHO is The dark night, I just love the way Heath ledger portrayed the Jokes.

Batman 89 and Dark Knight are my favorite. My favorite incarnation of the bat is The Animated Series.

I also like Batman Forever over Returns. Batman Begins is meh. I've yet to see Dark Knight Rises.

To take ideas from the Emmy winning Heart Of Ice and turn it into... that is a terrible shame.

Ok live action is tough Choice because for me Tim Burton’s Batman movie and The Dark Knight were both amazing. I loved Jack Nicholas as the Joker and I can still quote his lines off the top of my head to this day.

As far as animated Batman movies go Under the Red Hood is my personal favorite.

When it comes to live action Batman, I’m gonna go with Batman (Tim Burton’s), Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

When it comes to animated Batman, I’m gonna go with Batman : Mask Of The Phantasm.
