Having Spike call Twilight "Mommy" or "Mom" would be an insult to his character, he is not needy.

I would contend he does have his needier side - the events in "Owl's Well that End's Well" seem to indicate that, along with "Equestria Games" where he went out of his way to prove his worth after suffering from low self-esteem. Then there's "Spike at Your Service" where instead of feeling the need for recognition and love, he felt he needed to prove something was positive about his entire species.

I think it is fine if a character is needy as long as they are courageous and self-motivated at the same time - Spike is all of those things, as seen during the events of "Dragon Quest", "The Crystal Empire", and "Gauntlet of Fire", to name a few. It's why he's such a great, well-rounded character.

As for him not calling Twilight "mommy" in "Winter Wrap-Up", I'm not sure why doing the opposite would have made him seem needy. How does having a teenage mom make a kid needy? (Presuming Twilight is still a teenager, which I don't think she is anyway) Besides, that particular episode (along with many of the other S1 episodes) were early-written scripts, and in an interview with Cathy Weseluck she admitted they decided to change Spike from being a little boy character to someone who was more mature and less of the typical "girls are icky" male-centric foil for Twilight. That quote certainly fits in with his younger, brattier persona, and while he's never called Twilight his mother, he's never said she wasn't his mom since that one time, either.

Spike is no baby

Now that I agree with wholeheartedly! And the show has followed suit by dropping the "baby dragon" moniker completely in all the later seasons. In fact, I can't remember the last time any of the characters have referred to him as a baby anymore. It doesn't really fit with his personality and motivations.

And its clear that he see's this dragon as a true patriarchal figure, as he is willing to give up his Pony culture to be a "real" dragon.

I wouldn't say it's clear until the episode actually airs. We don't know if he's all gung-ho over going off with this dragon yet, or if he's against it but some of his friends think it would be best for him simply because it's his "dad". The lack of a father-figure for Spike probably has hurt him a bit, though. He probably substituted Shining Armor and maybe even Night Light into that role while he lived in Canterlot, and now there's Big Mac. Though Big Mac seems more like a brother to him than Shining at times, let alone a father figure.

Sometimes, I see myself as a sort of father figure. But I think being a big brother helping him with the routine around the castle and

Head fanon aside, I know Spike is a strong, maturing guy. Some interesting changes will be on the horizon for him and I'm excited to see how they'll play out.

Agreed. Considering the big events they seemingly have planned for this episode and his other episode this season, S9 could bring even more dramatic changes and possibilities for growth.

Y'think Ember gave Spike's dad the info of where his son is located? I really hope so! It would be an awesome chance for Ember to appear!

That would be cool!!

I don't think this dragon is going to be Spikes Father that feels too GOTG2 "he was your father but not your daddy". This is an American Children's show, and making him spikes real father and forcing him to choose between his real family and the ponies is something too adult an an American Children's show. we are probably gong to find out how Celestia got his egg, but not what happen to his family, we still don't know what happen to the apple parents and this is probably the same thing.

Nah, too smart. The writers are too lazy(or maybe stupid) when it comes to Spike episodes. If they don't answer his origins, the writer deserves to be trolled into oblivion(4chan annihilation style)

He'd be better off going with this dragon. He is a dragon after all. He should be with his own kind. I'm sorry, but once he grows up it's going to be beyond awkward.

Big Jim confirmed that Dragons are no longer solitary creatures(well a select few are, that red and green dragon are basically hobos)

Dragons have a community now and a nation. Plus he would actually get a chance to find a real mate when he grows older, not some silly whittle crush.(Sparity is creepy)

Amd before any of you ask if I think blood is all that matters...not really. For instance, many DBZ fans argue(and I agree) that Piccolo would have been a far better father to Gohan than Goku. Unlike Chi Chi(who many rightfully hate) and pushover Goku, Piccolo helped him become stronger, a survivalist and turned him into a kid who despite being only 5 years old managed to hold his own against Frieza and at age 10, killed Cell. Had he stayed on course he would have been the most powerful being on the planet or in the universe. Goku's power would have been dwarfed, like comparing a field mouse to a Bengal Tiger.

Twilight has been good, but she could never give him what he NEEDS.

I mean what? Is he suppose to be an assistant for the rest of his life?  He would crush the pens with a meer touch of the tip of his gigantic claws.

Obviously, he should keep his pony friends and all friends he makes but he's not a pony, he's a dragon(no this is not the same as comparing skin collar, first of all humans are humans, just different skin and culture, species is far different Youtuber Brain Dump explains this in his Zootopia review, see that to understand my point, it's not like Dr. Seuss's The Sneaches, now that is a good anti-racist book)

I agree with Lauren Faust on this Celestia is his adopted mom(Twilight is at the very best, an older sister) "Your not my mommy" (I'm sure he meant Celestia) another reason why IDW comics suck.(no I ain't taking it back)

I want to say this again so people know I'm not trying to say he should forget them.

He should keep his friends, but make new ones in the Dragonlands and join his people, so he can have a good adult life.

He's not a pony, he's dragon.

When will you accept that?

"You wouldn't marry a Panther would you?"

"Mowgli in the Jungle Book, kept his animal friends but went back to his people"

Spike's not going to leave his friends.  And mainly two reasons why : 1. Twilight and 2. Rarity.  True we may not have screenshots or wip for this episode yet, but I can almost guarantee like with the upcoming "Molt Down", they will play a major factor. And why you may ask? When out of all the Spike Episodes, have they not in some form or capacity?

Really? Just THEM? He's got more friends than that!

3. Starlight. 4. Pinkie. 5. AJ. 6. Rainbow. 7. Flutters. 8. Big Mac. 9. CMCs. I can go on! I mean I do agree with you. He wouldn't stay in the Dragon Lands with his family for more than just a few days tops! Still though... he's got more friends those two. Think he'd be happy without his O&O buddies? :P

Twilight: Don't leave I need free labor.

Rarity: Don't go, I need a sucker for my store and too con you off any jewels you get.

(Yeah, nice save kid,:okiedokieloki: )

Two friends are enough, then He's pitiful then I thought.

Twilight: I need to keep this one little privilege, please don't leave!

Twilight, just stop, you have Starlight and your pet owl to help you, just let Spike be with his own kind.

(The only use for Rarity is if it's Spike realizing, "Wow, the more I think about it, she's waasaaaay to old for me")

No, Sparity is still creepy(and so are the shippers, have you seen the drawings?

Two ponies are no reason to not leave and join your own people. Two isn't enough, it's far from it.

Spike, sooner, or latter, it will be time to come home.

A dragon must have ability to rely on themselves when needed, and must eventually horde

Spoiler

(in order to keep the disease "Greed Induced Growth" at bay so not to lose its mind)

And before you say

"But Twilight said he's as much apart of his family as anypony."

1. That's speciesist

2. But he's NOT a pony.

and another thing(aside from Twilight and Celestia(his adopted mom) he will outlive all his friends.

Dragons live hundreds to thousands of years! Think about that for just a second. He is only 10 years old(maybe older now) but the point remains, his best years are still to come, where as the Mane 6, sorry, but their best years will soon be behind them before they become old and die(sorry everything dies, some sooner then others)

And Rarity had NO right to try and talk him out of leaving(Twilight does, and Celestia does) but not her. If she did care for him, she would encourage him to go so he can finally have a parent. Not that some snobby mare like her could understand.

hopefully this dragon points out and shames him for having a creepy crush on Rarity(Really son? REALLY!?) which would be awesomesause!

What the heck is he supposed to do when he becomes a GIANT?! And can crush a pony with his pinkie claw?!

Twilight has been a good sister figure, but I repeat and until you give a detailed, good explanation about why he should stay after that, then I'm sorry, he needs to GO!

And if it's the same bs lines from Dragon Quest, I hope the writer gets trolled into oblivion(4Chan style)

"Birds of a feather must flock together"

The best ending I can see is a tearful goodbye, like that fan animation about Twilight(being an actual good pony and letting Spike return to his people) he's not going to fit in the castle once he grows to Torch's size.

There, I think I made my point.

Two privileged friends are not enough. Those two could never understand what it's like to not have parents.

Check and Mate!

If anyone thinks Spike is going to leave Ponyville to live in the Dragonlands they are fooling themselves.

Yeah, because there is no such thing as a good Spike episode huh? And obviously trolling writers for not catering the show to every whim or idea typed on keyboards by some desperate fans is the correct way to go.

If anything this episode is going to answer a lot of questions, and there is a fair chance the fandom is going to complain about most of them. Because you know... headcanons.

Keep feeling yourself this. It doesn't change ge the fact I'm right.

Here let me give you the ending

"Spike cries in Twilights arms nothing changes, makes the same bs "your my family" crap not changing anything or answering his origins because the writer is lazy and deserves all the hate.

Twilight gets the glory and keeps enjoying her privileged life with her servant,

The End.

there I just saved you a Saturday morning.

Now you can sleep in

Hey it doesn't matter to me either way! Spike meets his family finally, questions get answered, that's all the confirmed headcanon I need! :D It's like I always say, brah, better to have something than nothing!

I was in a bit of a hurry this morning. But my point is (as much of an important role as they will play), my gut feeling is it will come down to Rarity and Twilight, and if not more so, Rarity (just to throw the Sparity shippers a bone from whoever the main writer of this episode is)

Molt Down already has plenty of Sparity.

I'm feeling that it's gonna come down to Twilight and Starlight this time, the two ponies he lives with. Twilight, because of obvious reasons, and Starlight to keep Twilight sane after Spike's departure, but also there to remind him who his true family is! It would be really nice if she were there instead of Rarity this time. Or maybe even all the Mane Seven, better yet! ;) Regardless, Sparity is overstaying it's welcome. I wanna see more of Spike's relationships with his other friends like Starlight and the Remain Four!

SpikeGlimmer could work. Maybe if that is the case, have it hint at a pairing episode the 9th season

Yep, even though this episode is a long way off, i can pretty much predict how this episode will end.

Spoiler

Spike turning his "father" way, saying that, if it means leaving his friends, he doesn't want to be a "real" dragon.

Well that was useless, just go watch that crap episode Dragon Quest again and you won't miss a thing. There I saved you a morning.

If this is the way it is, all I can say is pathetic.

And before you say "but he's her family"

Family? You know, if you say it enough times, it begins to sound and mean...nothing.

Family is blood, you only get one. It disgusts me to those who say family are friends, it's pathetic, gross, insulting and like

And if Rarity is a main character in this episode, the writer can get trolled into oblivion.

I care nothing for that "Snob, that stupid, stuck up, toffee nosed, half witted, upperclass pile of....puss."

Sparity fans are not just gross, they are creepy, and borderline pedo.

That has to be the most predictable, worthless, horrible, snobbish, mean spirited, hack written episode ever if it goes down the way you described.

Unless Twilight says "I won't let you take him, because he's my little brother!" Then she is a snob.

Family is a cheap term! APPLEJACK CALLS HER FRIENDS FAMILY TOO.

So again, it's a worthless term unless you really mean it.

Heck is like Starlight to be the one, just NO Lamity.

No Sparity and NO Rarity.

(My thoughts on Snobity)

What? I don't have to like all the characters?
