Since she knows alot about potions and experiences from her youth, she is able to handle them without a problem.

I'm pretty sure that the Elements of Harmony having been returned to the Tree of Harmony made the Forest safer than it was without the Elements.

Celestia even said it at one point how "Even without the elements, The Tree will contain a power that contains all that grows here.

Heck, since the Elements being returned by end of S4 Premiere, the path to the Royal Sister old castle has become relatively safe again as several S4 episodes had them visiting the Castle like it was a stroll down the road.

Any forest can be scary if you are unfamiliar with what's in it. Once you know what things and places to avoid, or how to make them avoid you, it becomes a matter of scavenging and gathering materials and resources. And since the town is familiar with her now, she probably even makes a little money by providing services or at least having an exchange of favors.

Given her experience as a potion maker, knowing the general layout of the Everfree Forest, being serious amongst other things, Zecora is more than capable of holding her own against whatever may lurk in the forest.

Somebody who knows what they're doing can move carefully around predators without them even noticing. The wildlife probably leaves her alone.

Things to mask scent or even frighten away certain creatures.

I leave a lumberjack axe on my porch. Haven't had a timberwolf problem since.
