"B-but..." Tatterhoof stuttered with his shoulders slumped.

Jade rolled back and caught the ring with her hind hooves. She discarded the cane to the side and used the built up pressure to pounce back toward Tatterhoof.

She span, the green aura moving from her wings to just one leg. The leg she swept around to meet Tatterhoof on the jaw. Not enough to kill him, but it would really hurt.

With his cane gone, Tatterhoof was missing a significant amount of his energy. Still, he was faster and more durable than a regular pony. He brought a hoof up to block Jade's attack and managed to defend his jaw, but her strike still had enough force to send him careening back off the ring, slamming shoulder first into the concrete divider between the field and the audience. As he connected with the wall, there was a massive explosion of concrete and dust.

She wiped her brow and looked up at the dust cloud.

The dust settled and the earth pony was inside a deep crater in the wall. He stepped out, his leg clearly broken from where he blocked the strike. His jacket was tattered and ripped. "Man that hurt... I didn't think anyone could throw punches that hardcore besides..." he let out a pained groan and landed facedown in the grass.

Topaz finished a ten count, but it was clear he wasn't going to get up. "Nine and ten! The winner by ring out is Jade! That means team Lotus will advance to the next round!" She announced followed by an overwhelming roar of boos. Topaz had to shield herself as a few pieces of trash was thrown at her. "I-I'm sorry! It's not my fault!" She said, but she was using the microphone to shield herself, so it wasn't picked up.

 

The scoreboard updated.

Winner: Jade - 2 points

Technique: Jade - 1 point

Creativity: Tatterhoof - 1 point

Entertainment: Jade - 1 point

Team Lotus: 15 points

Tatterhoof: 10 points

Winner: Lotus!

The scoreboard disappeared in a cloud of confetti.

 

The green-suited pony next to rail was using a handkerchief to cover his mouth as if he was about to gag. "I-if I had actually bet money on that team, I'd be eating my shirt right now."

Rail stood up from his seat, still carrying a drink and spoke to the gambler before leaving the private booth. "Your lies don't amuse me. I expect you gone in the morning."

Draco used his wind to shield topaz from the flying trash as he had rested enough. "Now that's just plain rude," Draco stated with a grin on his muzzle. "She's merely oing her job," Draco stated with a chuckle. He looked to Dai with a charming smile on his muzzle.

Jade was too exhausted to care about the bad reception she received. She fought hard and she won, and that was what mattered.

She limped over to Tatterhoof and bowed her head. "Thank you for the bout, I haven't been pushed that far in a long time. I hope you're not too injured."

She shuffled back toward her own team, shielding herself with her wings from any oncoming trash. She could only wonder why this audience was so hostile.

Dynamo watched as Jade had endured the electric shocks from Tatterhoof's magical energy cane. Just as he had thought, it seemed that Tatterhoof lost all of his advantage when his cane was discarded. As Jade had landed the final, decisive strike, Tatterhoof was sent out of the ring and into the wall. Dynamo winced slightly as he knew that had to be painful. He sat with baited breath as he waited to see if Tatterhoof would get back up. 'Just stay down. That had to be it. There's no way he could get back up from something like that.' He was honestly surprised to see Tatterhoof made his way back, but he looked pretty injured. Both Jade and Tatterhoof seemed to be exhausted, but he knew there would be one fighter left standing. His question was soon answered as he saw Tatterhoof had fallen to the ground. As Topaz counted to ten, he smiled as he knew that they had won their match. Even if he was tired, he still jumped to his hooves and cheered. "She did it! We won!" He winced from the pain, but he didn't care. He looked to Ray and gave him a sad smile, but still bowed to his opponent in respect for a good fight. 

The blue unicorn turned to see the crowd was throwing trash at their team and Topaz. He raised an eyebrow as he couldn't understand the reasoning for the crowd to have an attitude. He put that worry aside as Jade had made her way back to the team. He walked up to her and gave her a smile. That was a great fight, Jade! You did an awesome job out there. Those fighting techniques were something else, in my opinion. I was even surprised how you had green flames around your hooves." He says as he soon sighs in knowing that they had won. Even though they won, he still felt bad that he had lost his match. 'Hopefully, I can get some help to improve in my fighting.' He thought as he would try to talk to Tricis and the others later.

Tatterhoof stood up moments later and dusted himself off. He limped to the rest of his team. The Muscle pony had been taken to an infirmary, so only Ray and Dai remained. Ray waved to Dynamo and Dai snarled at Draco as they left. Seemed she didn't like him giving Topaz attention, or perhaps she was just upset that they lost.

The booing from the crowd continued as Jade returned to her team, but then, after a few seconds, it suddenly stopped. The trash stopped being thrown and even the rowdiest fans stopped booing. At first they didn't know why, but then they felt a presence in the stadium.

Something was looking at them. Something huge. Their heartrate started picking up. The five of them were all spiritually aware enough to pick up on something that the others in the audience could not. Something dark was looming over them. Something that was many times more powerful than the team they just defeated. Those of them who were particularly intuned with the supernatural would break into a cold sweat.

"Hey, it's team Rokata!" one audience member said. 

Sure enough, up in the stands behind the audience, directly across from team Lotus, there they were. They saw the three fighters who had absolutely decimated the road warriors, Nin the yellow unicorn, Selene the strange psychic, and Onyx, the massive minotaur standing in the back. There was also Rokata himself. That large stallion that Jade had seen earlier, green with odd purple swirling tattoos across his body. Next to him, was the fifth member none of them had seen before, a small grey earth pony with long scraggly hair. He was even smaller than Selene in height.

"What are they doing here? They aren't supposed to fight today." One audience member said, though most of the crowd was silent.

Dynamo's ears perked as he could hear the audience had begun to grow quiet. He was thankful that was over, but he soon thought he felt a presence. Almost like someone was watching him, or more importantly, himself and the rest of the team. "Do you guys sense that energy?" He asks everyone on the team as his heart rate began to lightly quicken. A random audience member addressed Team Rokata, causing Dynamo to look up across from him in the stands. Sure enough, it was the three ponies he watched fighting the other day."So that's all of team Rokata, huh? What's going on here? Are they here to check out the competition?" However, along with them were two others he didn't recognize. The green stallion with purple swirling tattoos and a small grey earth pony with scraggly hair. He turned to the other members of the team with a look of confusion upon his muzzle. "Hey, you guys? Who are those two ponies standing next to the other three? I don't recall seeing them in their first match yesterday." Just the pressure of the air from Team Rokata made Dynamo feel as if he'd be crushed by the force. He felt a bead of sweat trickle down his forehead, but tried to remain calm.

Jade limped back and flopped on her haunches. She looked up at Dyanmo. "Thank you," she managed to whisper. With the adrenaline leaving her system, her muscles and nerves began screaming bloody murder and she could barely keep herself upright.

She felt a shiver in her body. She wasn't sure why; she'd won, so why did she feel unnerved?

She glanced up to the stands. She recognised them as the fighters she'd watched the day before who had decimated that other team. She saw the large stallion, and despite her gasping for air and sweating, she narrowed her eyes at him. She knew something was off about him.

Frostflame had been silent the entire time, admiring his team's fighting style... maybe he'd live after all. Though just as he had gotten hopeful, he heard something... "Team Rokata". He got up from his seat and walked by his allies, and sure enough. Frostflame had some quick flash backs, he had seen Team Rokata before. Frostflame put his hoof on his hilt, but then slowly moved it away. He stood there silently ignoring Dynamo's questions, staring down Team Rokata.

"He's pointing at Lotus!"

"Just can't wait to kill them, can he?"

He pointed to himself with a smirk on his face so deep that Jade could see it from across the stadium. ...and me. A fight to the death soon enough, Jade.

Team Rokata turned around and exited through the doors behind them, disappearing as suddenly as they arrived. The strange, overpowering feeling in the air quickly went away, as if it was caused only by them being present.

"Well, now, I hope you enjoyed that guest appearance from the resident badasses of the tournament," Topaz said, stepping away from Draco now that she no longer needed his protection. "But now we'll have to ask for Team Lotus to leave the ring and get some much-needed rest, the next round between team Lockdown and Team Griffonstone is about to start!"

Dynamo noticed the green stallion pointing a hoof at Jade. He looked to the two of them and wondered what kind of connection the two of them shared. His ears perked as he tried to listen to what the green stallion was talking about. He shivered slightly from the smirk the green stallion had on his face. That smirk was the stuff of nightmares. Once Team Rokata made their leave, the overpowered feeling had suddenly vanished. Dynamo let out a breath he didn't know that he was holding. He never felt a presence like that in his life. The tension from the pony they encountered the other day paled in comparison to this team. "So, we might fight this team in the future? Sounds like this tournament is going to be crazy, yet pretty interesting." From the team they had just fought, he knew that was an understatement. Hearing the announcement of the next fight was their cue to go.

Sounds to me like he woke up on the wrong side of the bed."

Draco walked over to Dai and said "Those guys just gave me the creeps," Draco stated with a chuckle. "But why are you angry at me?" Draco asked as he started to walk with Dai out of the arena.

Frostflame moved away from the ring once everything was finished, walking away from his team and leaving the area. He wanted to spend some time alone, but knew he wouldn't have long because of his performance out there. He moved past the crowds, and walked back towards the hotel lobby.

She couldn't think of what happened when they met; she just wanted to go to her room and rest.

Dynamo could hear the mutter from Jade and nods. "You're welcome and it's no worries." He walked slowly, but cautiously. He was tired, but knew he didn't want to make Jade or himself trip. He glanced at his captain as she explained about team Rokata. 'I wonder if that was when we met that Canteen guy in our hotel room. Sounds like we're both the team favorite and the most targeted.' He decided not to ask Jade as he could see the tired look upon her face. He decided to ask later as the team exited the stadium. He wanted to rest, but he knew he had to make it a priority to talk to Tricis at some point.

Rose groaned as she woke up due to the powers subsiding and stood up on her shaky legs. She stumbled over to her bottle still undamaged and tucked it into her wing. Then she headed to the room. Once she got into the room swaying from barely getting any magic back, she went to her bed and fell on it to sleep some more.

The members of Team Lotus returned to their hotel room. Rose had to be placed in bed and Snow Frostflame was now feeling even stranger than before after their encounter with Team Rokata, but they still all reached the room without incident. 

Shining Armor wasn't expected to return to their room. He had his own private room to stay in where he could watch the fights and do business, but before the four of them could even turn on the TV to check the progress of the tournament, the prince came barging through the door.

"I have information about the next team you'll be fighting!" He said hurriedly. with a pile of scrolls floating next to him/

As they reached their hotel room, Dynamo pushed the door open and helped lead their captain into the room. He placed Jade into a sitting position on the bed, before making his way over to the chair. The blue unicorn seemed to have melted into the chair as he didn't feel like getting up. "I think I might just fall asleep in the chair." He muttered to himself as he recalled falling his chair multiple times back at home. He never meant to do that, but the chair was so comfy to sit and fall asleep in. He looked up to see Shining Armor had returned to their room as well. Once everyone was in the hotel room, Shining had barged through the door levitating a pile of scrolls. He raised an eyebrow as he was somewhat surprised they got their next team to fight. "We got our next team all set up? I'm surprised it's that soon. Wouldn't they usually wait to announce them after every team had fought?" He asked Shining as he tried to sit up in the chair. "What's the team name, Shining Armor? Do you know what the team specializes in?"

Jade sighed with relief as she sat on the bed, the soft fabric feeling like heaven on her aching hooves. "Thank you," she muttered, still struggling to stay sat up with how little energy she had left.

Her ear flicked up and she looked to see Shining Armour barge through the door and bark something about the next team.

"This couldn't have waited until we've rested?" she growled crabbily. Perhaps she picked up more from Tricis than she thought.

Frostflame turned around drawing his sword, only realizing it was the prince, so he sheaths it. Frostflame felt even weirder, and put his hoof on his head. He didn't feel sick, but he knew something wasn't right, though he shrugged it off. "Let's hear it then, Prince" he said as he walked a bit closer.

"That's just the thing," Shining Armor said, "You're fighting again tomorrow. There are two more matches today, Team Tsunami versus the Shadow beasts, and Team Crimos versus team Cleave, but the team you're up against tomorrow already won their round in the time it took you to get back to the hotel room! We don't have a lot of time before you fight again tomorrow afternoon, but we lucked out on one thing. The next team you'll be fighting was very easy for me to research."

He placed the scrolls down on the coffee table in the center of the couches. "Team Lockdown is your next opponent, and their team is made up entirely of criminals serving a life sentence or worse. If they win this tournament, they're set free! But that's not the worst part. This is a rough bunch. I had contacts from Canterlot pull all their files and I had to warn you as soon as I could."
