Why does the show have to end?

They ran out of ideas or wrote themselves into a corner. Also, for me, its better they end she show now than continue running on fumes making the show gradually worse until everybody loses interest.

Besides, with G5 there will be brand new toy designs to sell to everyone who has already bought the G4 toys.

Nothing lasts forever. Hasbro probably doesn't want the show to overstay its welcome and get stale, as plenty of other shows have. In that way, it's doing the show justice.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

I prefer it to end like this than keep it with life support until it doesn't make sense. Like the Simpsons.

At least I will remember it fondly and I will still create stuff for it like stories and art and theories, all that good stuff.

Better to go off on a high note than let the show continue to chug on fumes with people who are less and less passionate about the project. Regardless of how people may feel about later seasons I still consider MLP to be an excellent show for children, and even at its 'worst' I have never watched an episode I have outright disliked. Though if it kept on going it could take a significant drop in quality - just look at what people have said about the Simpsons and Family Guy - I wouldn't want that to be the middling and lukewarm fate for the show

As many people have said, keeping the show going will just make it get worse with each episode, and the makers of the show will lose motivation. I would like it to keep going, though, if somehow that wouldn’t happen. I know it’s not really possible but I have enjoyed the show a lot, but all things must come to an end.

Already said, but all good things must come to an end. This show’s been airing for nine years, and it’s better to end it when it’s going strong (and know it has an end) than continue, lose its magic touch, and be abruptly canceled.

The MLP franchise is likely going to see an indefinite run, and for that to happen, each passing generation is going to need to have a definite run. Oh yes, and the Season 10 comic, need I even remind you? :maud:

As heartbreaking as it is, ending it as much of a high note as possible is the best it can do, not to mention FIM reached milestones most shows can only dream about. Plus, despite still having quality, I’ve noticed it has gotten signs it was heading the same way of once beloved animated shows.

Speaking of, for just about every season, bronies have had something to complain about. For season 3, it was Twilight becoming an Alicorn

That was a high point for me! I was quite literally on the edge of my seat! God, I loved it!

Exactly

And like I always say, any idea that was wasted on the show or not fully developed on the show can be expanded upon in fan works. Heck in many of the Episode's individual YMMV pages, there's a trope called Fanfic lists several possible ideas in a given fanfic.

I feel the flash thing is a non-issue. Toonboom, while more expensive, was already bought in for the movie, so shifting to that new style would not have broken much (I doubt they could afford to invest as heavily in the art style as they did for the movie, and yes, the flash "style" has much to do with the look and feel of Pony, but I would much rather see the new style with G4 ponies (and we might get to see the races created for the movie again!) than see it end.

I also disagree that the show was exclusively, or even should have been exclusively "the mane 6 give and receive friendship lessons" too; the CMC had lead billing for some shows, the major background characters (apples, cakes, princesses etc) all had their own continuities, and yes, as the show moved on, we got new characters (starlight as a lesser foreground (cmc like) rather than major foreground character was a shock, the school (and young six) took the show in an interesting direction, and much, much more - the world of G4 equestria got bigger to accomodate an ever growing lore and back history, and while that restricted the writers in many ways, it gave Pony an increasing depth that will be hard to replicate (and if you shoehorn it into the new generation, why have one?)

Essentially, I think Hasbro's choice to end the show here and start over with G5 is an ill-supported decision, but their decision to make. That doesn't mean I support it, and I will certainly not try to come up with reasons why it was the "best" choice, but I can't believe the community, the fan works, or even the comics will end just because G4 has; this is not a "hard" end, but it is a major change in how the world of G4 Equestria works.

Continuity can be a burden as much as a boon. Think back to how fresh Equestia seemed to begin with - they made the weather! Their rulers moved the sun and moon! The history of the tribes, the various non-pony races, everything to do with cutie marks... so much that only a young continuity could introduce without raising questions.

I want that back. I want G5. And I certainly don't want more FIM where no-one ever grows up, especially at the quality of this last season.

I think there are still plenty of stories the show could tell.

And since the main purpose of the show is to sell toys, couldn't Hasbro keep it running for a few more seasons?

If it ran any longer people would lose interest. It’s better where it’s at cause if the show was super drawn out it would outlive a lot of people.

For the love of my Great Aunt’s tea cozy don’t post finale stuff in this forum.

This is a good place to end the show.

When will the secret spoiler forum outlive it's usefulness?

Won't, unless we finally get spoiler tags working properly on the site :)

Spoiler tags work just fine.

SO the finale isn't going to be open for free discussion at some point tihs week?

In the spoiler forum which isn't exactly secret. Two weeks from now I will open the floodgates since there is a two week rule on spoilers in general and at that time I will be moving all topics in that forum out into FiM Show Discussion.

Let it end while the show is good and not what become of some other shows. The show ended with a great season(one of the best seasons in the show), who knows maybe if the series would have gone a few more seasons it maybe wouldn't have been pretty considering what season 8 was(it was a good season, but definitely my least favorite of the show).

I envy your ability to appreciate this season. I would have loved a strong end...
