The username I had for starters was - SeriousNinjaBrony - because for some reason I went through a phase where I had to have a different account name for EVERYTHING. So eventually I ran out, and just strung my favourite word, favourite orient and favourite show together and BOOM. 

 

(If you're wondering where I got Agent505 from, there was a game for the original Xbox called "Arctic thunder." The box art character is called Agent5, so...yeah )

Uhm. Let me try to remember. Way back (about 1995), I discovered the internet. And I discovered that the in thing was to have 'handles' rather than use your real name there. I used to play a lot of RPGs like D&D before then, and I was a member of a English Civil War re-enactment group in Ontario, so I was used to the idea of having a character name. Using this internet thing, I ran into a new fandom that was based around these cartoons and comics that I got a kick out of, like Disney's Robin Hood and such. They called themselves 'furries'. So I cast about looking for an appropriate name to use, and decided to create a character to be my internet avatar. And I was going to make an anthro character, to fit in with the new group of friends I was becoming acquainted with.

 

My family history is strongly Scottish, and I'm interested in history and myths and the like, and I knew of a semi-historical figure that if someone squinted hard enough they could see the name being for an anthropomorphic animal. St. Faolan (Fillan, Filan, Phillan, or Fáelán) was a Scottish saint who has a wolf pull a plow or a cart or something depending on which version you get a hold of. His name is derived from old Irish 'faol' which means wolf, and 'an' after it means it's a dimunitive, so Faolan means 'little wolf'. You get the feeling his name came after the folklore, don't you?

 

With all the different official spellings, I manage to muck it up the first time typing it, and 'Fhaolan, the Celtic Wolfie' became the rather silly and sometimes melodramatic character I used when I decided to dive deep into the internet. I even used to type in accent back then. Exaggerating my real accent massively to the point of incoherence.

 

I've just never really let go of that character, even though nearly twenty years have passed.

 

The pony-thing picture next to this post isn't Fhaolan. It's just something I drew up recently on a whim, and then used as a model to learn a bit about how GIMP works. My mum and my uncle are artists, not me.

I started calling my wife "Honey bunny", in referece to Pulp Fiction and over the course of time it became Honey bun. So to retaliate, she started calling me Cinnamon bun, since my skin is darker. Then I thought it would make a good Pony name. I happen to love Cinnabons a lot too, but that's a story for another thread
