My main hope is that whatever this ends up being keeps the same voice cast if this movie is a pilot for a new series like

Generation 5's A New Generation was.

Oh my~!  The news!

Well we don't know anything beyond an announcement, and one article is not enough to confirm anything just yet. But it sure is interesting. Amazon is making a new live action Masters Of The Universe movie, and now MLP. What's next; The Legend of Zelda? Voltron? Thundercats? 

Still, the speculation is interesting...

• If Amazon is going full retro-revival, then G1 lends itself to live action the best. You can have CGI ponies and actual humans for star power.
• If they were smart, they'd know how popular G4 was make something based on that.
• If this news article is implying something (or if the film makers get their wires crossed), they might make a movie based on G5. Either because they are confusing G4's popularity with G5, or because the makers of G5 are working with Amazon directly somehow. I doubt it, but anything is possible.
• Or, against all odds, they could decide to do the daring thing and go completely original. New generation, new adventures, no narrative connection to any previous generations; and any ponies with any similar names and/or designs would be complete coincidence.

If they do the last one, and it becomes popular, Hasbro might try to make it the basis for their next MLP TV show or something. I personally doubt it; seems like a lot to invest in for a TV show, and animation might be easier.

Either way, we'll have to wait and see.

As I've said to a fair number of people over on Equestria Daily, it's best to take all of this with a grain of salt. It's best to wait until Hasbro says something about this as at the end of the day, what they say matters more than anything else regarding this.

This is true. Could easily be a scrapped project by now like with the Gen 6 thing that got leaked last year.

Not 100% sure it was but there's been no other leaks on it since, and it looked very "proof on concept" like. So maybe it would be more accurate to say it never/hasn't went into full production instead of being scrapped.

Assuming this is real, my hope with this is that they make animated content alongside this. Otherwise, it's simply eating up the resources that could be used to make what I'd prefer to watch. If both happen, then I have no issues with this. I will say though, I personally hope it succeeds just enough to do fine (and avoid financial disaster for the brand), but not enough to encourage more...

Well, Camp Cutie Mark might be scrapped. Something is being developed for MLP G6 in 2027, we just don't know yet what it will be.

Be afraid. Be very afraid. It’s sad that what should be a matter for excitement only brings dread of the inevitable disappointment. Why not make it an animated movie in the same style as the 2010 My Little Pony: The Movie? It seems Hasbro is dead-set against doing what the fans clearly want, which is to make another G4 movie in the classic style. Hasbro gave Equestria Girls far more attention and promotion than MLP, and for all the wrong reasons. So if they’re going to go off the rails again doing everything except what the fans want, I’m not optimistic. I fear another fiasco like the live action Barbie movie about to rear its ugly head. Another great franchise bites the dust.

I think you meant to refer to the 2017 MLP movie.
