Boat Loads of Moderators

But this takes time and destracts mods from their actual duties. We should be able to trust the mods to handle themselves properly, and shouldn't be needed to be moderated themselves. When a mod moderates mod(s), that takes a mod from moderating the forums, their actual job.

I'm fairly sure that we do, that's just a double check system ;)

Unfortunately, we are only human. There's a few mods who are new to the actual job, so the first few weeks could be a little rocky. Hopefully not too much, of course, but even moderators need some checking up now and then. Besides, it's better for one of us to point out our mistakes so we can help one another learn from the other's mistakes and such. :)

To be honest, I kind of thought it was overkill at first, but there have been times when I talk to feld0 or other mods and they just seem to be on an overload.

To be honest, you should only be scared if you know you are going to brake the rules. The new mod count really does not change much as even before these new mods were added, the staff always had there eye on everything,

While I understand how people can think this is overkill, and to be honest to a degree I can agree, but overall I did think a bit more staff was needed, maybe not 10 more mods, but lets be honest here, does the number of mods really effect our experience here?

We have never had a rouge staff member, I doubt its gonna happen now, so just enjoy the forums like we have always enjoyed the forums.

I think the concern was more along the lines of more mods = more people with authority to delete posts, which then more people with authority to delete posts = more differing individual opinions of what's a questionable post of not. Not all mods think alike and what may seem questionable to one may not seem questionable to another. That's where the aversion to proactive moderation came into play. You may think your post is harmless and unquestionable and it goes unreported for a while because no one else has a problem with it, but then comes along a mod who reads it wrong and deletes it because they deemed it questionable and they have the power to delete it. That's when the jimmies of the general populace get rustled.

Once I was reassured deletions were going to be a collective effort and not based on an individual's mod's opinion of what's questionable or not, that's when I called my dogs off and accepted the increased staff.

Here's an example for the lolz and to bolster my point above:

Doctor XFizzle: Trixie is a pony of nocturnal persuasion and negotiable affection

*Devin reads it* Devin: Haha, right on Doc!

*Tom the Diamond reads it* Tom: D: Why Fizzle, why? *deletes Doctor's post*

I can understand where you are coming from, but remember another thing, if you feel that a post was wrongfully deleted you can always talk to feld0 about it, yes some mods are more strict then others, and I feel your concern xfizzle, I am sure though that everything will turn out alright, feld0 picked these guys for a reason ^_^

... Seems like a bunch of things happened in my absence.

I think I'll spend my summer the way I had planned it before being introduced to these forums now.

I realize life is more fun when you aren't constantly worrying about whether you'll be banned or not!

Anyone want to go for a run with me?

I think the presented logic of more mods=more authority to del posts=more deleted posts is withstanding. I think however (also presented) that all the mods must be on the same page as to what offends them, so an established user that knows what cool and what's not doesn't get his/her posts deleted more often than needed. Rereading Fizzle's posts, I am under the impression that mods collaborate when a post is deleted. This is most likely NOT the truth (nor what he intended :P ).

I believe an auto message is sent when a message is deleted by a moderator. So if you feel a wrongfully deleted post, don't waste Feld's time, just message the original mod back, that way Feld doesn't have to check back with the mod who deleted it, saving everyone time.

Agreed, the staff knows what they're doing. And if your post is deleted you can contest it, but on the other hand, if you feel like you have to walk on egg shells and hold yourself back in what you post because you think a mod is looking over your shoulder and is ready to click that delete button, that's going to devalue the forums as a whole. Users might feel intimidated because they won't know how their post is going to be received since they may not think it's questionable. There are users here who put great stock into how their posts are received and have stated that their self-esteem takes a big hit when one of their posts/topics are deleted since they feel like they did something wrong when all it is is just a small deletion, no biggie.

Also I just wanted an opportunity to use the phrase "Trixie is a pony of nocturnal persuasion and negotiable affection" :D

It's been well-documented I'm all in favor on how the site is staffed and executed, but on this development I'm trying to look out for the general user and their concerns. "The Doctor of the people, for the people"©®™ (t-shirts on sale soon)

Sorry but I feel like we're going around in circles. I really do. Between Shank and others on the side of not liking the whole idea, and the staff like Zoop, Kyronea and etc. who brought up every possible concern and how they're all going to work together on it, I don't see the point in allowing this thread to sit here and have more and more new people come into thread and bring up these issues all over again. Zoop has said that the feature allowing you to see who made a moderation on your post is back up, and that they're going to be working on a 'why' as well. So if anything happens to you that you deem unfair, contact Feld0 or one of the other higher-up staff. And if you think they won't listen well oh well, that's too bad to hear. Because as they've all said ten billion times, they put countless volunteer hours into this site, and helping people the absolute best they can. They aren't perfect, but they do the best possible job they're able to do.

The ten or so new mods, called 'Sectional Mods, can't ban. Whether you're joking or not, it's a legitimate concern that was brought up and confirmed to be false by Alicorn Man himself.

I think this thread has officially run its course. Everyone's had enough of a chance to say what they have to say, and now all it can do is run around in a few circles. Thus, locked.
