I thought the two opening episodes (Mare In The Moon + Elements of Harmony) were god-awful, so those two get my choice. I also didn't enjoy Rainbow Falls and the MMMystery On The Friendship Express.

Something cannot be factually terrible.  There is enough ammo within the episode for people to make positive reviews, which they have, by the way.  After all, people are going to disagree, and if you hit anything hard enough with a hammer, it will break.

As far as Rainbow Falls is concerned, it can be proven to be factually terrible, because it is. Some of the reasons are:

  1. Rarity, Applejack, and Pinkie Pie are all flanderized. A specific trait was exaggerated beyond what they were capable of. Each of them had a trait overexaggerated to the point of one-dimensionalizing their personalities.

Rarity suffered the worst of the three because she's both flanderized and out of character. Thus far, it's her worst appearance this season. She understands the means of creating good quality clothing and designs depending on the event, scenario, and purpose. Suited for Success, pretty much all of Season 1, and Rarity Takes Manehattan back this up. Instead, her attitude is marginalized into an incompetent, aloof fool with no clue of the creative process.

  2. Almost every single contrivance is transparent, from the out-of-character villainzation of Spitfire and Fleetfoot to the fact that Snowflake and Fluttershy are there. (There's no good reason for Snowflake, who's a flier good enough to qualify for the Wonderbolt academy, to suddenly be clueless and hopeless.) Helia and Thunderlane explained how they couldn't compete with Dash in the relay race, but there are multiple pegasi throughout Equestria, including Ponyville, beyond those two. It took hundreds of pegasi to create the tornado in Hurricane Fluttershy, which means some of them are bound to live in Ponyville.

And really, if Snowflake and Fluttershy can't fly well, wouldn't they be better suited for the aerial sprinting competition and instead have Helia and Thunderlane team with RD in the relay?

  3. The dialogue is completely dumb. There's a ton of unnecessary and poorly placed exposition, from Fluttershy recounting Dash saving Soarin' from his fall moments after the audience saw it unfold to Twilight's petty spiel once Dash considered joining the Wonderbolts.

To paste Twilight's line to Dash:

Twilight Sparkle: If you fly for Cloudsdale, Pinkie Pie won't have anypony to cheer for. Rarity's uniforms will never be seen. And Applejack will have slaved over those Apple Brown Betties for nothing.

There are at least five better reasons than these. To quote my review for RF:

    By joining Clousedale:

    a. Rainbow Dash disappoints and betrays Ponyville, as the only reason she brings Fluttershy and Snowflake along is to qualify Ponyville for the aerial relay.

    b. She betrays Scootaloo, who looks up to Dash and uses her ambitions and support as motivation to help herself, Apple Bloom, and Sweetie Belle become the flag-holders for the Games. If no other team from Ponyville qualifies, then the training to wave the Ponyville flag at the Games is for nothing.

    c. The whole trip to the village becomes all for naught.

    d. Snowflake and Fluttershy train for the relay team and practice out of Dash's support and guidance. You don't play games with other peoples' trust.

    e. Dash can kiss her values, integrity, and moral goodbye, and the subsequent guilt will forever haunt her.

Comparing any of these five reasons to what Twilight said, she becomes petty and stupid meanwhile forcefeeding guilt down Dash's throat. Because she became an alicorn princess by learning the true magic of friendship, her actions disrespected the crown.

Just because one likes or dislikes an episode doesn't mean it's good or bad. In my last post, I hated Just for Sidekicks, but was it close to being the worst FIM episode? Not at all. At the time, I could count approximately ten episodes (not including Equestria Girls) that were much worse. But I really hate this one because the writing and plot development suck throughout.

tl;dr my opinions are fact

As said earlier everything is up to interpretation, no review/criticism/analysis can(nor should) be deemed fact. For example

Rarity, Applejack, and Pinkie Pie are all flanderized

I'll give you Rarity and AJ, but at this point just about anything Pinkie does can be considered flanderized. Personally? I think she was one of the better parts of the episode

from the out-of-character villainzation of Spitfire and Fleetfoot

Because we've seen so much of Fleetfoot right?

Again I'll give you Spitfire, but this was the first time we saw Fleetfoot(up until now she was either only mentioned or in the background). She hasn't had an established character before RF, and we don't if they are a true represent the Wonderbolts(especially with ponies like Soarin)

to the fact that Snowflake and Fluttershy are there. (There's no good reason for Snowflake, who's a flier good enough to qualify for the Wonderbolt academy, to suddenly be clueless and hopeless

Snowflake/Bulk Biceps was literally a visual gag up until this, I'll admit it's weird, but I don't think it's much of a big deal as your making it out to be, and besides, we don't even know how well he performed at the WA(he could've flunked hard for all we know)

Helia and Thunderlane explained how they couldn't compete with Dash in the relay race, but there are multiple pegasi throughout Equestria, including Ponyville, beyond those two. It took hundreds of pegasi to create the tornado in Hurricane Fluttershy, which means some of them are bound to live in Ponyville.

The Equestrian Games could be entirely voluntary for all we know, just because Ponyville has tons of pegasi doesn't mean they all want to compete. It's also possible that the other pegasi competing were chosen for events that are better suited for them

I'm not gonna deny that the episode has it's fair share of bullshit(and imo there's a lot)but that's still all just my opinion of the episode and I don't think it's near as bad as some make it out to be(though it's probably my least favorite S4 episode so far), and the same could be said for my other least favorite episodes. Hell there are practically essays out there that go into great detail explaining why Mare Do Well is one of the best episodes in the series

If you hate an episode and you think it's terrible that's fine, but please quit saying it's a fact when it's clearly an opinion

Uh, no. It isn't "factually" bad. That's a ridiculous statement. All of your points can have a counter point, and even if they can't some people might like some of what you would consider "problems".

You know i normally feel excited for the new episode,

i got a bad feeling this time.

I kinda made a video (psudo predicting) what's going to happen, as we're facing down another josh hayburn, episode, and castle mania was kind of a miss fire for me.

wasn't it the worst in the show? nah.  But i don't wanna judge the show as a whole.  I wanna judge season 4.    Spike as your service and mare do well are ancient history,

so least favorite to me would be something recent.

i'm really not feeling simply ways.. but hay i could be wrong.

I have a couple I'm going to put on blast.

"Sleepless in Ponyville" is a horrible episode. It's awful, plagued with OOC-ness, flaws played up for laughs, and making a character look like some god-like deity. How anyone can call that episode "good" is beyond me. It's awful, and I honestly wish that people would look at it past "D'aww, Scootaloo and RD are liek sisters  :muffins: " Because it is abso-fucking-lutely terrible beyond that aspect. People will like what they like, but I refuse to acknowledge that episode as good due to the horrid characterization of nearly every character (as is the case with all 3 of Powell's episodes thus far), and just the mere name of it makes me want to puke. I wish this episode, along with Powell becoming a writer for this series, never happened.

"Sonic Rainboom" is the bane of my whole existence in this fandom. It's a cancerous, parasitic episode that made RD look less confident than she really is and opened up the floodgates to a slew of Rarity hatred because people don't know how to forgive one's mistakes (pretty much the whole aspect of the show; friendship isn't perfect, but they remain hella good friends through the fire and the flames; and one of them is usually the whole conflict in the episode.) This horrid, vile episode is easily the worst of the series for me, and one watch over was one too many for me. It's that awful, and it left a permanent impression on me. I refuse to re-watch or give this piece of shit another chance, simply because I don't think I could stomach it.

*looks through the comments intently*

...

...

... And still nopony agrees with me.

*sigh* Oh well.

For me, the worst episode of the show was, with little competition, Ponyville Confidential.

Essentially, this episode sucks in the way nearly every CMC episode does for me: Diamond Tiara. The one-dimensional, unpleasant, barely-written plot device known as Diamond Tiara.

The difference between this and every other CMC episode is that here, she's in a position of authority. Unlike any other episodes, this episode wasn't a sake of the Crusaders getting in over their heads or making mistakes that can be possibly considered immoral or incorrect; this was something they were forced into a role of feeling obligated to do. Diamond Tiara didn't deserve her position, but she took every damn step to make hell out of it.

When the Crusaders were being hated and rained on and the like, I wasn't crying or feeling sympathy for the Crusaders, because I was too damn busy groaning at how mean-spirited DT made the episode. I don't care what people say: Friendship is Magic is generally a light-hearted show. But this episode was mean, cold, and presented an unpleasant sense of ponykind I really didn't want to see.

TL;DR Diamond Tiara sucks and I'm disappointed she still hasn't been written out of the show yet. Even more disappointed that she actually has fans.

Let's go on the rundown of my top worst five, with gratuitous rankings just for comparison:

5.  MMMystery on the Friendship Express (3/10)-- The only things that keep me from putting it on the level of "Rainbow Falls" are the Dudley Do-Rightesque/spy/ninja film parodies of Pinkie's wild accusations, which were just plain good fun, and the moral in general.  Otherwise, why, AKR, why?  You're a much better writer than this.  Why did you have to give the characters such cheap, unbelievable, and juvenile motives to eat the cake?  Dialogue was very subpar too and didn't help at all.

4. Rainbow Falls (2.5/10)-- I don't hate this episode as much as some other people seem to, but too many things were fundamentally wrong about it for me to even begin to like it-- obvious plot holes and inconsistencies, RD's team being too weak for the conflict to really work, and a host of other things that others have pointed out to death.  Plus, Rarity's cheerleader outfits.  Corey Powell, did you have to make the episode worse than it needed to be by hijacking Rarity's fashion sense?

3. The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well (2/10)-- I know, I know, everypony (well, not quite) hates this episode.  But still: not only was the idea of bringing RD down a peg through a rival "superhero" stupid, but the whole idea of bringing RD down a peg like that is just so out of character for the others it hurts.  And the dialogue leading up to that is just the worst I have ever seen.  But personally, the superhero references also fell flat for me.

2. Games Ponies Play (2/10)-- Obvious idiot plot is idiotically obvious.  You can't even defend the Mane 6 here by citing stress for the inspector's arrival because when they got to the train station to greet the inspector, they were presumably at least relieved enough to see the "inspector" to calm down enough to ask the obvious question.  Also, RD's reason of wanting to have the Crystal Empire get the Olympics because she was too traumatized that Cloudsdale didn't absolutely did not follow at all.  And the cherry of it all?  They were completely rewarded for their stupidity through plain dumb luck.  I found absolutely nothing to like about the episode except the appearance of Cadence, and even she was badly done here.

1. Daring Don't (1.5/10)-- Oh, no, where to begin?  First off, making Daring Do real seems to be so out of place in Equestria's previous worldbuilding it pains me to think about it.  More importantly, Dash was not only idiotic for stalking her, but virtually rewarded for doing so by sheer dumb luck like in "Games Ponies Play".  The nerd exchange between Dash and Twi ruined the progression of the story and was a cheap and insulting joke for fandoms like ours.  The moral was a non sequitor.  Also, why in the world aren't AK Yearling's publishers suspicious of her delaying the release of the book?  Was AK Yearling actually purposely hoping that some fan would come stalk her because of the publishing delay?  What. A. Terrible. Writer.  What. A. Terrible. Pony.  That episode had way too many flaws and questionable writing decisions to count.  I find it amazing that there are people who actually like this episode, but oh well.

IMHO, because the CMC weren't being plain stupid in that episode (I'm looking at you, "The Show Stoppers" and "Hearts and Hooves Day") and DT was more than just a bully it made the episode that much better and more relatable.  But oh well, opinions are opinions.

Dragon Quest.  Dog and Pony Show, Boast Busters, Power Ponies, and pretty much every episode focused on Spike are really bad too.

EDIT: After looking through some of the posts, I wonder if I'm the only one that didn't hate Rainbow Falls.

why? I thought it was shockingly good. I ask because everyone who dislikes it doesn't know what happened.

I think it was the lowest point for S4, but I wouldn't say it was one fo the shows worst(personal opinion). I still say it's better than most of the worst S1/S2 episodes

My opinion on this has changed along with the series.

First I thought that I just like all episodes. There wasn't a single one that I disliked.

Then came Canterlot Wedding. Chrysalis is so outrageously stupid that the conflict seems forced beyond belief. The curious thing is that I don't mind Shining Armor and Cadance. I like them (even if she is a princess and don't fully buy the explanation for her transformation in the book, but the comics really made me like Cadance, along with the other episodes she's in). So, I watch this episode every time thinking how I hate the premise, but love the execution and the new characters. And there is also the fact that I was happy that it seemed that Celestia would do something. And she did. She got kicked in the flank because they needed a Worf Effect for the scene and needed to get her out of the action so that she didn't steal the scene. Holy fudge, this is TERRIBLE writing!

Suddenly, Keep Calm and flutter On. Discord is a spoiled child the whole episode and the episode wants me to believe that Fluttershy has befriended him. No. It just doesn't work for me. But, it's now canon and I can live with it while rolling my eyes everytime I re-watch the episode.

Next came Princess Twilight Sparkle that RUINED the drama of Celestia and Luna being put one against another because of Nightmare Moon in a rushed, obnoxious scene. That scene tells the audience NOTHING new, while it soils previous canon. It only exists, I guess, because they needed to show the importance of the Elements of Harmony to new viewers. And then, the Elements got removed from the ponies and I keep seeing them as the meaningless sidekicks to the barely competent princess. Fortunately, this season seems to be fixing this.

And finally came Daring Don't. I hate this episode so much that I simply ignore it. Making Daring Do a real pony was such a dumb decision that flies in the face of the worldbuilding. Because of the absurdity of a tertiary character being so important and stealing the main characters' thunder in such a way that it makes Equestria seem like a freaking lawless desert of civilization when there is a freaking princess that can enter dreams. Oh sure... Crystal Empire came back and a guard runs to the princess to inform her of that. But there is a monster with a doomsday weapon out there... It's okay. Daring Do, who everyone thinks is a fictional character will fix it. ARGH!

On the same note... Trixie just waltz into Ponyville and takes the city for herself. This is so stupid. What? Is Celestia willing to let someone enslave an entire town and act as if nothing had happened? Did she even learn of this?! I just like this episode because i thought Trixie was hilarious (even though I think Twilight should have gone to Luna, not Zecora). But I can't get over how unbelievably stupid was Daring Don't. So, my "least favorite" episode.
