gaming Whats the hardest enemy you've ever fought in a RPG?

OP obviously doesn't play Disgaea games. Disgaea 2's prinny Baal rematch has 160 million hp and his other stats are absurdly high as well. And he only seems to get more ridiculous as the series continues; I think the latest incarnation of Baal has hp in the billions. Still, no RPG will ever be difficult (at least not in a lasting way) as long as you can grind levels or go pick up powerful equipment, basically just preparing your way through every encounter.

Still, the boss that gave me the most trouble so far would be Pringer X poison. He's got the standard insane stats you come to love from Disgaea along with a particularly troublesome ability. His ability makes it so that a particular skill can only damage him once. Now, I didn't cheese him (pick him up at the end of a turn to keep him from one shotting your entire group) so I had to do a ton of grinding and even then it was still troublesome because I would run out of damaging skills to use and be forced to forfeit since it would just take to long to whittle him down with standard attacks if my healers' sp could even last that long.

Final Fantasy IV started getting really, really difficult for me toward the end. I can't tell you how many hours I spent killing other crap just to level grind. I think I was at 60 something when I went to go fight Zeromus. I never did beat him. In fact, after I died the 40-something-th time, I just put FFIV down and never picked it back up.

@,

I'm going to take a wild guess and assume that you were playing the DS remake.  And I'm so sorry, the GBA remake (and original I would assume) wasn't nearly as brutal.  I never got around to playing it myself, but my sister found it exceptionally difficult (she gave up somewhere in the final dungeon).

As for me, the hardest enemy that I've actually defeated is Mithaniel Marr, the final boss in the evil campaign in Champions: Return to Arms.  At least as a relatively squishy dark elf shadowknight, any two or three hits from him is more than enough to kill you.  You can stand and perpetually block him, but he has a chance of going through your guard and has an attack combo that will immediately knock you prone, even while guarding (and once you're prone, you're basically dead).  You can run away to shoot ranged attacks at him, but he follows you and has a jumping strike that moves faster than you run and immediately knocks you prone.  Defeating him involved carefully maneuvering around his attacks, striking when given the opportunity, and not making any mistakes.

The hardest enemy that I've faced, but haven't defeated is definitely Shinryu from the GBA remake of Final Fantasy V.  He's an optional boss that's basically designed to be the most overpowered enemy in the game.  I never really made an effort to defeat him, since every time I did attempt to face him, he would take out my entire party in a frighteningly short amount of time while my characters did exactly zero damage to him...

Actually I was playing the PSP  remake lol I don't know if that makes any difference, but it didn't make Zeromus and less brutal...

The "Weapons" in the Final Fantasy games make my head ache. The only exception being Ultima and Omega Weapons in FFX, who were a complete joke. Speaking of secret FF bosses most of FFIV's(PSP) afterbosses are also ridiculous.

Ninetails from Megaman X Command Mission were also a huge pain if you didn't get X and Zero's second armors(I first fought him without getting those)

And then there's Velius from Final Fantasy Tactics. F*** Velius

Oh, I actually had no idea that it was ever released for the PSP.  It seems like that was released several years after the DS remake so...  I've got nothing.  I'll take your word for it though.

Hardest Enemies I ever Fought? Well These are the following Hardest Enemies I ever fought

Omega Weapon (FF4: The After Years, Final Fantasy 5, and Final Fantasy 8) - Had a hard time killing him in Final Fantasy 8, but may be the longest Fight. In Final Fantasy 4: The After Years, Omeguard was pretty much annoying.

Shinryu (FF4: The After Years, Final Fantasy 5, and Final Fantasy XI) -. Final Fantasy XI was an exception to kill him easily with a primeval brew, but It can be easily soloed with a White Mage Job after executing the blue proc (the blue !!) and careful enough on your heals along with afflatus solace and using your sarcrosanctity also not to mention keeping phalanx and stoneskin up at all times. The bad parts about soloing shinryu in final fantasy XI is that he can absorb your damage when his wings are opened while attacking, using a TP move, and casting a spell.

Iron Giants (FF3 DS, FF8-9, and FFXI) - In Final Fantasy 3 DS, You have to spam curaja at all times and heal with elixirs. In Final Fantasy 8 and 9, It can be a real painful. Final fantasy XI wise, well if you're a Summoner or Beastmaster, they can be soloed easily with 3 atmas which is the Ducal Guard, Minikin Monstrosity, and Ultimate or Pandemonium Warden's (summoner only). If you're a Summoner, You gotta watch your distance on fighting the Iron Giant, you gotta have enough space and distance to re-summon your pet. If you're a Beastmaster, well you're gonna need a lot of time for your job ability to be ready which is the Call Familiar. The only Downside Part about soloing an Iron Giant in Final Fantasy XI is that they can stun your pet so you have to time your pet commands with or at a good or right timing.

Proto-Babil (FF4 DS) - One of the hardest enemies I ever fought, but never managed to kill it.

Legacy bosses (Dragon Quest IX) - They Get tougher every time I level them, but it's mostly I pick on Nimzo because he's the highest on my game.

Iselia Queen (Star Ocean 2) - Pretty Much hard to kill.

Arch Dynamis Lord (Final Fantasy XI) - He splits into copies after doing enough Damage to him, but one of those copies is the real one.

Gotta comment on this since you brought up Mother 3, the final boss(Don't wanna spoil anything) was the hardest boss ever, not because of how challenging it was mechanics-wise, although it was very hard, but because I was having troubles actually wanting to do what I was doing(If you've beaten the game, you'll know what I mean on this)

Smithy from Super Mario RPG was hard for me because you constantly have to keep hitting him with everything you got. It's tough without Geno boosting your stats during the battle. I can't beat the game without Geno. sad.png

Worse than this was Culex.

In Empire Total War, I was the Russian Empire and the Maratha Confederacy declared war on me, after I had completed my conquest of Mesopotamia and Persia of Ottoman control, fortunately for me I had a lot of soldiers in those regions, so I was ready for a counterstrike and my Russian Navy was already huge, so I dispatched them to the Indian Ocean, as a result I had to fight simultaneously at sea and on land, against massive Maratha numbers. I won a decisive battle at Punjab, but I had to abandon the city to the Marathas, then I came back with two armies and laid siege to the city, meanwhile I sank the last of the Maratha Navy and attacked their ports, to stop them from building ships and cut them off from trade, after Punjab was recaptured I built new armies and completely conquered India, thus ended the Maratha Confederacy, they fought hard and where determined, but they lagged behind my military in terms of technology, numbers and economy, and the strength of my naval fleets was also key to victory.

I'm really surprised that none of the Tales of___ Games were not mentioned!

The hardest boss I have fought was probably Lord Yggdrasil From Tales of Symphonia. It is a noss fight literally meant to not be beaten, which is the creators of the games way of saying keep trying, lose all your items and heath and waste your time fighting him. Kinda a big FU in my opinion. But later on the boos gets his just desserts. (Btw I may have misspelled his name.)

In spyro year of the dragon (does that count?) there was that demon guy (the one you have to defeat to get to the final world)

I hated him. He always killed me with his fireballs and I was never quick enough to fight back. I always asked my sister to defet him I still haven't defeated

him to this day.

One of the hardest bosses I faced? IMO, The four consecutive fights in the Tower of Babel from Final Fantasy IV.

Well, that's a bitch. Nothing in-between? No. The hardest part? Rubicante. I hardly survived him OM HIS OWN. NOW, ALL THESE BASTARDS TOO.

Rubicante would always use this fire attack. KILLS MY LOWEST LEVEL CHARACTER IN ONE HIT, WITH LIKE 500 EXTRA DAMAGE, SHE WAS LEVEL 66. She happened to easily kill the foes on the map. BASTARD.

This goddamn thing.

I absolutely HATE the Demon Wall from Final Fantasy IV. It is worse than any super optional boss in any other video game. Why? Because it's required to progress and not something I can skip. That stupid thing made me want to throw my controller out the window and almost stop playing just... forever. It's one of the things that made me not like that game all that much. It's even worse than the Final Boss. (Though that guy's no slacker. It requires a ridiculous strategy. At least, that I've figured out: you have to keep two of your party members dead to live. Otherwise, you'll just waste turns and resources reviving them when they constantly die. His ATB/turn attack order is seriously messed up. That's only if you don't grind a lot however. I'm not counting excessive grinding as being a legitimate way to make a boss easier as I consider too much of it to be bad game design.)

Anyway, back to the wall. That thing has to be beaten in a time limit, which is always a favorite thing of mine. It attacks super fast even when you cast Slow on it. And has an instant death attack. It's just cheap, that's what it is. I never did like wall-type enemies in games, but this one just cuts the cake.

It's gotta be Zhaitan from GW2. Yus, the final boss...

God, we all used cannons, fought those weird eyeball things, we had an awesome time, but geez it took FOREVER... It'd be 6 hours straight if it were only 20 of us,but luckily our numbers were quite large. xD

I was pretty squishy, I was an elementalist sylvari...

Buffy Buffy, Healy, Healy, Dying 30 more times...

I forgot to upload any screenshots during the fight, so I'll use someone else's!

I also didn't add any footage of the battle...

So, again, I'll use a video so you can get an idea of how the whole combat works in this... Beautiful... MMO...

Deathclaws, Cazadores, and rad scorpions in Fallout. On very hard, you die just looking at them. Probably. I haven't lived long enough to see them . Another one was Elite Four(Pokemon). It's not so much 'hard' as it is cringe-worthy watching your supplies slowly drain.

Took me bucking 4 days to defeat the Elite 4... xD

Especially with my Xerneas, he was pretty crap until the end battle with the actress lady xD Dazzling Gleam TM saved my life!
