Roller Coaster Enthusiast thread

I've been to Cedar Point a handful of times. Haven't been there in years. I'm overdue for another trip, but my boyfriend hates heights. :(

I'm glad that Cedar Point was talked about on the very first page because most of the other roller coaster threads I've seen on the Internet are about people raving about Six Flags *coughwhenalotoftheirridesarerecolorsofcedarpointridesough*

At any rate, I've never been on TTD even though it looks awesomely fun... I'm just scared. D: But I've been on all the other roller coasters at Cedar Point. I love the Raptor, Millennium Force, Gemini, Iron Dragon, Wicked Twister, and the Mean Streak.

Yeah, I agree with you about the Six Flags thing, except for the part that's really hard to read... Most of the rides at Six Flags are factory models that basically are built the same for many parks... Yeah TTD is pretty fun, the worst part is the trip over the top, because that's when it slows down a lot...

Oh lol I just said that many of the rides at Six Flags are Cedar Point recolors. XD

One time I was talking about TTD at another forum, and one person was like, "You mean it's like Kingda Ka?" and I was like, "...wut." Then she showed me a video. Turns out it's a green TTD that they made a couple feet taller and a few miles per hour faster. So... no, it's not like Kingda Ka. Kingda Ka is like TTD. :V

I remember going to Cedar Point in 2007, when the TTD was still fairly young. Every time I walked past it, the cars would get to the top and... then it would fall down backwards. I was NOT going on that ride that day! lol

Yeah, though I think that was really the only thing Intimin, could have done with something of that speed. It was the first one to go over 125 mph, so I think they were a little scared to try anything new, except for the hill at the end.

TTD does rollback rather a lot.

The only thing that kind of irritates me is when someone says that another park "copied" their ride...as if it was a knockoff or something. (Not putting you in that category) :)

I haven't been to Cedar Point in over 8 years, so I still haven't got the chance to ride any of the awesome new rides (though my favorite coaster there is probably Millenium Force).

Well, the go-to amusement park for everyone I know around here is Cedar Point, and people will say that Six Flags "copied" off some of Cedar Point's rides. I mean, it's not actually a big deal, but TTD and Kingda Ka are reeeeeaaaaally similar, and Kingda Ka ended up swiping the Tallest Roller Coaster award from Cedar Point all because they used the same design and made it a little taller and a little faster. I'm sure Kingda Ka is an awesome fun ride to go on, and I'm not gonna, like, flame anyone who goes on it or anyone who likes it, but people should at least know which one came first.

I know that theme parks can purchase roller coasters, which is how Six Flags could even have a roller coaster like TTD without getting sued, lol. It just annoys me that people don't know when TTD was the first of its kind.

That reminds me about this Six Flags Commercial for Kingda Ka

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=OL2CJJeVFkE

It bugs me that they say that there are no other coasters like it, even though that TTD is almost a clone (except for the bunny hill). But then again, they are advertising to the general public.

I have been on Kingda Ka and TTD, and I honestly like Kingda Ka better. I'm not one of those people who loath over the shoulder restraints and praise lap bars, but for these two rides it really didn't make a difference to me. The bunny hill on Kingda Ka does give a pretty big advantage on the bunny hill since you actually get a decent amount of airtime.

But I do get annoyed on the whole TTD v.s. KK topic anyway... can't we just appreciate that they are both awesome rides?

That commercial is annoying... lol zero coasters like it, what a load~

You know, I feel like I would like the bunny hill too. But hey, I've never been on either ride so I can't really even compare. XD

And yes, the debate is silly. TTD came first, and Kingda Ka is faster and taller and has an extra hill. The seats are different for both. Those are pretty much the only important facts about both rides. Which one is better? That's up to the individual to decide~

Haha I just got a new comment on one of my videos which reads:

"Six Flags sucks. They copy Cedar Point."

Well...that pretty much sums up this entire conversation... :P

Hahaha, Cedar Point is better though. XD

Even though I've never actually been to a Six Flags. One of my brothers went to the one in Chicago though and he said that he wasn't nearly as fun as Cedar Point. But each Six Flags is different I'm sure.

What video?

Well...The only Six Flags that I would compare to Cedar Point would probably be Magic Mountain (and maybe Great Adventure)

Oh, and here is the video:

Magic Mountain is about 30-45 min north of Los Angeles and its basically considered the "king" of the Six Flags parks (it has the most coasters).

Great Adventure is in central New Jersey (about an hour from Philladelphia, and 1 1/2 hours from NYC), and its probably considered one of the top parks along with Magic Mountain.

Don't like the copy thing, eh? I know one thing- Lots of japanese companies do just that- I've seen vekoma/arrow and intamin (multi looper) rip offs. They don't even heartline the rolls correctly. Ouch.I'm in the UK, and my closest major rides are in Thorpe Park. The Swarm, Stealth, Nemmy Inferno, Saw, dat stuff. Yes, Nemmy Inferno VS nemmy is a good argument, here's my verdict-Prelift- Nemmy Inferno- 1Nemmy- 0First Drop- Nemmy 1Nemmy Inferno 1First ElementNemmy's corkscrew beats inferno's vertical loopNemmy-2Inferno-12nd ElementNemmy's turn is wonderful. Inferno's zero-g-roll stinks.Nemmy- 3Inferno- 1Third element---Inferno's interlocking corks are a-mazing, nemmys zero-g-roll has good theming but bad forces so-Inferno-2Nemmy-3(Nemmy gets 1 bonus point for the vertical loop)Nemmy- 4Inferno-2Finale- Inferno has the best finale on anything, pulls amazing force into the breaksNemmy pulls a good turn too, just less forceful.Nemmy- 4Inferno- 3So, nemmy is better than it's cousin.I think it's safe to win even is i add the last point (Theming). And if i add it, Nemmy wins by 2. Amazing ride. But if i do compare nemmys vertical loop to inferno's vertical loop, Inferno's is better. So, i live close to a major park (Thorpe), not too far to another major park (Alton), and, yeah. Also, You not excited about chinese wingriders? Chinese has a bunch of meisho created terrible rides, so it amazes me that a park has contacted B&M.

Just posted another video! A POV of Poltergeist at Six Flags Fiesta Texas! I don't really like point of view videos as much as offride, but they are still fun to put up. (And yes I got permission to film it, don't get your jimmies rustled :P )

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MyxLmjr7ks

Yet another awesome video! I've always wondered though how do people get permission to film on-ride videos, I've wanted to try it, but I have no idea who your supposed to ask...

I usually contact human resources and ask them, but I also have to tell them that I have this theme park youtube channel with blah blah views and subscribers ect... They most likely think of it as free advertisement for there park, so I usually get my requests granted. But, I have been declined many times, and I'll try to resort to *cough cough asking the ride op*.

Most people these days still sneak cameras on rides, but I haven't done that in over two years so...yep :)

Anypony ever been to worlds of Fun? They have some fairly good coasters. None good for me though. I work there. I recommend the mamba and the patriot.

Worlds of Fun... Never been there, yet I've always wanted to. Patriot looks like a freaking amazing roller coaster. I might have to try that place out sometime...

ah, I haven't really been on a lot of roller coasters, but the ones I have been on, I loved.

my first roller coasters were at mall of America, but those aren't really anything. years later I took my first trip to Disney World and I rode every roller coaster there, but I hear those are tiny too. just two weeks ago I went back for my second trip to Disney World and my first trip to Sea World. I went on the Sea World roller coasters a bunch of times and loved every second I was on them, but I hear those ALSO aren't very big.

one of my goals is to go on bigger and bigger roller coasters over time. I wish there were roller coasters where I lived. the only time we get them is when travelling amusement parks come around, but I don't really trust those. they're not very big either /: my whole family hates rides, so there's not much chance of me travelling anywhere for roller coasters until I'm old enough to afford it myself.

Sounds about like me... I recently broke 200 ft... Dang that sucks man. My family usually tries to get at least one amusement park a year.

I sadly haven't been to Worlds of Fun yet...but I have driven past it multiple times (Our family drives from Texas to Iowa every year to visit family). This video probably shows the closest I have ever been...and it really makes me sad :(

Damn it, I haven't been on a lot of roller coasters, but I wanna go on a lot more. Like for an example: A roller coaster called Manta at Seaworld. It's basically this:

Manta is one of my favorite coasters. I honestly love flying coasters, and every time there is one I go on it. Tatsu looks more fun though.
