Probably slice of life. You'd be surprised how fascinating and fun it is to read stories that are just about the daily ups and downs, ins and outs of life. I certainly hate dark and depressing stuff, I'm not always in the mood for shipping, comedy is okay, etc etc, but slice of life is usually really good. it's also most of what I write and enjoy reading, which is cuteness and diabeetus-inducing stuff xP

Slice of life and shipping. Or basically anything cuddly and happy enough.

Though it is all about quality, I would read almost anything except Grimdark/gore if I knew it was well written.

Unsure about Human though. MLD is human, right ? Haven't read that one, and will probably not read it in near future.

I for one love sad fics and grimdark. (Good) sad fics touch me emotionally and I really do like that. And I like grimdark because I'm a big horror fan and love to see how the cute and innocent world of Ponyville is turned into something dark and horrible.

 

But to be honest I haven't tried out that many fics in the other genres, but I base that on what I like to read in general.

Definitely grim dark. You see, everypony fell in love with Fallout: Equestria, and it was an amazing story, very moving. I cries all night for it! So I have to say definitely grim dark because sometimes there is a silver lining

I typically read a lot of shipping (not clop, and typically mane 6 only), comedy and slice of life. I can't sit through a 15 000 page story, let alone Fallout: Equestria or Past Sins, so I stay away from epic stories and stick with short one-shots that I can skim through it in a few minutes. I wish I had a higher attention span. Sad stuff is good too, as long as it's realistic and not too cheesy.

 

Besides, I tend to prefer stories that could work in the show, not extremely sad or grimdark stuff.

Comic slice-of-life, just like show canon. To me the characters don't lend themselves well to very sad subjects, that and most sad subjects fail to really capture my interest. But mostly I seek stories that appear to have the potential for exploring complex philosophical concepts or deal with political matters, which I've found to be most common and/or apparent in slice-of-life comedy.

I love sad stories like My Little Dashie and Sealing the Envelope because I have always been a fan of shows that get me depressed (I really don't know why). Like the anime Clannad it gets you really happy and then it punches you in face with a fist of sad when you least expect it and that is just season 1. Season 2 of the series makes you so depressed you just want to sit on the floor and not do anything for weeks.

I am really okay with any genre if the writing is good.

 

My favorite genres are Comedy and Slice of Life, because I like those kind of fics that can feel like the show.

I prefer certain characters and combinations.

A Sweetie Belle and Rarity Sad Slice of Life usually is sad.

 

Pinkie Pie in sad fanfits is usually always VERY sad.

 

I enjoy Twilight comedies a lot, too.

 

Shipping only really impresses me if it's well written. I tend like Sweetie Belle shipped with another filly. I've also read an adorable Featherloo fanatic, the other day. Fluttermacs aren't too bad!

I don't really like mare x mare shipping.

 

Slice of life can really go with anything.

I didn't read that many fanfictions but I mostly read Grimdark like Rainbow Factory and CRISIS: Equestria. I don't like ''gory'' grimdark, just grimdark feeling. I also love sad, even REALLY REALLY sad. I never really read anything sad from the my little pony fandom except Rainbow Factory but I love sad stories. I also like Adventure.

thanks for the suggestion i will look int le naki ko. I think some goods show to watch after being depressed are acchi docchi or hanamaru youchien

 

Clannad though is an anime that i can barely keep from tearing up just at the name of the show. I can barely watch the intros anymore because of the meaning behind them.

Alright, no big secret I am a huge fan of shipping fics. On Fimfiction that is what I normally look up, and am constnelty awaiting updates to fics like Vinyl and Octavia: Universtiy Days. I'm also still waiting to find out if one writer is going to continue his work on a a Trixie X Twilight Shipfic(To lazy to find the title sorry). So yes I love shipping, but sometimes I read others such as sad and slice of life. Not really a big fan of Grimdark or HiE.

i don't rely care what kind of fan fic i read as long as its good, and i can also turn my mind off and enjoy reading grimdarks and shipping i am very meh about because its all the same AppleJack gets shipped with Rarity or Rainbowdash and Rainbowdash gets shipped with everypony.

i prefer Slice of Life or Adventure ones (again if there well written) but it all go's down to word of mouth when i read a fan fic i don't go out looking for them which i rely should because My Little Dash was hyped to me as a very sad story that would make anyone cry but when i read it it was very crappy and when i stated that point well lets say that one of the reasons i don't call myself a brony,

You shouldn't have "multiple" as a choice, because this is asking your favorite. I wanna see which ones people like!

 

I love well written normal fics, the problem is, there aren't many that fit that description. They have a lot of potential in the beginning, but then turn into clop. Or the plot just sucks. Because of this, I'm making my own normal fic with a good plot!

I actually now have become a fanfic addict thanks to this discussion. I'm currently reading a fanfiction that is 31 chapters long and has about 6,000 words per chapter. Not saying it is a bad thing though because I nearly peed my self i was laughing so hard from this one. It is called Anthropology and so far it has been a conspiracy about Celestia covering up the fact that humans existed and Lyra is on the hunt for evidence.

 

!!!!!SPOILERS AT THIS POINT NOW!!!!!

The parts that I laughed the hardest at is when Lyra becomes human and eats a burger, which causes her to freak out that meat tastes so evilly delicious and when she eats a flower in the house she is staying at and comments about how it has spoiled because it tastes bitter.

I picked multiple because my favorite is Fallout: Equestria. Which fits into many of those categories. I just didn't know which it fit into best.

No preference really here as long as there is a nice balance between the stories and not have stories to be overly happy or overly sad.

 

For an example: Love is in the air Literally......It was a nice little story with its happy and funny moments with a little randomness put into it.

I like good shipfics and good comedy, if you mix them then that can be amazing as well. Never read grimdark and probably never will

My favorite genre of fanfiction is romance. I don't know why. I'm not a terribly romantic person and I have little experience in the field, but I love reading and writing about it and challenging myself to pull off unusual pairings. With MLP I'm still tossing around ideas, but someday soon you will see one of these from me. Something light and airy and innocent, consistent with the spirit of the show while taking two ponies' relationship a small step further. That's my favorite kind of romantic story for this show. I take little moments between the ponies and remember them in case I want to build on them later.

 

And I might as well throw in my least favorite genre. Dark, grimdark, evil, emo, tragedy, whatever you want to call it. My respectful and well-intended message to everyone who tries this: you're late to the party. It's not the 90's anymore. The novelty of going dark has worn off for me. I don't want to see the characters from My Little Pony commit murder, cut themselves, get mutilated or killed, become vamponies, swear like equine sailors or try to destroy Equestria. At least clopfics have a payoff. The dark stuff just depresses me from start to finish, and it makes no sense to me. Pinkie Pie is not a psycho killer, Twilight Sparkle is not a dark goddess who will plunge ponydom into despair, Rainbow Dash does not have to be crippled...you all get the idea, so I'll stop myself now before this turns into the kind of rant a younger TailsAlone used to make on a regular basis.

 

Just because you write grimdark doesn't mean I won't like or respect you, you're a brony just like me and everyone else. But...why do you want to hurt the ponies?

 

Then again, someone could show me the same picture and ask me why I could possibly get turned on by cartoon ponies... Better not bury myself there.

 

But um...um...at least I want them to feel good!! *runs away*
