Would you make a bad moderator?

Pan the Fabulous Ferret

Not sure why people can't seem to answer this question without pretending to be humble.

I think I'd have to divide the issue into two separate questions.

Would I make a good mod? and Do I appear like I'd make a good mod?

The answer to the former is yes. The answer to the latter is no.

In regards to the former question I feel I must point out that being a moderator is not rocket science. It may be annoying and even time-consuming but it's nothing beyond what I'm capable of handling.

In regards to the latter question, I must maintain my no answer.

I'm quite sure I don't appear like I'd make a good moderator. In the same way that someone sitting in a movie theater laughing and having fun wont appear like he's the ideal person you'd want to handle ticket sales and post-movie clean ups. Nevertheless the same person is likely very much capable of being serious when it's necessary.

On a side note, I don't see why people are so quick to degrade themselves when it comes to answering this question. Perhaps it's because people think saying they are horrible for the job is a genius way of fooling the staff that you'd be perfect for it. Who knows.

You know, I never thought I'd ever be moderator anywhere- but I also never thought I wouldn't be able to do it. It's really not so bad, and besides, I've pretty much got all day to be here anyways. ;)

Yes, most definitely.

I'm a very emotional and sensitive person. As Zoop has witnessed I can crack under pressure at times, and panic. I'm also a fairly free person, who prefers to have control over their time. Of course, with a lot of moderators then that reduces the stress on individuals, but I still probably wouldn't be well off. I also don't post as often as I used to and lurk a lot instead of coming out and saying things. I'm very cautious and careful.

I wouldn't deny an invitation, but 1. I would probably only last a week at most, and 2. It ain't gonna happen. :P There's so many people on here that could be a million times better.

I would make a terrible moderator, mostly because I'm fine with flame wars, trolls, swears, haters, sexual content, other nsfw work stuff, etc. so my judgement would be bad. I would tolerate people to much, if I was a mod and you told me to "**** off and suck a *****" I would be fine with it and just laugh.

...But if I was a player mod on RuneScape... Mutting spree :) followed by perm ban of my acc :( but the games already gone to hell :) which is also bad :(

I would probably be the worst mod ever, mostly because, as you all know, I'm a troll in disguise. ;) In fact, the day I become a moderator is the day I run around and start causing mayhem in the forums, causing a downward irreversible spiral of destruction.

I am also a very serious person in general, hate "silly jokes" such as with the case of that one staff member impersonating Scootaluna (god, that staffguy was an idiot), and absolutely detest roleplaying with the very burning passion within my heart. If I was forced to become a moderator, the one section I would BEG not to be put in is Roleplay World. Failing that, I'd increase character minimum in that subsection to ten thousand as an example of my righteous trollishness.

I've been a mod many times before, be it game servers, forums, I know what it's like,

to be a mod you have to be patient, at least with what I was dealing with, people yelling in the teamspeak going "OMG HACKER GAWWWWWW, NO HES THE HACKER, NO HE IS, NO YOU STARTED IT!...."

Posted Image - .....

But in all seriousness, I like to think I did a pretty good job running the servers and forums back in the day, I don't know how people perceive me on these forums, other then a ace attorney addict :P

But I tend to be responsible when it comes to my roles.

I'd be a good mod for the roleplay section, I believe. It'll give me a reason to be on more, and I can delete ALL THE POSTS! But seriously, I'd be I wussy mod. Stridew's too soft for all that. :P

I'd make a terrible mod. Anybody who knows me knows I'm hungry for power and won't hesitate to abuse it, so there's no way I'd become one in the first place. Of course, I'd probably also just pretend to be legit for awhile so they'll give me mod powers, then go bat shit crazy with it and inflict irreparable damage on the users here. It would be especially effective because I'd constantly mention in passing about how I'd make a bad mod and how the staff would be insane to appoint me. But once they did, you can;t really expect me not to jump at that, I'd just hope that nobody would notice when I instantly accept the position after spending months saying how I probably wouldn't.

But the plan seems to be working so far.

Dang, we never saw it coming too. 0_o Oh well, say la vi (I don't know if I said that, but I don't care)

Oh you troublemaker, you Aur! :P

Anyways, I'd make a terrible Mod here because frankly, I got enough headaches to worry about IRL. Add on to the many RPs I'm a part of here and I'd probably go a little crazy in my room. Not to say I couldn't do it, but it feels like it's the one of the worst jobs ever having to be the "Post Police".

Well, to be honest, I don't know how good of a mod I'd be. I mean yes, I try to help people, yes, I try to see how people are so I know how to talk with them, and if coming, "deactivate a discussion bomb", so to speak, and if needed. But...being you have to make your stand. And you also have to prepare in case someone wonders WHY you deleted or hid the message and all that jazz. Plus, you also need to realize when is something going in a bad direction. I'm not the kind of guy who realizes this things that easily, but I AM sure, that I'm not the guy who makes his stance. I'm more like Fluttershy on that regard. Hence why, I think I COULD mod...if it weren't for that little thing. But I guess asking an actual mod with experience would tell me if it is that straight forward, or is even less complicated.

AnonBrony, I know you're watching this thread, and thinking it through, I think you could go for mod :) .

I really can't say for sure. Mainly because I don't know what it's really like.

I mean, would I seriously have to be on at all times? If I could just have a laid-back thing, and come-on when I feel like it and do some clean up then then yeah, I think I would make an ok mod. But by the looks of it, you have to spend all your free time on it. That's not to say, I wouldn't accept the if they gave it to me, I do very much want to help the community, I just think I would need a more test drive.

I don't think I would bad, just not the best choice.

Do I want to be moderator?

Depends on what actually is it like to be a moderator. However, I probably never going to find that out unless I become one.

I just hoped if they do choose me next, that it is because they come with a rational decision.

Ehh.... I don't think i'd make the worst mod or anything. I do spend quite alot of time on the forums, but only in the afternoon. However I do atleast spend time lurking the forums when I don't have school or something or when i have freetime.

Still i don't know if i'd like feeling obligated to be on the forums doing things all the time.

And people would respect me and expect professionalism all the time from me.

Now while I can be professional sometimes I'm sure I wouldn't really wanna be professional all the time. I like to be normal on occasions.

I'd me a decent mod. I don't know if I'd be a super amazing mod or anything, but i could do the job a bit. Still I don't know if i'd want all the random respect for just being a mod.

I think I would be a good moderator but only because I have had past experience in the field. In honesty, that doesn't even matter either. You need to adjust to the community and overall just be everybody's body. Sort of like Customer Service at a Best Buy or something lol. If you can gain yourself a reputation into being for the members and respecting what they post, then that's a good start. The rest is simple! Just edit out all the biiiiiig baaaaaad troll/spam posts. Simple, right? Unless you're a troll mod. In which case, that's nooooooo gud.

I truly believe that someone with enough dedication to the site and knows a good amount of forum etiquette can someday be a mod for any forum. You just got to work at it, that's all.

While I would be very capable of being a moderator here, it is not a position that I would seek. The reason I would make a good mod is that I am capable of enforcing rules dispassionately and without playing favorites and I do have the patience needed. However I have no desire to turn that which I enjoy into work.

@,

I'm generally more concern on knowing what it would be like.

With there rule about: If you say yes you won't be moderator, kinda makes it hard to answer if you are more unsure.

If I'm being honest do I want to be moderator? I said idk, but it actually is leaning more towards yes. I do want to help out the site even if takes out my free time.

However, I really don't know if I would make a good moderator. I made some mistakes, and now I plan to fix that, however would the mods believe that? I have no idea.

Would I make the same mistakes as last time? I have no idea.

I can generally still communicate with the staff members without Skype using stream, though it would be harder. I would probably need help.

Even with parental control, depending on the features, I could use other computers or my 3ds.

I get up at random times so I have plenty of time covered.

I barely have any homework to do.

Honestly, I think I would make an ok moderator. If I knew more about maybe I could be better.

However, upon saying that entire paragraph, I probably won't be. :/

I wouldn't be a bad choice, but I would probably be way too lenient. I've been a mod on a couple minecraft servers so I have the experience. If I was a mod I would rather it be on something like the MLP Forums steam group, although I know Ashbad has that under control. On the minecraft servers I'm a mod on all the users love me because I never bust anyone for breaking the rules, I just give warnings and never follow through with threats. So vote for me as mod for 2012 and you will never again face being kicked or banned XD

But serious now, I might wish to get my name on the list to be noticed, maybe even apply for a trial-mod, any idea how I can do this?

I think I have what it takes, I was a mod a few years ago on another (now dead) tiny forum. But I have one little thing that some may consider a flaw... I would lock idiotic threads with something like

Roses are red

Violets are blue

My poem sucks

But your thread is shit

and I would show no mercy towards rulebreakers and general assholes, normally giving them public warnings with belittlement. Yeah, they deserve it but some don't think a mod should act that way, while others do.

I would think so i won't be a bad one but i'm partly sure i would never get the chance if per chance i asked for it

It's not for anything bad actually it depends who you ask but it's usually my kindness that get's in the way but i'm pretty fair and treat everyone/pony fairly and kinda like a bud. But would not hesitate to use my earned power to take care of the situation can't really play favorites around here which would hurt me if the violator is a friend i made on here but it has to be.

Mentioning those flaws that can hold me a normal member forever if i got a chance i'd be alright but then again it be a long shot.

Being a mod isn't as awkward or intimidating as some might think. It can be if you make it that way, but by default it's not. They were and remain ordinary members of the community, still conversing with everybody else on the same level as before, still participating in the same activities, etc. You're a regular member foremost and you slip into moderator mode when necessary. Think of a mod as more of an elder sibling than a bouncer.

I could do it/have done it elsewhere. I "moderate" in real life too, except that sometimes involves law enforcement and physically securing my workplace as well.

Meh. I feel like I'd get the hang of it if it were brought up, but I'd rather it not. Not to mention that my main hours on this forum are actually during my work hours. Conflict of interests like woah.

In short, I would make a bad moderator because I would burn this place to the ground without mercy or compassion. Nobody would be spared - not even the children.

...I fuckin' love you sometimes.

I have been a moderator before on a mental health support site, it wasn't awful but it did eat up a lot of time, not to mention having to play moderator in a chat room is fucking awful. I ended up stepping down mostly because I didn't have the time to dedicate to it, let alone did I really enjoy it, I already work for a living, I didn't want to work for free in a community where I was suppose to be for support and fun.

I would be the bitch mod everyone hates. I can be very vocal and outspoken, and I pick fights. So if I think you broke a rule or something, that'd be the end of it.

I can also be very chill too. Sure I have a big mouth but sometimes all I wanna do is chat and relax with fellow Bronies.

Basically I'd be a very bipolar mod. I'd either be nice or angry. Neutral really. :P
