How quickly do you read?

Books, you know those things made of paper and full of words that people rarely glance upon these days..

 

Anyway.. Mybpointbis, none of my friends ever seem to read, and I know very few people who read often, I love reading and find myself quickly enthralled by the magic of books, too quickly in fact, for in my desire to know what happens next I find myself consuming books at aerator fast pace. I've just finished the last book in a trilogy, a book named "The Traitor Queen" it occurred to me after finishing it that the people I know who do read spend weeks or months on a single book, I devoured all 531 pages of this book in 13 hours.

 

 

So I ask, how quickly do you read?

 

As a secondary question to those who don't read, why don't you?

 

(as a comparison, I finished the last of the Harry Potter books in 2 days, which would be about 20 hours of reading)

Well it really depends on how the book is, and im not just trying to rush through it. So it took me two seconds to read the topic title, and about 20 secs to read your post, which should give you an idea how fast i read.

 

As for the second question, I dont like to read not because it is boring, but because after reading 10 pages i already forgot what was on the 2-5 page, than the rest of the book doesn't make since.

Most stories I read are digital, although I do enjoy hardcopies of books as well. I actually have to avoid reading - not because I hate it, but because I like them too much.

 

I love delving into someone else's imagination, and once I get started on a story, I have to finish it. Even if it requires losing most of my sleep for the night and skipping some tasks during the day.

 

On the flip side, there are things that I have to attend to, thus, a book/story normally lasts me 2 - 3 sittings.

I absolutely love to read. The Harry Potter series are some of my favorite books. As for how fast I read hmm, as a comparison, I will use the HP books as you did. I read the last Harry Potter book in six hours. I generally can finish a book a day between having to stop for work, homework and other daily distractions. Depends on the material, really. If it's fiction and it's interesting, I'm quite fast. I can devour the any of the Harry Potter book in less than eight hours. But of course, after that I only could recall the major details

 

If it's something science-y and all wall-o-text-jutsu, it would took me about 10 hours just to read and understand a single 2000 words pdf.

I love reading but I often don't find the time for reading... I have a whole library of books at home, many of which have gone untouched over the years. I hope to read them one day, maybe when I'm old and grey, every one of them, that'd be nice.

 

Part of my problem is I read quite slowly. Not because I am a poor reader, on the contrary I have always been a great reader reading above my level, but I read very slowly to savor the book if I like it. I often don't even read books that I feel I don't like after getting to certain point in them, I just toss them to the side and look for the next to hold my attention (the ones that hold my attention I read vigorously).

I love to read, or at least I use to, reading every time I had free time. Let me think, I read fast when I want to, especially if it interests me, such as The Hunger Games did which I read in about 10 hours.

I love to read and i think i read pretty fast. I just finished Siddhartha, which is about 100 pages (at least i think so. I read it on my kindle)in about 2-2.5 hours. I read more simple fiction faster. I read the sixth harry potter book in about 4 hours.

348 wpm, according to my last test, if we're asking statistics. I LOVE to read, I have a library IN MY HOUSE. When I'm done with a book, I usually give it to a friend or donate it to the library (unless I need money, then I sell them at McKay's.)

 

I really think more people need to read, weather from books or Kindles or a computer, as long as they get the info. Heck, even listening to books! When I'm cleaning or doing homework, I put on an audiobook in the background!

I can't tell you how fast I read, but I can tell you I inherited my sister's love of books. She read the entire Harry Potter series in a weekend. But if I'm really into a book, I can read very quickly. I read about half of Fallout: Equestria on a smartphone in a day.

And I love reading; always have. They tested me in fifth grade and I was reading at a college level.

Ive gotten in trouble for reading when i should be doing other things.

I read my first story at age 4.

Bince then its been book after book after book. many of my titles are historical and are about something that, if you look at whats Bordering the center image of my signature, i need not explain.

Ive had to be told to slow down when reading to my class and to others.But for me, slowing down is out of the question.

I read at a decent speed, however I don't process the information in the books into my mind as quickly and requires me to re-read the same text time after time again until I understand it.

I'm a very quick reader: I've been addicted to books since I was a kid. My mother actually tried to discourage me from reading because I wouldn't do anything else.

 

Nowadays I find schoolwork and the Internet consuming much of my time, but I still borrow a book every now and again from the library. Sometimes I just devour a book in one sitting, but usually I read during breaks at school. It's not like I have anything better to do anyway.

 

I now read more and more in English as opposed to my native language, Finnish. That still slows me down a tad, but it's worth it.

I can read at over 1000 WPM. As a speed reader, I don't subvocalize (i.e. pronounce the words) as I read. That speeds things up dramatically.

 

Speed reading only really useful for reading non-fiction, since it detaches you from the reading experience. If you're like me and just want the information, however, then it's a great skill to have.

I'm not even certain, as I never have a good grasp on how good I am at something compared to others, but I feel that I'm at least pretty fast, considering that I've been reading the Wheel of Time series, and finished each 700-800 page book in 3 days at most.

I have alot of trouble reading, it took me 8 hours to read the first book of the deltora quest series. My brain gets side tracked very easily and i find it hard to read, but that's to do with how my brain is wired, as such i don't often read novels, i do however love manga and other comics, them i have no trouble reading.

for me it depends on how good the book is.

if i rely enjoy the book, i read it slow and take it all in and picture it in my head, other time i can wiz though it (mainly with fan fics because i don't like reading from a screen.)

It depends on how into the book I am. I mean if I don't like it it usually takes longer for me to read. When I do like it however it's not uncommon for me to finish a 600 page book in one night.

I am a very quick reader, but it's not like to the point where it looks like I'm skimming the page. If I'm reading a book that fascinates me, I generally slow down and pace myself.

Depends on the book. If it's exciting fiction, like fantasy, then I'll probably read faster than when I read a textbook. But I'd say at least 100 pages an hour for the standard fiction read.

Depends on what it is. I'm capable of reading very quickly. If I'm reading some instructions or something I'll go as fast as possible. If it's a book, I'll slow down tremendously, adding inflection to dialogue. Savoring all the nuances, so to speak. Books are much more enjoyable that way.

I used to read a lot more, as in volume of books not diction/length of books. Most books that I read, however, I take about an evening or two to read, and the length is usually around 600-700 pages. Think "Dies the Fire" by S.M. Stirling

I read fairly quickly, depends on what I'm reading. As for the second reason, I only like to read books that I like. If I'm 50 pages in on a book, and I don't like it, I'm not going to continue reading it.

I took a test a few weeks ago and got about 1500-2000 words a minute.

I read very, very quickly, and I can comprehend a lot just from scanning something.

My parents used to have to tell me to stop reading, and to punish me they take away my books XD

I'm on a Palahniuk craze right now, and in a day I read almost all of his books *laughs*

That was in an (approximate) ten hour period.

And when A Dance With Dragons came out I waited in line and then read it in four hours *squee*
