Misterian 118 February 1, 2013 Share February 1, 2013 Okay, for those that don't know, Head-canon is a term where fans fill in certain blanks in a story's canon. though this TV Tropes article probubly explains it better: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Fanon?from=Main.HeadCanon but anyway, does anyone here have any head-canon theories or ideas they'd like to share. I'll bring up my foremost one in that Ilike to believe that Equestrians live radically longer than humans. Consider how for example Ponyville has been around for centuries, yet Granny Smith herself said she was there went the town was getting started. Some people I know think of this as a continuity error, but I think my theory is abit more interesting. Why don't we ever see humans in Equestria? they're hiding, the ponies stole all their clothes. Rainbow Dash 1,472 February 1, 2013 Share February 1, 2013 i have several actually (although a vast amount of them are about background ponies) cause i have alot of alone time apparently. you and i have the same theory about the pony lifespan. (im totally blanking now arrgh!) For why spike was hatched and raised by twilight i like to think that Spike's original parents died near Celestia and they wanted her to make sure their baby egg was raised by a responsible party. fast forward to when twilight gets enrolled in Celestias school Celestia sensed Twilights magical energy and felt like Twilight would be a perfect mother figure. I can't recall if Zecora explained why she was in the everfree forest( i know it has something to do with her love for potion making) but i like to think that she was exiled for doing forbidden or taboo potion making until she proves herself to be worthy of returning. Luna wasnt there for the season finale even though the Kingdom was in trouble. Some say she was sleeping. I like to think that she was either fighting off the minions in another way or trying to figure out how to counter-act the changelings effects.Twilight's brother, Shining Armor, was introduced as a way to push more toys. i like to think that due to Shining Armor's position in the guard made Twilight a target if any evil creature found out their relationship to each other so both He and Celestia told Twilight to always keep it a secret. Seeing as how Twilight announced her brother was head captian means that she is strong enough in the magic sense to drop her guard when it comes to that matter.Cadance is hard to explain. i have the theory were Cadence's magic could be used for evil so everyone kept secret about it until the time was right. Veylon 255 February 2, 2013 Share February 2, 2013 I've got a few... Celestia and Luna are/were the embodiment of the spells of raising the sun and moon. Luna created Nightmare as a confidant/guardian/enforcer but things got out of control. Zecora's parents are fully integrated first-generation immigrants living in Manehattan as shipping magnates. She, however, desires to connect to Zebra culture and is studying the Everfree so that she'll have something to contribute to their traditional knowledge. Cadance is a mutant and related to Blueblood. Both Blueblood and Cadance inherit their royalness from Princess Platinum. Spike's egg was found abandoned, Celestia tried to find whoever it came from, but was unsuccessful. The "Hatch the Egg" test was meant to be a Kobiyashi Maru scenario where the student was judged on creativity under pressure rather than success; this was done after all previous efforts at hatching failed. Nobody realized that fake-Cadance was a fake because the real Cadance was already acting poorly and Chrysalis just imitated her. Celestia lost the fight with Chrysalis because the shield was blocking her off from the sun. Also, she was reckless. Luna's change in appearance from Season 1 to 2 was due to her regaining her powers from an off-screen confrontation with Nightmare Moon. The bat-ponies are a pegasus sub-type.
Fluttermena 1,223 February 2, 2013 Share February 2, 2013 I have so much fanon I don't even know where to start... - There are several Draconequi of varying power, Discord is the second most powerful. The most powerful one is Harmony, but he can't use his power in the mortal world like Discord does (destruction and chaos is easier than creation). He created the Elements to be used by worthy ponies to channel his power into the world. - There were 3 Alicorn sisters, the third one was the eldest and the Crystal Queen, mother of Cadance. - Changelings can survive on normal love, but the Queens make them belive that they have to feed by force so they can control them. They can also channel the power of love, like Candance and Shining Armor did, if there are enough of them toghether. Every thousand years, the Changelings find a land that has a lot of love and launch a massive raid to replenish their food reserves, which leaves the area loveless and vulnerable to other dangers. - The Changelings raided the Crystal Empire a thousand years ago, killing Cadance's mother, who put her daugther in hibernation to keep her safe. The attack left the Empire vulnerable and Sombra took advantage of the situation to usurp power. Celestia woke up Cadance only a few years before Twilight was born, which explains why she only grew up recently despite being Celestia and Luna's niece. - The absence of the Crystal Empire left Luna vulnerable to corruption, and she turned into Nightmare Moon. She used a spell to transform her royal guard into the bat-pegasi who were exiled on the moon along with Luna. Luna has a castle on the moon and the Night Guard have lived there for the past thousand years until Luna's redemption. - The mane 6 are actually the real descendants of the ponies they played in the Hearth's Warming play. - Earth ponies, being tougher and more resilient than other races, have a longer lifespan. - Dragons are immortal, but only grow up with greed, so if a dragon lives without being greedy, they will spend their life looking like a baby. - Pinkie Sense is the result of a spell that affected one of Pinkie's ancestors, and was passed down to her. - Luna was simply sleeping during the Changeling invasion. Celestia and Luna have their shifts, which also means that Celestia has been working nights for the last thousand years... - "Luna Eclipsed" happened much earlier in the show, not very long after the pilot, which explains why she still hadn't adjusted to the world. - Canterlot isn't just a high-class city, it has a lot of different districts and cultures. - Vinyl Scratch and Octavia don't really know each other in person. At best they're rivals, and they sometimes clash due to their classy vs. club personalites. - Angel is only pretending to be mean, he's actually trying to teach ponies a lesson as best he can, like forcing Fluttershy to stand up to him or teaching Spike not to be so greedy. That's enough for now, it's too bad I'm not good at writing, because there's a lot of fanfic material in there.
GoldenShield 46 February 3, 2013 Share February 3, 2013 Here's my giant one, I was going to write a fanfic on it in the style of a double episode but I'm not sure if I still will so I'll just put it here - Long ago there was a very powerful Unicorn princess with sky blue hair who led her subjects. To protect their home from evil this princess created the Crystal Heart, she lived for some time, benevolently governing her subjects until she fell in love with a charming and powerful Unicorn named Sombra. The two were to get married but the princess was betrayed by the one she thought loved her, Sombra corrupted the Crystal Heart and conquered the Crystal Kingdom on the very day that he was to marry the princess. The Crystal Princess barely escaped the conquest with a small number of her subjects, heartbroken and homeless, the princess and her remaining subjects fled and spent some time wandering the land. The Princess's heart could not be mended and her pain was absolute, in her sorrow the Crystal Princess used her power to cast a spell on herself and her subjects, removing their ability to love and erasing her subjects memories so that they would never be hurt like this again. In this process the Crystal Princess became Queen Chrysalis and her subjects became the changelings, because they could no longer love, the changelings now had to drain the love from others to sustain their power...
Misterian 118 February 3, 2013 Share February 3, 2013 - Dragons are immortal, but only grow up with greed, so if a dragon lives without being greedy, they will spend their life looking like a baby. I personally had a somewhat different head-canon where Dragons age faster when their greed is consistantly indulged throughout their lives, their their livespan actually slightly below that of humans. 'Virtuous' dragons, like Spike however, who live their lives with their greeds consistantly in check age alot slower, and actually would live a radically longer livespan on par with, or perhaps even surpassing that of Equestrians (with Spike possibly already out-living at least some 'Greedy' dragons in his life) I also have the head-canon thought that there's a legend that 'Virtuous' Dragons are actually very numerous and have their own thriving civilization considered more advanced and enlightened than even contemporary Equestria. But the location of this Virtuous Dragon nation (if it even exists) remains a mystery. But there are theories among Equestrian scholars that Virtuous Dragons would delibrately keep their existance a secret to protect themselves from the violent Greedy Dragons who might attack them for their abundance of resources. Why don't we ever see humans in Equestria? they're hiding, the ponies stole all their clothes.
Harmonic Revelations 8,835 February 3, 2013 Share February 3, 2013 Alright, so here is my head canon. I dug up a picture of it from a long time ago, it's been in my family for generations, you know? My head canon says that Alicorns are immortal and omnipotent.
Rolls Royce 606 February 3, 2013 Share February 3, 2013 The only two big fanon things that I have are... 1. I believe that there is an Equestrian version of the city of Miami, which I call Mareami. I think of this because I've never seen a true tropical city in Equestria, I think the closest things are Las Pegasus and Applewood. Also, I've always wanted to live in Miami. Sure, I know it isn't on the canon map of Equestria, but I still believe in and talk about my fictional tropical city of Mareami. 2. There are motorcars in Equestria, but can only be afforded by the richest of the rich, with the cheapest ones costing about 200,000 bits. It's been shown that they have the technology to built a motorized vehicle, but they haven't had their version of Henry Ford yet, so cars haven't been able to become affordable to everyone. Just imagine it like the time before the Model T, but with more modern, up to date cars. Misterian 118 February 14, 2013 Share February 14, 2013 I also have the head-canon thought that adoption is actually a popular practice among Equestrian ponies. Some reports among Equestrian reporters and surveyors suggests that many female Ponies that don't have any interest in persuing a relationship yet have a desire to raise children, though personal reasons for it tend to vary. Statistical surveys suggest that when adopting, an adult Pony would look for the youngest orphan availible, so any orphaned infant or toddler Ponies tend to be quickly adopted, sometimes just after being orphaned, though the frequency of adoptions makes orphans in Equestria exceptionally rare. Why don't we ever see humans in Equestria? they're hiding, the ponies stole all their clothes.
Zygen 6,066 February 14, 2013 Share February 14, 2013 Um. Theres quite alot of things I could consider my head cannon. I don't think I can name them all . -For one, I think that 1000 years prior to when MLP takes place Celestia and Luna take on Discord, and defeat him, then they do the same to try and save the crystal empire, but they fail because Sombre puts a curse on the empire, Luna then begins to study dark magic and also becomes jealous and then eventually her heart is consumed by it and shes banished by Celestia. -I think Scootaloo is an orphan, it just makes sense to me. -Dark magic has corrupting powers(Seems pretty obvious to me, but still.) -I don't believe Celestia is immortal, I just believe that Alicorns live a very long time. Compared to regular ponies. I'm gonna stop here, mostly because I can't think of anything else at the moment. Its a little harder to think of topics I have head-cannon for though. To be honest most of my Head cannon is just fannon. I didn't really come up with most of it, I just kinda accepted it as it made sense. 1 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Misterian 118 February 20, 2013 Share February 20, 2013 If the Mane 6 and Spike lived in the Elder Scrolls universe, these are the following races and skills they'd have (for sake of this list I'll use the Oblivion customization options) Twilight Sparkle- Imperial with all Magic-based skills Applejack- Nord who specializes in blunt weapons (axes to be exact), heavy armor, and athletics. Rainbow Dash- a Dunmer (or Dark Elf) who specializes in light armor, blade weapons, acrobatics, and archery. Rarity- an Altmer (or High Elf) who specializes in hand-to-hand, Illusion magic, lockpicking, sneaking, and mercantile. Pinkie Pie- a Nord or Khajiit who specializes in speechcraft, blunt weapons (maces and warhammers), light armor, and arcobatics. Fluttershy- a Bosmer (or Wood Elf) who specializes in all non-combat skills. Spike- an Argonian who specializes in blade weapons, Destruction and Alteration magic, and Heavy Armor. in a more in-universe note: -Celestia and Luna are actually the only immortal Alicorns in existance, and have accomplished this through years of extensive and complicated arcane modification (hope this will helpsome people deal with Alicorn Twilight) -Scootaloo's special talent will involve manuverability and when she becomes able to fly, where she'd lack Rainbow Dash's speed and endurance, Scootaloo will greatly surpass all pegasi in the use of incredible flexibility and manuverablity in flight, allowing her to do various tricks that not even the best Wonderbolts are able to match. Why don't we ever see humans in Equestria? they're hiding, the ponies stole all their clothes.

Megas 27,625 March 7, 2013 Share March 7, 2013 (edited) I've only developed headcanons for the mane characters that have little to no family revealed - Scootaloo actually has parents, but her father is in the Guard(or whatever military they have) and her mother is usually at work, which explains why they're never around. And they're both earth ponies - Fluttershy is part of a rather large family(probably 6-8 kids). Something like this may explain why she's so shy, perhaps she never developed enough self-esteem? I dunno I never got up to thinking about it that - Rainbow Dash has a single parent with her father, which potentially explains why she acts like she does. Her mother died for reasons I haven't come up with yet(died of illness/childbirth/accident/etc.) -Applejack's parents are dead(they said it was hinted in Apple Family Reunion, but until there's full confirmation, it'll stay as headcanon) Oh, and the fanfic "No Hard Feelings" Totally happened Edited May 19, 2013 by Megas75
Shift 4,272 March 7, 2013 Share March 7, 2013 (edited) My Headcanon Universe Princess Celestia and Discord did have a 'thing' in the past. Pinkie Pie is an Arcpony, a pony that can see into the future. Fluttershy is an Eraterus, a pegasus pony who is basically an earth pony with wings and pegasus/earth pony magic. The events of 'Fallout: Equestria' happen 10 years after the events of the show. Griffons and Zebras are currently in a war. Terra and Titan are Celestia and Luna's mother and father. Lyra and Bon Bon are currently dating and roommates. Vinyl and Octavia and also dating and roommates. The events of 'My Roommate is a Vampire' is canon. Dash Academy happened. Doctor Whooves is a Time Lord. Derpy is Doctor's partner, and Colgate is Whooves assistant. Edited May 16, 2013 by Jolteon Have the courage to think and act on your own. Phoenix237 353 March 7, 2013 Share March 7, 2013 Here are some theories I have developed by myself: -Fluttershy has earth pony relatives. I don't mean that her parents are earth ponies, I'm saying that she has earth ponie relatives in her family tree. First of the episode "Baby Cakes" reveled that an earth pony can have children that are unicorns or pegasi as long as the gene is in the family history. Well don't you find it suspesious that Fluttershy likes to stay on the ground. Yes she was a weak flyer, but why is that? Maybe the Pegasus gene wasn't passed well and she was weak and maybe still is a bit. It would explaine why she is so comfortable on the ground, because she has earth pony qualities in her. -Rainbow grew up with only a father. If she was raised by only her father it may explaine her personality. -Celestia and Luna where not present during the creation of Equestria and most likely appeared after the creation of that nation. -Queen Crystalist is a corrupt version of the queen from the crystal empire. She an her subjects used to spread love to others, but when King Sombra took over the crystal empire he corrupted her and her royal army (which is why they where defenseless) and turned them to changelings. -Celestia is hiding something that will be huge in the future.
TailsIsNotAlone 3,695 March 7, 2013 Share March 7, 2013 My headcanon, updated for post-Season 3! *The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well and Magical Mystery Cure never happened. *Derpy is named Ditzy and she's not mentally impaired. She's just a klutz who delivers mail. *Equestria is roughly the size of Greenland and one of few large continents on a small, isolated planet called Equus (not that the planet needs a name). *Equus has a lot of turbulent weather and dangerous storms, necessitating weather control by the pegasi and manual changing of the seasons by all the ponies (Winter Wrap-Up, Fall Weather Friends) while the most powerful alicorns (currently Celestia and Luna) control the sun and moon. *All kinds of ponies have some form of magic. The earth and pegasus ponies' magic is just more subtle, allowing them to pull off physical feats that unicorns can't. *There is a lot more to the Nightmare Moon story than Celestia tells us, or anypony else. Luna herself doesn't remember the specifics. *Alicorns are born, not made, and they live several thousand years. If they are killed, their spirits simply regain strength until they can physically return. However, this is a stressful affair that gradually taxes their sanity. (Luna has been killed a few times. Celestia has lost count.) Alicorns consist of one family tree, but even that is growing thin. *Earth ponies live the longest, about 120 years (just because all the old ponies I remember seeing are earth ones xD). Unicorns and pegasi live 80-100. But ponies don't think about age the way we do. First you're a foal, then a filly/colt, then a mare/stallion. Their sense of time is more vague and flexible than ours, especially for alicorns, who live so long they have trouble with the concept of years. When Celestia says "a thousand years ago," that's an expression. xD *There's something wrong with Cheerilee. I'm not sure what it is yet. For some reason I don't feel like she enjoys her job as much as she should. *Pinkie Pie has a crush on Rainbow Dash. "Human beings fascinate me Being just the way they are..." An Old Head 4,816 March 7, 2013 Share March 7, 2013 (edited) Now that I think about it, I buy into the show's fundamentals too much. There's only been two things I've considered to be possible canon outside of what's already been established. The first head canon idea that I do have is that Twilight's parents are no longer around This headcanon is now null, apparently I missed their cameo in Magical Mystery Cure The second one I have is that Pinkie Pie is half-unicorn. Yes, it sounds ridiculous, but think about it - while Earth ponies are known for their strength and have their own type of magic, that magic only applies to planting food as told in the Hearth Warming's Eve production. Pinkie Pie can see the immediate future, she has an Eidetic memory, and she can break the laws of physics. Unicorns have confirmed time magic (S2E20), they have superior intelligence, and S2E02 proved levitation in itself to be possible - it corresponds to the principle talents of Pinkie. She also knows a lot about magical elements - she knows the Mirror Pool chant, she has a knack of coming right across magical books, and she's clearly knowledgeable about magical creatures such as parasprites. I don't think Pinkie Pie does this merely to be the "stick her in when you need something impossible done" pony in the show, I think there's a bit of unicorn in her. It fits. Bucky McGillyCuddy 956 March 7, 2013 Share March 7, 2013 I thought about this today actually it's the only head canon i have. Applejacks mother died of illness and her father died in an accident on the farm. The last time Applejack saw her father was when he was in hospital from the accident. His lasts words to her were about how proud he and her mother were of her and that she had to take care of granny smith and Applebloom while they are gone. Heck. I'll promise right here right now to the fandom, that if we don't get closure on the Apple parents i'll animate a short of that head canon myself -_-. If you'd be so kind as to check out some of my drawings, I would really appreciate feedback. http://mlpforums.com/topic/82464-feedback-is-magic/?hl=feedback+is+magic#entry2127254 http://mlpforums.com/topic/82871-what-happens-when-a-pony-fights-a-griffin/?p=2178588
Twinhead B 482 March 7, 2013 Share March 7, 2013 (edited) Headcanon discussions? Oh, how fun! - Pinkie Pie is heaviest pony in Equestria, but does not look it simply because she is very dense (similar to a white dwarf star). - Celestia and Luna are not hundreds of years apart in age, but really only a year or two apart. Being banished in the moon stopped Luna from physically aging, making her biologically (but not chronologically) 1000 years younger than her sister. They are both more than 2500 years old. - If humanised, Fluttershy would be the tallest pony, standing at nearly 7 feet tall. Followed by Rarity at 6', Applejack at 5'8", Pinkie Pie at 5'5" and Twilight at 5'1". Rainbow Dash is the shortest at a meager 4'9" (to match her short temper). - Earth ponies are very industrious and natural born inventors. Nearly all of Equestria's technologies (Cameras, Film, Clocks etc.) were invented by Earth Ponies. I imagine a major Earth Pony city to be very steampunk in aesthetic. - The Mane 6 are not the only bearers of the Elements of Harmony other than Celestia and Luna; They are simply the most recent. The Elements attune themselves to new bearers after the previous bearer passes on. It is possible for each bearer to be a different age, gender, or race, and they can go their whole lives without knowledge of their abilities. The Mane 6 are the first "activated" bearers of the elements since the Royal Sisters. - Ascending to Alicornhood is achieved by attaining perfect balance with one or more Elements of Harmony. Celestia and Luna became Alicorns via the Elements of Harmony, and Cadance became one by achieving perfect balance with her special talent: spreading Love (sometimes referred to as the Seventh Element of Harmony). Twilight became one by becoming one with the element of Magic. It's possible for the rest of the Mane 6 to become Alicorns, but none of them have achieved such harmony with their element yet. - Being an Alicorn =/= Being A Princess. - It is possible for two mares to have a foal through the use of magic. It is also possible for a pony and a non-pony to have a foal, using the same method. - Applejack's parents were held up at horn-point, robbed and killed one night on their way home from the theatre. Applejack is the only member of the Mane 6 to continue being the Mysterious Mare-Do-Well after teaching Rainbow Dash her lesson. She's also terrified of musicals. - Rarity's accent is fake, as evidenced by the fact that neither Sweetie Belle, nor her parents have the same accent. Rarity's real accent is similar to a Wisconsin accent (like her parents), which she considers to be "unladylike". For some unknown reason, Sweetie Belle does not have an accent at all. I'd post more, but I'm all out of headcanons at the moment. Shanks 10,816 March 7, 2013 Share March 7, 2013 (edited) *Celestia and Luna are not immortal but are extremely long lived much like dragons not because they are alicorns but because of their control over the sun and moon *Big Macintosh has a crush on Twilight and I don't blame him for it one bit (smarty pants doll anyone?) And I am not saying this as a shipper either because I don't really involve or concern myself with any of that with the exception of reading the occasional ship fic or two. *Derpy is not retarded but is falsely perceived as being retarded due to her clumsy and child like nature. *There is much more to the story of Luna's transformation into Nightmare Moon than has been revealed so far. *Scootaloo is not an orphan but is an only child and is not very close to her parents. *Applejack has not fully come to terms with her parents deaths and sometimes buries herself in work on the farm to try to numb the pain and as a way to honor their memory. I think Applejack leaving for Manehatten in that one flashback scene on how she got her cutie mark was in large part due to this. *Rainbow Dash is a Daddy's filly Edited March 7, 2013 by EarthbendingProdigy 1 Rarity Get's Cockroaches

The second one I have is that Pinkie Pie is half-unicorn. They ain't dead. They were in "Magical Mystery Cure" at the coronation. And there is probably something special about Pinkie. If there weren't the instance of Twilight Sparkle having her mane get every bit as poofy as Pinkies with her horn still poking through, or flat-haired Pinkie, I would suggest that the art style of the show would hide a regular-sized horn under her poofy mane. Although I don't really reckon if being "half of a pony race" is a thing, other than having carrier genes to pass on to offspring.
