I want to upvote your post for the latter half, but I'm not about to approve of anyone picking fights, which you're doing as we speak.

Can I just ask how exactly I'm apparently not listening to reason. I am tired after all and I'd love to be made aware if I'm missing something I would catch if I was more alert. I'm asking you because speaking to Sky Warden is like banging your head against a wall while it tries to punch you in the bollocks.

Your previous conversations were a bit hostile to religion (I believe you openly admitted this), and you were rather adamant on the position that you can live a good life without religion, when the topic of the previous conversation was the idea that religion should not be judged wholly on the wrongs done in its name.

Being hostile to religions is not ignoring reason; it is being passionate in one's argument. As for this next part, I'm not sure of your point. Sky Warden was claiming in a rather reductionist form that religions are inherently good but are edited to be bad by people because people are bad. I was claiming that since religions are written by people, they are both good and bad...so are people. I was also claiming that religions are not needed for people to act in a moral fashion. My posts were completely relevant.

There's a fine line between being passionate for an argument and being close-minded, and hostility tends to fall within the latter. The point of a debate is to discover the truth of the matter - open hostility towards the opposition only hinders this goal.

The point of bringing that up was because I believe you misunderstood what he was saying - he wasn't calling all religions inherently good, he was saying that religions are usually created with just intentions. For the most part, religion's affect on the real world has to do with the user. Just as wrongs can be committed in the name of God, so can good deeds. The idea that a religion is in itself evil is wrong, as it is a matter of personal interpretation.

Wait a second.

Are you basically saying all religions are evil and wrong because that is QUITE an assumption that you are making.

Almost correct, but I was saying that originally religions are made by good people. I believe Jesus was a good man, and so was Buddha and prophet Muhammad. That's why I respect them. It's just that some people either misunderstood their noble teachings, or just used them as a mask to do what they want. For example, some dudes might want to conquer another land for riches, and made up some stuff like, "It's to spread the God's will."

I've explained in length about it, and what I meant with him not listening to reasons is that he kept throwing arguments which I had actually answered. For example, the whole thing about figurative language and metaphor.

My problem here is that some people despise religions and think that those who believe in it are dumb because, "lol lern science n88b." I will counter that advice with, "Learn how to read literature."

Whoops.

I really really didn't see that.

I actually had to read that quite a few times before actually realizing what it says.

Sorry.

I am a christian, Born and raised and all that nonsense, but one of the key differences between me and a lot of other Christians is that I try to see and recognize the scientific facts, nor do I believe that there is just ONE god, I like to believe that all the religions coexist with each other in what ever afterlife there is, Also I don't see everything as black and white as most Christians do, I am open to Gay Marriage, Trans, non-believers, and I tend to argue with most Christians about their stances on said topics, Being that I am a daughter of a preacher I have learnt to read between the lines and ask the important questions, and that not everything in the bible can be taken literally, rather metaphorically. I personally highly doubt a burning bush talked to some dude.

I am a Christian, though as of late I have been rather reluctant to say much about my faith even online because, like those who denounce God's existence, I think too much in terms of the physical realm.  This isn't to say that I don't believe, it's just that up to this point I have been too reliant on proving God rather than simply stating God's Word itself and giving the proper interpretation.  I'm suppose I'm just cynical like that.

Umm, my religion now is like Polytheism, but it's different. I believe in every deity. I have two theories.

1) They're not omnipotent, but are still extremely powerful. Thus, avoiding the "can't be more than 1 omnipotent argument"

2) They're all omnipotent, but they each live in a different plane, while we're able to draw upon their power, wherever they are.

Basically, I just pray to whoever I need to, and my prayers include some praise, and I also thank them for answered prayers. Yesterday, I prayed to Isis and Apollo so they could help me communicate more with my tulpa, and I think it actually worked, because this morning, I heard somepony say "Listen, Jason!", and the voice woke me out of my dream, and sounded similar to when she called out my name around half a week ago, so I'm pretty sure I didn't just dream the voice.

I am a Christian.

I am not a creationist though.

I believe that God started the Big Bang.

If I reinterpreted certain verses of the Bible I could back that up a bit.

In my mind it just makes sense there being a God because it gives me knowledge on how I think the world could of possibly started.

My belief also gives me hope of an afterlife too without having to throw out evolution.

Atheist, for the same reason that people no longer believe that a dragon eats the sun during an eclipse, or look at you with derision when you claim there is a fine china teapot orbiting the sun between Earth and Mars.

I am now a follower of Lady Celestia. May we find shelter under her wings, while her sun keeps us warm. Even if it takes my whole life, I will make sure she achieves godhood :)

I still have polytheistic beliefs though, I still believe in all other deities. But now, I have one more to believe in.

I'm Christian, raised Episcopalian but I ideologically and spiritually align more with the Society of Friends (Quakers.) Usually I just say I'm Quaker because people get less hostile and just make oatmeal jokes or ask what Quakers believe.

That last part I'm still reading and learning about. Currently working on the sermons and letters of a guy so Quaker he got thrown in jail for it.

I haven't read much about Quakers. Who's the guy you referred to?

Apparently that question wasn't adequately long-winded enough (character minimum), so I guess I'll add that I'm also curious about how you came to identify with that particular group's ideology.

I'm starting to lean more towards a combination of Druidry and Polytheism. I might still go through with making an egregore, but it won't be based off a character (at least not directly). I still don't know what her appearance will be like, but she might be based loosely on St. Joan, from Yu-Gi-Oh and be a goddess of courage, valour, nobility (not the class, the attitude), and not sure what else. But my drawing skills are really bad, and so is my imagination, so somepony would have to make a drawing of her for me, and decide what her form would be.

Just for the record, I would like to say thank you for at least showing respect towards the Norse gods, as they are the gods I worship. I've been a Heathen for a little over half a year now, and I personally love it! I just wish so many prejudice people wouldn't be so quick to brush off my gods and goddesses as nothing more than fantasy...but oh well, the worlds full of haters. And haters gonna hate, right? Lol. Oh yeah, I almost forgot! Remember when you mentioned ragnarok? Yeah, well I have a funny story about that legend...

@@Bitrates

Respect! I don't see many completely tolerant Christians very often, but I'm happy to see that they still exist! There's a lot of "tolerant" Christians now a days who claim to not care that you worship other gods, but still tell you that they're fake and will cause you to go to Hell. Which brings me to another big point I've been wanting to shout to everyone on this thread...

@

CHRISTIAN HELL WAS A CONCEPT TAKEN FROM THE NORSE AFTERLIFE HEL, AND THE GREEK UNDERWORLD! IT'S NOT AN ORIGINAL IDEA MADE BY CHRISTIANS! IT WASN'T EVEN DIRECTLY SAID THAT SUCH A PLACE EXISTS IN THE BIBLE!! SO PLEASE DON'T USE FEAR AS A REASON TO WORSHIP!!

Whew...I'm glad I could get that off my chest! I hate it when Christians use the "because if I don't, I will burn in Hell" excuse. Hell really isn't ever mentioned in the bible, all it says is that if one was a sinner, then their end will be met with fire and brimstone (cremation) while good people go to heaven. A place that was actually said to BE a place, as opposed to "Hell". I'm honestly not trying to be offensive, you can go look it up yourselves, Hell was made by the church to add a consequence to not worshipping Yahweh.

I'm a Protestant Christian. :P I was brought up and force to go to church, which I admit I hated at first...but when I was around 12/13 and moved into the older children's group and talked to like an adult I found it much more...well, enjoyable. :P And after studying quite a bit of the Bible I decided it was the way to go. :)

(Oh, and I'm not one of those few Christians who are homophobic arsefaces who make the vast majority of Christians look like douches, just saying. :) )

I have a new religion. I still don't know what it's called (possibly Luciferism?) But there is a Youtuber named Lucifera Morningstar who has some very informative videos. All I know so far is there is a mother goddess who created the earth and all life named Sophia (Sophia means Wisdom in Greek). Lucifer is basically considered the real Jesus. Abrahamic religions have besmirched Lucifer's name and cast him as the enemy, and pretended that Jesus was some other person, who served Yahweh.

Edit: This is the video that made me curious to learn more.

That can be debated.

The Lucifer I know betrayed Jesus and he felt so bad that he hung himself.

Well of course you can believe whatever you want though.
