This is literally beating a dead horse. The gray pony isn't going to wake up so just get over it already. Why is it that the gray pony have to be referred to every single topic? Seriously?

There's a lot of things I wished would of happened in the cartoon too but I get over it. That's what everyone should just do.

How could we have set aside the past events...

Throwing them into a pit of shame, aside into the abyss...

It's true that it wasn't pretty.  A fight spread out amongst our fandom.  Maybe even friendships broken...

But we should no more look down upon this in sadness...

It's time to relight the lantern...

With a new mission...

A mission to mend the wounds...

A mission to show ourselves that we are capable of being okay with this...

It doesn't matter her name - call her Derpy Hooves, or call her Ditzy Doo...

There's no need for fighting anymore...

The Resurrection of Derpygate:

Mission "Heal the Wounds"

It's no longer about who was right and who was wrong.  It's about friendship.

So lay down your guns.

This Resurrection is not to start what once used to be a war.

It is to retire the war and re-establish Derpygate as something different.

No longer should it be negative.

This is your time to shine, and let's aim the light to our friendships.

 Derpygate... Part II.

The establishment of acceptance, and the renewal of honor.

The time is now.

Go.

The censoring of Derpy was one of the worst things the show's creators have ever done. The original Derpy was interesting, unique, and had a clumsy, yet sincere and charming voice that gave her a fun personality. Her censored counterpart had a stock, sarcastic voice, and "fixed" eyes which tells the viewer that there was something wrong with her before. Hasbro really let the viewers down by buying into the few complaints that they received about her "offensive" name and actions. There is and never was anything offensive about Derpy.

That being said, it is now 2015, and we'll soon be entering Season 5. Thankfully the aftermath of "Derpygate" hasn't resulted in the complete loss of her character. Would I like her to have another speaking role? Absolutely. And while she's seen less than before, she has had a few good moments since (especially in Rainbow Falls). With a background pony episode being confirmed, I hope we see her in the spotlight once more.

This thread is two years old, there is no need to reply to it

If you feel that way then there was no reason for you to make ^that post.  Leave it be to those who feel there is a need to reply to it.  If you had even took the time to read my post, you'd see that this resurrection serves a purpose.

It is to reunite people who used to argue about the issues involving Derpy.

It's just like the way Twilight realized that Maud did have something in common with them - they all loved Pinkie Pie.

Well think about it - the mere action of arguing about Derpy proves that she is loved.  Why let the arguments over whether or not Hasbro did the right thing get in the way of this shared common bond?  We all love Derpy, for one reason or another.

So, in bringing the thread back, we still want people to be able to voice their opinion on Derpygate, but we want to be able to spin negatives into positives.

Rivendare's post served to show the perfect example of how to do that:

A. Tell your honest opinion.

B. Show that you can still find the good in the bad.

C. Accept that even though we all have different opinions, that we all still love Derpy for one reason or another, and that shared common bond should be able to keep us together.

Apparently not since nobody replied to the thread for two years.

--- Yes, it is still discussed.  We are trying to make it easier to talk about for everyone... ---

There's no need to be afraid that your opinion might be provocative so long as you can show that you are willing to accept others opinions as being just as valid - and that what brings us together is the fact that we all love Derpy.

She isn't gone from the show.  So she should still be talked about.  But this thread is not meant to be the same kind of thread as Derpy's regular Fan Club thread.  Fan Club threads are not as focused.  They can be about anything involving the club's pony...

Therefore,

This thread has been evolved into:

The Resurrection of Derpygate: Mission "Heal the Wounds"

This thread serves to keep the focus on allowing people to continue voicing their opinions about Derpygate, without having to worry that it might become a debate.  This isn't meant for debates.  This is meant to show that we can all have our opinions about Derpy and Derpygate, and that we can accept that in the end because no matter how we felt about Derpygate, we all care about, and love Derpy.

I like Derpy. She is not a dumb, comedy relief character, but as a nice, likable character with a slight handicapped in the fandom, not a retard as many non-bronies think. We love Derpy because she is different and was created because of us bronies. We love her the way she is, as a kind pony that likes muffins and has derpy eyes.

Also, who ever voted for Derpy to change was probably confused and didn't know who she is to us.

Am I the only one that thinks that the creators of the show did the right thing?

It's easy for people like me who don't have problems with their eyes to say "This isn't offensive to me therefore it isn't offensive to anyone". A lot of people doesn't like it when someone jokes about their handicap.

Derpy means foolish or silly. If someone who has problem with their eyes get bullied at school or work because of their eyes, then coming home and see that a character that has the same problem is named foolish, isn't so fun.

A lot of people have told me that deepy is a role model for kids. All I will say about that is that just because a character has a handicap doesn't mean she/he is a role model

Who? I have a disability and I don't support Derpy. I'm indifferent. To me she's just a klutz with a funny voice who happens to be cross-eyed. I don't see anything about her to look up to, but she doesn't offend me either.

I missed the party on this, and nothing but the fan club came up when I searched for Derpy threads a few weeks ago.  (I guess if a thread hasn't been replied to for long enough, it doesn't show up in searches?  Idk.)  Anyway, I'm not going to go into a whole big thing, but I just wanted to throw my two cents in real quick.  I love Derpy, and didn't think she was offensive.  If you think Derpy's offensive, then why not so many other cartoon characters?  How about Ralph Wiggum?  How about Patrick Star?  How about f*ckin Snips and Snails?  How is Derpy offensive, but they are not?  They're f*ckin morons.  None of them are offensive, imo.  They're just cartoons.  Lighten up.  I mean, everything could be considered offensive to somebody.  Now, me, as a smart, nerdy, and very shy person, I am deeply offended by Twilight's depiction of nerds, and I am deeply offended by Fluttershy's depiction of people with social anxiety.  (Extreme sarcasm, there.)  The only way to make everybody happy is to put gorilla tape over their tv screens.  Better yet, put gorilla tape over their eyes.

The biggest issue for me is the fact that censoring Derpy did something far worse: it sent the message that if you are disabled, you don't belong.  No room in this show for anypony like you.  Only perfect ponies allowed here.  The censorship sent kids the message that if you are disabled, you need to be gotten rid of.  Instead of censoring her, they could have kept her the way she was, but bring her into the show as a permanent side character, like Zecora, and show her being accepted and loved despite her condition.  Hasbro missed the boat.  That's my opinion.  But at least she's back, to some extent.

This has probably been posted before, but this is the best and most accurate summary of the whole Derpy thing, ever.

That wasn't the show creators or even Hasbro's decision they were bullied into it so I am not mad at them but am plenty pissed at the parents who didn't bother to claim to speak for people in situations they know very little if anything about. There were very few disabled people who actually complained about Derpy, nearly all of the complaints was from parents. Yes, indeed a character being "different" dosen't and shouldn't automatically make them a role model but at the same time a character like Derpy has quite a bit of potential for that. And also it has never been confirmed one way or another that Derpy has any "handicap" aside from being clumsy and having walled eyes though fans have made their own various interpretations of her character.

Quite a few of them actually, I have said many times that I am on the Autism spectrum and do indeed support Derpy and am tired of these jackasses who claim to speak for people but don't even bother to listen to what they actually have to say such as what indeed happened in the case of Derpy. And I there are others I have heard who have said the same thing as well as a lot of people who are seen as different for various other reasons. For me I don't so much look up to her as I identify with her, I know exactly what it is like to be judged and singled out by others and it is indeed not a good feeling. If the people who complained simply made constructive suggestions instead of "off with her head" I and many other fans wouldn't hate and resent them so much and maybe just maybe there could be some reasonable compromise. I didn't want a conflict like this but they apparently did which is a real shame.

I find this funny.  When i was growing up, the "girly" (yes MLP is girly) shows i watched was Powerpuff Girls, and the likes.

The PPG kicked soo much ass it wouldnt be able to pass nowadays, also there were many characters that were "special" in the PPG.

Parents didnt make a big fuss over that.

The complant should be more like why do parents always want to find something stupid to argue about nowadays.

Im 22 and the only things that really offend me thats on tv is when someone Disses Religion, our troops (Not the military), and emphasizing on pointless topics over Important stuff.

I think you could easily make the same argument that the same people who think Derpy is a stereotype also think that 'mentally challenged' people should never be represented in children's media, like the children should never be exposed to them.

The only way I see Derpy as 'challenged' is having a vision problem.

So if I created a children's show and had 'normal' and 'mentally challenged' children guests on the show the parents would complain because i showed mentally challenged children?

Im trying to make a point.  I agree with what you said.  For the most part.

I don't believe she's mentally challenged. She's physically challenged. Her eye being off has major effects on her hand eye coordination and she can't help but bump into things. She doesn't understand why though because from her view it should of been fine. She honestly doesn't know what went wrong.

Well, I wasn't around for the Derpy controversy, I only started watching the show a few months back.

Looking at this as a bit of an outsider It seems to me Hasbro has more or less learned their lesson. The fans voiced their opinion and Derpy was brought back. And, if Rainbow Rocks is any indication, we can expect to continue to see more of Derpy in the future.

Will she ever get another talking line? I don't know. But I do know that Vinyl has never spoken and she is still nearly as popular as Derpy. If she never speaks again it will not diminish her as an interesting character.

I predict a brighter future for that silly grey filly.

I am sure Derpy will be in the background though I would be very surprised if she got another speaking role even in the 100th episode.
