How does this Double Standard make you bronys feel?

The Fact that Females are allowed to watch whatever show theywant no matter if its a girl or boy show. But us bronys Are downplayed by society just due to the fact that MLP is aimed at little girls no matter how good the Show Is?

To be honest, I feel like I have no place getting angry about this, because I used to be just like this. I used to think that anything intended for girls or young children was stupid. I even still do this sometimes, until I realize what I'm doing and stop myself. 

 

One of the many things My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has done for me is to teach me to not judge people based on their media tastes. It's taught me to stop gender stereotyping, too. I've also become fully tolerant of homosexuality, when I used to think there was something wrong with it. 

 

In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with boys liking things made for girls, and vice versa. Each and every person is an individual. It's not like we're all made in an assembly line at some factory, where boys and girls have to say, do, and like certain things, independent of each other. If what you think, like, say, do, etc does not harm yourself or anyone else, then there's nothing wrong with it, no matter what society says.

People like what they like. I like what I like. People aren't going to tell me what I like. If that were the case I would never watch WWE wrestling or MLP or Doctor Who or (insert show here). 

 

As long as you're not overzealous in your appreciation of MLP and pushing it in everyone's face, then there shouldn't be much of a problem. Moderation is one of the many keys to life.

There are no shows for boys and no shows for girls; only shows DIRECTED at them. Boys and girls are mentally conditioned to like certain things pretty much all their lives. Boys are cast on the packages of things like skateboards and gaming consoles, while girls are cast on the packages of dolls and cooking sets, with respective blues and pinks. Gender roles are just something people use to usurp a little more control over the general public. It shouldn't matter what we watch if we enjoy watching it, but the mental conditioning says otherwise, and that's where the conflict lies. 

 

I'm not too bothered by the double standard, though. I watch what I want to watch. I'll worry about being judged when other people worry about how judging others makes them feel.

This is all part of the common practice of 'gender segregation'. Men are expected to be tough and insensitive, because biologically we are the stronger of the genders. This is a stupid practice that became irrelevant with modern society.

 

It just makes me glad that groups like Bronies are moving more towards individuality rather than gender roles.

Actually to be honest I don't think that's true at all. I read some book about this a few months ago that I unfortunately can't remember the name of, but this group of people actually had evidence that proved that essentially all gender differences are actually culturally related including psychological differences and the whole "boys are stronger than girls" thing.

 

Personally I don't care at all because most stereotypes in general are not only false but out of date. Not to mention that I'm already a huge dork, so nobody gives me any grief when I tell them "oh I watch my little pony hurrr"

I am disgusted by this double standard; whilst I am not in the target audience for the show as I am not a child, I would probably recieve less discrimination than a male for liking it. But Laruen Faust makes it very clear that MLP: FIM is a show for all the family to enjoy and that includes grown up males and females. If you weren’t thought about while the production team plotted out their target audience, then I guess all those booze jokes, adult movie references (The Big Lebowski) and mature themes were for nothing. Despite this, I agree with your point, although I wouldn’t call people questioning bronies “sick and wrong”. It’s good to question things. For all the general public know, bronies are sick and wrong. The problem is some people just assume this and don’t look into it any further and that’s the major problem here.

I get torn up over this. I actually learned that there is a difference between general racism and sexism and Institutionalized racism and sexism. If you only acknowledge the latter, it is impossible for a white male to be discriminated against in either form. But in general it is still the whole idea that being a girl is disgusting so no male should do it, thus offending both the enjoyer of the show and all females. I think the double standard will honestly end soon but it has to be bred out in the next generation or two. I mean, it's totally cool to like TMNT today, so at least we've crossed the little kiddie gap. Not the questioning, the outright discrimination and hatred male fans can recieve is sick and wrong. I actually agree with all of what you said.

 

I think the more adult references are so that adults who watch it have something to giggle at beyond pink and rainbows. I think the intended audience has always been children, but older humour and references have been snuck in there, probably for older siblings and parents who put it on and watch it with their children. Those references are probably why it caught on so damn well and I'm glad they're there. I think it's no doubt though that we weren't the intended target audience, just a happy byproduct of a bucking great show.

Honestly, I feel like this double standard is starting to die down. I feel like people are realized that stereotypes against men is still Sexism. I haven't heard much discrimination against Bronies lately, unless it's from trolls or something. I think society has either realized that it isn't a big deal, or gotten the hell over it.

You are absolutely right. Parents were just brought into consideration and that’s all I wanted to address. And I believe as long as bronies play their cards right and actually explain why they like the show and not just yell “I LIKE A SHOW FOR LITTLE GIRLS!” then the hate levels shouldn’t be too high. And thanks for caring about the hate on us guys as well. All genders are equal indeed.
