Well, the same guy posted here in the episode thread and on Equestria Daily. And people wonder why sometimes Rarity fans lash out at these people... :okiedokielokie:

 

Rarity just can't win for some people. If she had refused to help Sweetie, that same guy would have said that she is a bitch for not helping her little sister. If she just had improved some little things like this guy says she should have, check the seams and buttons, the dresses would have still looked terrible and Belle would have been a laughing stock. Would have been Rares fault too, clearly.

Rarity did what she did to help her sister. Sweets asked her for her help and was then nowhere to be seen to give Rarity instructions on HOW to make them better. She just gave Rarity her dresses and basically said to make them better, and she did just that. The dresses where such a mess that she couldn't really do much other than give them her own spin... Sweets first draft just had no concept to them, they where rags. I don't know what that guys problem is...

 

And if Sweets wanted to make everything herself so badly, why ask Rarity for help in the first place? Why let the dresses at her place for her to fix them? Why not just ask for suggestions and make the changes herself?

Rarity is a perfectionist, she does not fix things "a little bit".

 

And if I recall correctly, Scootaloo and Applebloom told Sweetie just before the play they had asked her to get Rarity's help with dresses weeks ago, implying that even THEY wanted Rarity to make the dresses. Sweetie Belle chose not to listen to her friends and made the dresses herself. So Rarity in NO way can be at fault here.

Just one thing, why does Rarity wear old women's glasses?

 

Old women's glasses?*cries* They are called cat eye glasses and having a red pair gives off a classy but flirty look.  I have a pair A lot like Rarity's their so stylish and fun very 1950s!

 

but real old ladies glasses aren't so bad either. I'm starting to see those big 80s circular ones all over New York.

 

 

but on the topic that I unfashionable to talk about is The Rarity hate. At first I always wonder why Rarity gets so much flack for her actions then a lot of other characters, and I wonder if someone can way in on this topic. See My Little Pony is the first series I have ever gotten into that has a huge male fan base. Where as other shows I watch characters like Rarity are the most popular like Blair from The Facts of Life or Suzanne from Designing Women for example and those shows have mostly a female fan base.  and I have noticed (not all I'm sure there are girls who hate her to) a lot of female fans seem to have Rarity as their favorite or Applejack for that matter and if not they are close up on their favorites list.

I often chalk Rarity hate up to two reasons; they don't truly watch the show or they just need something to hate and need an easy target.

 

If they truly gave her character, and the show for that matter, a fair chance and watched the show itself instead of the screen it's on, they'd see that she's a genuinely good-hearted mare, breaking the negative stereotype that her character arc often bears

 

Rarity hate is some of the most unfounded opinions in the whole fandom. The mane 6 all have hearts of pure gold, contrary to popular belief

 

That's why defending her isn't extremely difficult; because the person attacking her is always wrong

I would love to answer this question for you... but... I just don't know. I can only speculate that many people see Rarity as that bitchy, manipulative, popular girl in school cliché, even though she clearly is not. I think that could be a lot of it. I LOVE strong, successful, independant women and wouldn't want anything else, yet I notice that that type of woman really bothers a lot of guys which is quite sad. I don't know why, wouldn't a man want that kind of woman? She doesn't have to be as fancy as Rarity, but I don't understand why so many guys (and I say that as a guy) have an issue with such. Personally, I don't care how pretty a woman is, if she at all acts childish or immature it's an instant turn off for me. Come to think of it, quite a few women I am friends with and get along well with are much like Rarity, in their attitude, demeanor, and even dress. Hmm....

 

EDIT: Also, while indeed she is quite prissy and does have a somewhat "popular girl in school cliche" she is nowhere NEAR as bad as the way most other females are portrayed in media. There are some that are indeed VERY annoying and not even I would want to meet them, but I think Rarity has a good balance and a good heart and while she does have her "moments" they really aren't that common and so long as you are nice/kind etc. she is too.

Rarity is best pony, and even though we have one of the smaller fanbases, I honestly don't think there's a more dedicated fanbase than us Rarity fans Look at us; we're up 500 replies on the second biggest fanbase

 

Quality over quantity, my friend, and it'd be a challenge to find a Rarity fan that isn't of quality

Rarity and AJ fans have great relations, from what I see It's nice to see our best ponies rise out of the cellar together They're sorta our allies.

 

Hell, I bet a lot of people don't even know this, but I've defended AJ a few times, and I've seen a few AJ fans defend Rarity as well

 

Overall, though, I'd say that Rarity is at LEAST in the 4th most popular slot after this season so far Fluttershy has taken a huge hit, from what I see. I'd honestly put her in 6th place at this point, especially since she's been the one to replace Rarity as the fandom's punching bag this season -_-

I don't think that after they ignored Raritys good side for three seasons that they will question themselves and think more highly of her just because of two episodes. I can totally understand your frustration.

 

It may feel that way at times, but believe me, the majority of the fandom doesn't hate Rarity The majority of the fandom likes Rarity, she's just got one of the smaller fan bases in terms of best pony, that's all

 

Her haters are quite a vocal group, but you also should take into consideration how much sense it makes. Are they right? No, they're not. They usually never are, as is the case with hate of any mane 6 pony The few times they are right, and I mean the FEW times, it's something she did wrong but can easily be negated with all of the right she's done The good she's done vastly outweighs the bad

 

I can understand why you're so upset, though, and why you feel this way; it sucks having to see. We all hate coming across it, I promise that. 

 

Just take a deep breath and ask yourself if the majority of the people in the fandom hate Rarity, because if you look around, the majority of the fandom is positive towards her

Just saw When the Sweetie Belle Toils earlier this evening.  I'm not super wowed by the episode on the whole, but I do love that yet again, this is a season 4 episode where Rarity comes off smelling like roses.  Who could find anything she did that was wrong in that episode?  I mean, she had a very important, very demanding work order to finish that evening, and even then she bends over backwards to help fix Sweetie Belle's costumes.  The only thing she did "wrong" was that she did too good a job on them.  What kind of message would it have been if she didn't?  When you want to help someone, only do a half assed job because you don't want to risk upstaging them?

And yeahh; some dude ran in and compared Rarity to Suri because of Rarity "improving" SB's dresses, and he was just claiming she stole them and passed them off as her own.
