They are! And a relationship between the two makes sense in my book! They are both very different, but at their core there are many things that connect them!

How exactly did they get in a relationship?

Well, in the show they didn't of course, its all headcanon.

 

But not only do they fulfill the classical romantic trope of opposites attract, the gorgeous, fancy one falling in love with the down to earth cowpony, but they also have more in common than one can see at the first glance!

Both are loving and caring big sisters, that care much for their little ones, and also care much for their friends and family. Both are very strong and hard workers, that would never deliver inferior work, and both take great pride into their respective crafts.

Im pretty certain that they have a healthy respect for each others passion and hard working attitude, even though they dont really understand the appeal of each others passions (or maybe they do and just dont want to admit it yet?).

 

After all, both did kinda walk a mile in each others horseshoes! Applejack almost joined the high society in Manehatten as a filly, and Raritys parents were not so fancy as she would have liked! Not only that, but they bot got another look at each others lives in Simple Ways! So that pretty much connects them too.

 

And, they just have a great chemistry in the show! Their playful banter can easily interpreted as the playful quips one directs at his lover...

And they can be downright affectionate to each other! Good things are better when they are a Rarity, anyone?

I honestly am under the impression that most human Rarity fanart isn't up to snuff and makes her look like a spenster or something along those lines. That's actually a nice piece :D Saved. Thanks for sharing that! :D
