Thinking about Rarity's Cutie Mark story in The Cutie Mark Chronicles (S1 E23).  The time line doesn't add up.  The play was supposed to be the next day. According to her, she was dragged a vast distance (the clip shows travelling for days & crossing several mountains).  How'd she get all those gems back to Ponyville in time to make the costumes?  She must have been no more than an hour or two away & probably a LOT closer.

 

It is my Head Canon that it was in Ponyville.  It is possible that it was the area she gem hunted in Dog & Pony Show (That was close enough for Spike to get back for help & the Mane 6 to return in a very short time).  It wouldn't surprise me if it was in her parent's backyard rock garden.

 

In her defense, it is customary for grown ups to exaggerate the difficulties they faced as a child.

Personally, Rarity will always be number 1 out of the mane 6. She has always had that flare and style that was unmatched. On top of that, I always loved the episodes that she was in because of how meaningful they always are. Couple that in with the obvious awesome of her being the element of generosity, it only makes sense that she should be the most adored.
