Nicely Styled Brushables

Well I have got a few brushables in my collection now, and unfortunately I always hated the manes. I wanted to make them more show accurate, so I did a bit of styling myself. I thought I'd post my outcome here, and I'd love to see anypony else who's done the same!

 

This is what my Rarity and Pinkie Pie used to look like:

 

 

And this is what Fluttershy used to look like:

 

 

I must say I was very pleased with how they turned out!

Haha! Yeah, I thought they'd never look good!

 

Thanks! It took about ten minutes to get each one wrapped up the way I needed it to, then I left them overnight to dry as I wet them so the curls would set. I undid them in the morning, et voila!   I'm so pleased with the results!

wait so you just wet the hair and kept it in place? what did you use to do that? I though you would have had to use some magical tools to achieve such good results! XD

I wish my Twi would do that...Tried so hard to make her mane more than a...well, a tornado on her head. She still looks like a tornado though, but I just tell my friends she decided to make a fashion statement.

I wet it in slightly cooled boiled water, then curled it around hair grips and drinking straws. The heat of the water allowed the curls to set stiffly enough to work with when they were dry, as I had to do a little teasing - particularly with Pinkie's, to get it to look just right. It does take a lot of patience though, I was sat with Rarity's front curl for ages trying to get it to do what I wanted! That one was difficult.

Hmmmmm you have given me faith in brushables! I have thought about getting them before as there basically all I can find without costing me an arm and a leg does it take much to keep there hair looking this good? or is it a one time thang?

I have no idea, so far they haven't started to droop so I'm hoping it will last a while. It's pretty sturdy actually, so the only way I can see the styles messing up is if they're packed or transported or something. Give it a go! I'd love to see how it works out

Well then, i'll have to invest in some brushable ponies! XD which of the ones you did would you say was the easiesy? I'd quite like to get a Fluttershy but if it's crazy hard to do her mane then I might have to go with another :L

Out of the three I'd definitely say Fluttershy is the easiest. All you need is hot water and some masking tape. If you use regular sticky tape I think it might be too sticky so use the papery stuff. Wet her hair in the hot water and wrap the end of her tail around one of her back legs and tape it into position. Do the same with her mane around her front legs but wrap in opposite directions so they flick the right way. I left mine overnight before I took the tape off. It's a definite improvement! You did a great job with brushing the mane out in just the right way. It really does look like the actual main sixes mane styles. But you did a great job, they look fantastic.

I recently added Trixie and Appleack to my collection, and their manes are now dry. After I took these pictures I made AJ a little hat because she looks weird without one, and I will be making Trixie's hat and cape.

wow,these are really nicely done! the pinkie pie mane looks like her mane from when she was a filly.My rainbowdash's mane is always sticking up,so im gonna fix that soon.

I have styled the manes on my brushables too. I even went through the trouble to remane Rainbow Dash's hair because the color configuration isn't right.

 

Anyone interested in restyling their manes can find tons of tutorials online. YouTube videos, deviantart pages, etc

Oh, I styled my ponies' hair to be 'show accurate' back in 2011, and they're mostly still holding shape I had the main six and a few of the others done, but I only seem to have pictures of a few of them.

 

 

And this isn't G4, but I found this poor girl at Goodwill. She went from this...

 

...to this. (still wet at this time, apparently I don't have a pic of it dry.)

I cut up drinking straws to make rollers! Dip her hair into just-boiled water and comb it straight, then roll it up the straws and grip it into place. Do this with all of her mane and tail and dunk her in hot water again. Leave overnight, take the rollers out and poof her up a bit. Presto!

I'd say you did a pretty nice job they look pretty show accurate, I don't think Fluttershy's hair is normally so much in her eyes, but I'm not sure you can fix that totally . Overall it looks really good though .

 

Good job! I've never really understood why the toys aren't made to look like the cannon characters most of the time .
