The Oddest/Unexpected/Weirdest Places of the World

Estcourt Station, Maine - You couldn't really access Maine without going through Canada and out into Maine again. It is only a population of four people, several houses are built around the village, and there is a gas station. Yes, you've heard me, there is a gas station maintained by Gulf.

 

Point Roberts, Washington - A geopolitical oddity, on its own. In order to get onto Washington mainland, they have to go through Canada and then go down BC-99 to get into Washington state again. There's really nothing much else except for a few homes.

Now, what's the oddest/unexpected/weirdest places of the World you've known?

I wish I had saved this certain webpage I found with a bunch of odd natural land formations...I do remember one. It was called something like "The Maw of Hell." Decades ago, when it was discovered, scientists detected that a flammable gas was being expelled from the crater. They lit the gas on fire in an effort to clear it out...and the fire never stopped burning. And it is STILL burning to this day.

 

Makes for some cool pictures, though.

Well, I definitely know what the weirdest place in the world is. It's that ridiculously quiet room where the noise level is -9 dB. 

 

 

Nobody's ever sat in it for more than 45 minutes. It's so quiet you can hear your organs function. It seems really unsettling. :3

I'd have to say Centralia, Pennsylvania is up there. It was a thriving coal mining town once, but the mine caught on fire, and has been continuously burning the coal deposits for over 50 years now. The earth is cracked all over and spits out noxious fumes, and the town is all but abandoned. It'd be quite creepy to know that a literal vision of hell was just below your feet.

Shingo, Japan is also a good weird place. Local legend says that Jesus' brother actually took his place on the cross, while Jesus himself fled to Japan and settled in Shingo where he raised a family, worked as a rice farmer, and lived to be 106. Tourists can still see the alleged grave of Jesus in Shingo today. It's interesting to speculate on where that legend might have even come from, since it's apparently rather old.

Type these coordinates into google maps. Basically, hwy 97 from northern BC to the White Horse in the Yukon, is one crazy road. You can travel three hours without seeing a single car go by so if you get stuck... People carry gas cans with them just to get between towns it's that long in  between gas stations.

I heard about that, It sounds very unsettling indeed, and even kinda creepy... Seriously I already kinda hate awkward silences as is, but this brings that to a new level .

 

I don't really know of any weird places myself to be honest, I'm not very knowledgeable about odd or unexpected places. Since well I don't do much of any research into really small towns or something . Or well odd places to be honest.

The most weirdest place in the world so far that I found was a hole that measures 40,230 feet into the Earth.
