TheSupremeLeaderOfChaos 1,206 February 25, 2020 Share February 25, 2020 No, not toward myself. I have however witnessed the result of systematic racism when assistant teaching at a historically-black elementary school in my city. Pretty ridiculous conditions the kids have to learn in, with too-old textbooks, the sorry state of the school's lighting and air conditioning, and water fountains that were installed in the 1950s. Dreambiscuit 9,691 February 25, 2020 Share February 25, 2020 I rarely experience racism between different races. But I see it among people of the same race; using certain words that no one else would ever use to refer to each other. I think racism was almost gone until recent years when everyone started looking so hard to find it in everything that it suddenly became an issue where there wasn’t one before. If you look hard enough you’ll undoubtedly find it, whether it’s actually there or not.
Here No Longer 5,276 February 25, 2020 Share February 25, 2020 No I haven't personally experienced any. It's definitely a very real issue (and the way "both sides" of US politics -give me a break, they're both right wing- discuss this and both get it laughably wrong). It's just not literally everywhere and it's also not almost nonexistent. I've definitely seen racist nonsense happen before, though. For those who would get offended by what I have to say, you might as well act like this coming part isn't here (oh and trust me, anyone far enough on the right will). Just because a cop murders somebody on the job, that doesn't make it not murder, you know. They can't get away with it with the lousy excuse of "they're just doing their job." I'm pretty sure murdering innocent civilians is not a part of their job description. Now I will say sometimes the line between what's murder and part of a cop's job can be a gray area, but I'm pretty sure a cop shooting an UNARMED man MULTIPLE times over a TRAFFIC TICKET is NOT a part of the cop's job (and yes, this did happen, to a black man, which is why it's relevant). If that was, well, okay, that would make me prefer the Mafia any day over crooks who wear a uniform and a badge who murder innocents because why not. TBD 17,254 February 26, 2020 Share February 26, 2020 hmm. Racism is pretty shallow to me these day.. I could say I can get the sense there some people being racist towards me but at the same time it's all in my head to think that. Overall, most of the time I'm pretty oblivious. Although I had experienced discriminations. As I told this story before, one man with a thick accent asked me where things are around the store. I couldn't understand what he said and asked to repeat. He got mad and said this, "I can see you don't understand English, my mistake." Another time was since there's coronavirus outbreak going around mainly in the Asia, I had one woman told me I should wear a mask, when I just only sneezed. Both my sister and mom had gone through that same problem as well. ♪ "I practice every day to find some clever lines to say, to make the meaning come through"♪
Treeglow Flicker 13,663 February 26, 2020 Share February 26, 2020 I've had one or two cases in the past where I have been called a derogatory word related to being Chinese. Despite the fact that I'm not actually Chinese.
Lucky Bolt 35,063 February 26, 2020 Share February 26, 2020 (edited) Toward myself? No. Towards other people, yes. I’m a very “mind my own business” kind of person so I just kind of walked away or ignored those situations. Well, other than being called “your typical white girl” if that counts. I don’t see that as racism though, more or less just a lighthearted funny joke. Edited February 26, 2020 by Lucky Bolt ☆ My socials ☆
Phosphor 11,529 February 27, 2020 Share February 27, 2020 Yes, a long time ago. I was called several racial slurs in elementary school because of my skin color. I'm dark tan and appear Hispanic. It stung pretty bad back then as a child; but I haven't had any issues since then.

Samurai Equine 51,440 February 27, 2020 Share February 27, 2020 (edited) Heh... Don't be fooled by my username. I may like Japanese culture, but I'm not actually asian. (Go ahead, call me a Weeb if you must) Truth is, I am a mixed race individual (Half Mexican, half White). The funny thing is, my looks are very ambiguous. I could easily blend in with either a White crowd or a Mexican crowd, and none would be the wiser until they took a much harder look. Because of it, I enjoy a bit of privilege. I am often easily welcomed into either world. On small occasions people want me to embrace only one side of my heritage, but I never do. No joke, a lady in college took my photo for a class project, and didn't even realize I was half Mexican until she was moments away from finishing the project. (It's kind of a funny story, if anyone wants to hear the full account.) One of my previous girlfriends once had a father who was a little racist, among many other crappy qualities. He made some racist remark about Mexicans when he learned I was one. To be fair, it wasn't a malicious comment. It was more like casual racism/general ignorance. Not actual intolerance. Still hurt, though. Eventually, the two of us broke up, but that's a different story. Edited February 27, 2020 by Samurai Equine

Mellow Mane 5,931 February 27, 2020 Share February 27, 2020 I've experienced some very awkward (and a little bit scary) situations as a white person when I was in Africa. I've also had some minor cases in Asia like people taking pictures/videos of me or trying to sell me stuff for a too high price but I don't really consider those small things racism. Besides that I've never experienced any racism at all, neither towards me or anyone near me.
