Fluttermoon 192 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 I certainly wouldn't be objective to it. I like romance, to be flank. As long as it's done well. I'm still going to watch the new season and enjoy it whether it has romance or not. 1 I support Princess Twilight Sparkle.

Dark Horn 430 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 I don't care so much that Twilight has a special somepony, in fact, it's about the time in her life when hormones start firing. However, though I fully trust the writers, I'd rather that she has a decent special somepony. Sparity is all fine and nice because Spike is a good character and Rarity is a good character. FlutterCord is awesome because Fluttershy and Discord are both excellent characters with tons of potential. But... FlashLight? I mean, come on, it didn't ruin the show, because Meghan said no Flash Sentry in Season 4 (Huzzah!) but still... Twilight deserves better. Sneaky 54 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 It's less Twilight getting romantically involved rather than Flash Sentry was an overall a very poorly done character. Seriously, he had no importance in the movie other than playing 'Ken'. You literally can take Flash out of Equestria Girls and the difference it will make is almost unnoticeable.

Oh my lord that would be just...horrible like some kind of fanfiction that got out of hand and then Hasbro found out and decided to make a toy out of it. But other than that that's a really good Photoshop. But I do believe it would be at least advisable to address romance in some sense, like how to balance time between friends and boyfriend, etc., and how to get along. Then why not do it with Spike and Rarity two developed characters? Instead of shoehorning in a new character? Jokuc 8,173 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 (edited) Yes, all of the mane 6 are my girlsfriends and nopony can steal them 'cause it makes Jokuc mad I am not really that against the idea of them being together, though I think it would make things in the show a little bit odd. If they become a couple, they can't leave each other since that would make Twilight way too sad and they never show such things in a children's show. That means that if they do, they'd have to stay together for the rest of the show. Personally I think it would be very odd if Twilight had a boyfriend that she hardly did not hang out with at all (I mean what's shown in the episodes) and if we do get to see moments of Twilight and this colt being together, it would also be odd if we only get to see it like once, since it would feel like they aren't together anymore if we don't actually see them being together. And if we do get to see them together a couple of times, it would most likely be together with the mane 6 since we can't have a Twilight/BF personal time scene every third episode. Uhm.. What I'm trying to say is, I don't like the idea of a mane 7. Or well um.. Maybe it could work if they could make him appear every now and then in the episodes together with the mane 6, but not all the time! I totally am a genius Edited August 1, 2013 by Jokuc
Lighthope 36 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 I really don't see the problem with Twilight having a boyfriend. Consider: The show is aimed at girls young girls, but certainly not "Barney"-age girls. So they either have or are about to have their first case of puppy love. So why not show a pony in the beginning stages of a relationship. That hesitant, not-to-sure period just like we saw in Equestria Girls. Certainly I can't believe they want to hold up Spike's pining over Rarity as the standard of romance, do they? (Don't get me wrong. That is so adorably cute!) Yes-Man 597 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 Here I am, the cold mold on a slate plate. Well, as many others have stated, I can see a main issue is that they see it as someone "stealing MAH waifu!!! >:3" (I admit I being like this for a while oFTo.) Many fans like the notion of a character they like being single, so they can ship themselves with that said character. (Guilty as charged!) All fandoms go through this at some point, some more than others, some less than other.(The day SEGA declares a ship canon is the day Tumblr explodes.) And from what I've heard, it was horribly executed. Even from just the trailer, you could tell he was just a bland, cliched, and just plain boring plot device. But I haven't seen it, so I can't comment on it personally. "I'm done being patient. pjsforever 89 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 What's wrong with it is that little girls still watch this show, and little girls shouldn't get it into their heads that they need to have a boyfriend to be like Twilight or any of the other mane 6 that would have boyfriends. You should consider that little girls are impressionable and that many absolutely love ponies. Personally I wouldn't like Twilight having a boyfriend, mostly because.. this is a kid's show. There shouldn't be serious romance in it. It would distract from the show's point which is friendship and might put the wrong ideas into the girls' heads. There's no need to be interested in boys at such a young age. It might even make some of the girls uncomfortable; serious romance is grown-up. That doesn't really go hand in hand with ponies. Besides, romance is already played at with Spike's crush on Rarity and such. That's cute, playful, and not serious at all; I think that is the amount/kind of romance that is perfect for the show. If a serious romance was included, it shouldn't be long-term at all. Because when that detracts from all the friendships, and you're wondering "Oooh I wonder what'll happen on Twilight's next date!" instead of "I wonder what awesome adventure the mane 6 will go on next (together)!" well, the point of the show might be going over your head a little. Friendship, anyone? (and sorry, platonic friendship /=/ romantic friendship) Come on, guys. You have to view it from a younger girl's perspective too. The show was made for them to begin with.
RockinRarity 1,605 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 this video here explain why Flash Sentry is a Gary Stu, and with GOOD reason. If Twilight did get a boyfriend (or should i say colt-friend) i want a character with some attitude. Not some perfect dude that is ok with anything that Twilight does or not. I am going to acknowledge what the video maker says - the way that he defined a Romance Stu, Flash Sentry does fit the bill. And it is pretty obvious that he was put in the movie to be the love interest for Twilight. Without the Romance Stu definition, any idiot could figure that out from the beginning. I will say that just because he fits the Romance Stu description for this movie, it doesn't mean that Flash Sentry is irredeemable. It does mean that the writers would start from scratch with him if he were to be introduced into the show, but they would have to do that anyways because EqG isn't part of the show canon. I would personally like to see him again in the show, if only to redeem himself as a character. This show does need more male characters, and the hidden shipper in me needs to have a developed canon ship SOMEWHERE... well, technically they don't need to have that, but it would be nice... 2 Follow my blog! ~The Mind of Sally - Experiences, Opinions, Musings~
crazitaco 596 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 (edited) We can't really confirm our suspicions that Brad is a Gary Stu because we haven't seen enough of him yet, but we can agree that he IS a boring, flat, carboard-cutout character with no depth so far. And, let's be honest. Twilight and Brad/Flash Sentry was pretty forced. I don't look forward to seeing more of it because it didn't really give a good impression to begin with. I'd rather the screen time and development go towards other characters. Also, is it really necessary? Why do we need this sudden romance when none of the characters (besides Rarity) have EVER shown any interest in dating. Why Twilight of all people? She seems like the least likely to develop crushes on boys besides Fluttershy. So, lemme sum it up. 1. Relationship is forced and cliche. 2. Brad is a boring character. Its not just because he's new either, other new characters were far more interesting than him given the same short amount of time. 3. Brad's character only has one purpose, and that is being an obvious plot device. 4. Out of character for Twilight to think about boys 5. They don't even seem to have anything in common. She just looks at him and starts crushing on him. That's sending the wrong message to any girls out there watching. Like someone for who they are, not just cause they are, like SO HAWT. If you like someone for their looks, atleast get to know what their personality is like. 6. Completely unecessary for the show (since its supposed to be centered around friendships), and will drain attention from more important things. Edit: Just to clarify, i don't have a problem with Twilight having a love interest, so long as it doesn't meet the above characteristics. If they had developed the relationship in the movie enough, they could get by just giving the pair occasional moments of slow growth scattered throughout the show without having to worry about draining attention from the other ponies. I think it would've been funnier and more interesting if the love interest actually tried and FAILED constantly at his attempts to pursue her. He could be the hopeless romantic type of character, who is has similar interests (maybe he's also a scholarly pony). Perhaps she would just want to stay friends rather than dating because she's had no experience with it before and hasn't read any books about dating. And he would be perpetually persistent in his attempts to pursue her. Over time she actually starts to see something in him that she didn't see before and realizes they have more in common than she thought. She decides to give him a chance and they hook up. That's how i would've introduced a love interest, and its far more believable i think. Not this generic goody-two-shoes, hawt, talented character who bumps into her a couple times and instantly makes her ovaries explode. Dusty Soul 2,611 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 I actually don't have a problem with it, actually I want it to be used more in future episodes (of course not S4, but S5 is open). I think it's a great thing, and actually a believable one at that. I guess people just don't like having the ponies get into relationships, because they feel it ruins the whole aspect of the show. Thrashy 2,800 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 (edited) As far as any Mane 6 character finding romance goes, there seems to be a camp for each extreme - the overly romantic bronies ("ZOMG THEY SHOULD ALL GET BFs" ), and the ones protecting their waifus ("BURN IN HELL FLASH, TWILY IS MINE!" ). Personally, I'm from the in-between camp. I don't mind any of the Mane 6 exploring the dating scene as long as the romance is believable, not shoved down my throat, and the coltfriend in question is an all-round interesting character. In my opinion, none of these things applied with Flash - the romance felt obligatory as opposed to natural, and to be honest, he didn't have much personality to speak of aside from the archetypal "boy next door" aura about him. If it does turn out that "EqG counts", in terms of continuity (doubtful), then I wouldn't mind seeing Flash pop up in se04 as long as they bother to make him interesting this time around. I'd like to think that most people's negative reactions to Flash are cognate to my own middle-ground reasons for not being a fan of him, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't seen a few folks here and there who've sworn to wreak unholy vengeance upon the "waifu thief". It's a phobia of failing a commitment but that mostly a phobia of failing at a work place setting not really of a relationship. ~Scootaloo 440 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 Well it's not that I don't want Twilight or other charcters to be held back or anything. However for some reason I just don't really like dating. To be honest, when a friend gets a girlfriend (or vice versa) sometimes we drift apart, and I don't want that sort of thing to happen (even if it is a show lol). 2 By Kyoshi
AdrianJames 26 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 I feel like crushes are good but when they are actually calling some pony their boyfriend or girlfriend then :/. Crushes would be a nice touch to the show, but if its a more serious relationship I feel like it takes away from the cute and fun parts of mlp:fim. Ihei 712 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 One of the things that irritate me is how Flash and Twilight met. Bumping into each other in the hallway. I, for one, think it's too mainstream. Lunas Husband 2,777 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 I like the idea but at the same time not really. I like it because it show kids, hey you are going to grow up and soon fall in love! and that's ok! if anything you need to! At the same time it makes me feel like the end of the show is coming sooner then I want it to, truth be told I don't want the show to end at all! but I know its going to sometime and thinking that all the mane 6 getting boyfriends and blah blah blah it makes me feel like they are going to split apart from each other and go make there own family's ahhh, maybe I'm over thinking it maybe everything well be ok! I don't know. I'm just a bit scared! "Does not matter what they say, my sweet love! I love you! and always will." ~Princess Luna
Sky Warden 2,243 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 Trying to be neutral here, making Twilight having a boyfriend contribute nothing important to the storyline. Other than that, the idea of cheap high school romance doesn't feel good to many people. A good number of people have never experienced high school romance at all, and since some Bronies love Twilight, seeing her getting a boyfriend is kinda... you know. I'm not, really. I just think it's pointless. Philophobia. It's actually a very common phobia, which is why I expected so many of the negative responses. Many people have it. In my case, it's called determination. 2 Pinkeh asked me to put this here. Just another What Do You Think About Me stuff.
