It's happened to me once or twice. I've got long hair, so I suppose it's easy to assume I'm a (rather bulky and misshapen) woman from certain angles. First instance I recall was one night a couple years ago when I was standing outside of my best friend's house, talking with him in front of my car. I heard one of the neighbors try to get my friend's attention, only for his buddy to say "Hold up, man, he's talking to some chick." I felt a strange ambivalence - honestly didn't know whether to laugh or be offended. It doesn't happen much anymore, though, since I now wear some pretty noticeable facial hair.

Unless facial hair is "in" with the ladies nowadays...

I've learned not outright tell people my gender from my years of gaming XD I act like myself, and people assume I am the opposite gender. It doesn't really bother me, but what does bother me is when people say I'm the opposite gender in real life- that happens not too often, but more often than it should :|

the most notable time was a few years ago, I was selling things at a car-boot sale and a little boy and his grandad were buying one of my things from our stall, the grandad said "now give the money to the nice lad" pointing at me, I didn't say anything, but I've never forgotten it XD

It normally doesn't happen, as I often tend to be pretty straightforward with my gender. You'd think my femininity would throw people off, but I guess not. I won't be fooling anyone until I stop putting so much emphasis on how I want to wear skirts and flowers. :/

Anywho, I look to masculine IRL to fool anyone, and I think I've stated my male gender and various waifus around here enough to make people know I'm a guy. But I recall, on another MLP forum site I was on, someone once thought I was a female. Unsurprising, as my avatar was clearly a mare (it was actually a colt that looks like a mare, but that's irrelevant). Honestly, I admit I was a bit happy that someone finally thought I was a girl with my feminine nature... it made me feel accomplished.

Anywho, yeah, I may be feminine, but I'm masculine enough that few will get my gender wrong anytime soon.

On forums not too much as long as I put my gender down...although probably due to the username I use most of the time I have been mistaked for a guy few times. In real life, quite a good number of times. xD Due to the tomboyish way I dress and especially my hair style, I've gotten mistaked for a guy quite a lot. : p

hahahaha, funny question!

In real life, I sometimes get called a girl from behind, I don't have the maniliess figure you see :P Plus my hair from behind sort looks like short female hair. hahah

On the forums, not MLP, people sometimes get confused. Maybe because i'm a bit overly kind? I'm not sure :P

Once, IRL.  I was in an elementary school costume contest, dressed as King Tutankhamun.  I won a prize (don't recall if it was 1st, 2nd, whatever) and was called up as "the little Egyptian girl."  What's funny about this is that I was wearing the nemes headdress (the most common and recognized "pharaoh" headgear), carrying the crook and flail (the scepters you see held crossed over the chest)--and most importantly, the false beard, lol.  I was wearing a robe, and had some eye makeup and jewelry for authenticity, but still...

On the forums? Never. I've stated my gender as male on my profile page so it's really hard to miss that. The way someone types also helps a lot identifying his/her gender, although it's still fairly inaccurate. That, and my username is pretty "guy-ish"

Outside of the forums, but still online, sometimes I get mistaken for a girl because I give some of the people I meet online flirty or girly nicknames for fun because embarrassing and confusing people (not in the negative way) is fun.  Plus my other aliases (Eve and Scoota-Bot) are fairly gender neutral.

In real life? Just once. It was pretty funny because we were both really drunk and someone tried to hit on me when I walked down some street, back then my hair was pretty long, a little bit shorter than halfway down my back. I let him get close, turned around and said "Haha! You're gay!", needless to say he was all like "what tha hell?!". We're pretty good friends now and we joke about it a few times while we're out drinking.

  • 1 year later...

Suprisingly, I haven't been mistaken as a guy online, since this forum has a mostly male population. I think it's because I state that I am a girl+I act somewhat girly on here. xD IRL, I have long hair, so it's kind of hard for someone to mistake me as a dude, though that would be funny if someone actually did.

A few people on the forums have mistaken me as a woman before ayy lmao. I'm a man, folks, even if I have females as my avatar 95% of the time

I've never been mistaken for a woman IRL that I know of.

I've never been mistaken for being female ever. My looks, name, and what I say could never make me come across as being anything other than male.

YES, I've been mistaken for a guy. XD Both on the forums and irl. Mostly irl, actually. But that's only been whenever I'm actually dressing up as the opposite gender. I really like dressing up in different styles and stuff, that includes to swap gender now and again.

I do cosplay and such. So here's when I'm a "guy", Matsuoka Rin from Free!, closet cosplay.

I went and ordered pizza for dinner tonight. As I walked out, the dude said "See ya ladies, have a good night".

I mean, FFS! I have a beard for crying out loud! How on earth is this even possible!!?

I'm just going to take it as a slip of speech. There's no way that guy thought I was female. I'm pretty sure it's impossible!

IRL: When I was younger I looked a bit like a girl, but I've never actually been mistaken for one.

Online: Yes, but not on MLPForums.

A lot of the forums I used to frequent never asked for you to specify your gender, so I often got mistaken for a girl by the people I talked to there  :D Probably because I am quite feminine in the way I talk and what I like  :P

But on this forum, no. Mainly as it says I'm male on my profile  And definitely not IRL  :)

Only once and that time was when Tazboi (a popular guy that runs ClubPenguinBrodcast YT channel) he actually though that I was a Gamer Girl and he flirted with me (he thought that I was the same age as him) I just responded "I'm a guy not a girl!" xD

I've never been mistaken for the opposite gender, but a lot of people get the impression I'm gay, which I am not.

I can't really reply to this topic really. Being that I am a male, but I am a transgender.

I have been only called a guy in real life, pretty much. I was called a she once, that was a joke. But I felt glad that someone called me by the female pronoun for the first time.  I'm frequently called a girl on the internet (mostly by my boyfriend).

I used to get called a girl a lot when I was younger because I had long hair and a squeaky voice, hasn't happened since puberty though.

Never had this issue on the internet before, I guess I just have a fairly male worldview.
