Hub Hubbub

What am I trying to say? The Hub, in my opinion, is a sinking ship, and it will take MLP with it when it goes. Since Hasbro owns the rights to MLP:FIM if the Hub goes down there is no possible way that it will survive by being picked up by another channel.

While I raised that specter in my previous post, I'm not so sure the end of the Hub would spell the end of Friendship is Magic.

Shutting down the Hub would be a painful decision for Hasbro, but if they see it as unsustainable, they will pull the plug. That's what executives get paid the big bucks to decide.

However, shutting down all programming just because they shut down the Hub would be financial suicide and cause for investor riots. Hub or no Hub, Hasbro needs to sell toys, and to do that, they need to market them.

TV programming has been very good to Hasbro. How can I say that so confidently? The answer can be found here:

Hasbro Reports Financial Results for the Second Quarter 2012

Entertainment and Licensing segment net revenues increased 59% to $43.2 million, compared to $27.2 million in 2011. The segment benefited from the sale of television content in all formats in the U.S. and internationally. The Entertainment and Licensing segment reported an operating profit of $8.2 million compared to $0.6 million in 2011.

In the Girls Category, net revenues declined 13%. MY LITTLE PONY products continued to grow backed by television programming globally. In the second half 2012, new Girls initiatives include the launch of FURBY, 1D, the boy band product line, as well as feature holiday items including BABY BUTTERSCOTCH from FURREAL FRIENDS; BABY WANNA WALK from BABY ALIVE and television animation for LITTLEST PET SHOP products.

Executive summary: In an otherwise not-so-rosy financial report, both TV programming and My Little Pony are beacons of profitability.

If the Hub goes down, Hasbro can still make a nice profit by licensing content and distributing their lucrative TV programming through other channels, just like they did before the Hub.

The numbers tell the story: Friendship is Magic is a hit for Hasbro, and keeping it going is a no-brainer. Indeed, any sane member of the board would realize that it's one of the last things they would want to cut. When revenues are down, you don't kill your golden geese -- or golden ponies -- if you don't want investors demanding your head.

Hence I think our beloved show is quite safe, and as long as it continues to bring home the bacon, I foresee plenty of pony in our future. B)

Not sure if anyone else has said this or not, but personally, I think Season Three only having 13 episodes would allow the writers/animators to focus and put their best into the Season and hopefully set something big for Season four (Perhaps a Cliffhanger?)

I never doubted the team (ok, maybe a little because of the overacting everyone had). William's message is a clear proof that more seasons are to come. Season 3 is suppose to have episodes that will ''make us go nuts'' so why worry?

I have a feeling that this is the last season of G4 My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. I usually feel that when they cut a season short like this, that it ends up being the last, I may be wrong, but I feel that a short season is a last season, but who knows...

Half the episodes, twice the seasons? I like that idea... Or perhaps they might attempt to make the episodes longer? Or maybe we can expect lots of stories from the mane six's past!

PIE. Lot's of pie. And bacon, and Dr. Pepper, and popcorn, and hot cocoa. Buck it, if it's junk food I'll eat it!

There better NOT be a series finale at the end of Season 3...

I once figured these producers and animators decided to add 13 episodes in Season 3 and after that, the same amount in Season 4.

Whaddya ponies think?

i don't mine while they're good, but all the episodes are good so... :(

As long as this isnt the end, I'm fine with it. It's kind of upsetting though that they didnt get a lot done. But maybe they'll suprise us with even better episodes

what if we get 13 episodes on season 3 and 39 on 4th season B)

shortage of pony stuff? hahaha.... no....

over 1000000000000 fanfics, music and fangames are already here... so, we'll live.

dont forget the many work in progress fan series's(not sure about the proper plural term for series)

the idea of a shortened season due to a possible movie(TV or theatrical) being worked on simultaneously is a good theory

but its a little hard to belive without some backing to it

what i mean is if any other animated series was working on a film or if one was released just after a shortened season, or did the announcement of said project be made near the end of a slightly shorter series.

I certainly hope this shortened season is not a prelude to an end after only 65 episodes, especially the backlash hasbro would recieve from the brony community( and personally it would be somewhat historic to see what many people would think was on the surface a little girls cartoon reach the 100 episode mark)

I don't care much about having only 13 episodes in one season, as long as they keep 'em coming little by little. I guess I can wait~

...But I would REALLY like a movie! :D

Trsut me guys, MLP: FiM isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The show is too good and makes too much money for Hub and Hasbro to cancel it anytime soon. FiM is the huge hit NO ONE saw coming.

See, I consider MLP: FiM to be the new DBZ. By that, I mean that it grew a huge fanbase very quickly. Alos like DBZ, there are TONS of fanfiction and fanart that match the quality of the show itself. DBZ was a big hit in the 90s.The DBZ cartoon ended in the 90's and guess what? The fanbase still very big. We are still getting video games based off it and there is even a new animated movie coming out for it. I think this type of legacy can very easily apply to FiM.

So in conclusion, I think FiM is like DBZ in the sense that the show will last a long time, generated a huge fanbase quickly, and may live through the fanbase. So MLP: FiM may live even after it dies.

  • 1 month later...

But does the target audience (young girls) have the patience to watch a full hour tv program? Somehow I doubt they will be making the episodes longer.

Personally I am hoping for a shorter break between seasons and season 4 to start for summer.

I think this is all a sneaky marketing technique. I don't know if this is certain, but this is just my speculation of the whole thing.

They already know how huge of a success the show is right? So of course, Hasbro's going to want to try all kinds of different ways to keep us all invested. So why not shorten a season so early in the game? Something like this can cause serious cancellation rumors to spread around, defiantly something for us to grab on. Something that'll make season three seem more special.

Like I said though, the cancellation rumors are just rumors because NOBODY has EVER confirmed that season three would be the last one. All we know is that it's just shortened. There could be another one right after it.

Think about it, would Hasbro really want to throw the show away THAT FAST? We are walking money bags to them. Throwing away everything would be, well, just STUPID.

To sum it all up, yeah it's pretty sad how this will be shortened, but in the long run, it will just make this season even more special. :)

Surprised to hear that it was ONLY going to be 13 episodes. I thought someone had been flying off rumors just to upset some people.

Now that I know it's kinda hard to take it in. I mean I hope after this, the 4th Season will come back as thrice as epic as ever!
