Anywho, seriously...

It's a good, smart move for Toys R Us to make. This shows that the line between gender is starting to blur, that equality is starting to prevail over segregation of gender and sexuality. I approve.

It has probably been mentioned but this is apparently only for the UK Toys R Us, for now. It is a nice step to society completely eliminating these pathetic gender barriers that shouldn't even exist, but I feel that it will take a long time for any US stores like this to do the same thing, due to fear of backslash by the idiotic American public. They will probably be accused of trying to make kids gay or something. We all know it would happen.

No offense to Americans there, I live in America, it is just that this country can be unbelievably stupid. So much to the point of it being the norm.

Woo! This is awesome! It won't really affect me much, cause I'm a girl, and I'm not embarrassed to walk down a aisle covered in pink and/or a aisle covered in Avengers toys, so yeah. But, still! This is wonderful that we are getting to the point that people accept this, and I'm sure it'll make a lot of you guys who are uncomfortable walking down the girls' aisle feel a bit better too!

I am in favor of this decision for the most part just because it seems silly to market with overtly pink and blue aisles when kids already know what kind of toys they like.

The thing is that there are kinds of toys that boys tend to prefer and kinds of toys that girls tend to prefer. A lot of parents who try to make their kids gender-neutral find that those tactics don't really work. Boys will throw Barbies at each other and girls will dress up GI Joe. Not for every individual case, but generally speaking. That sort of behavior isn't going to change just because the marketing has changed.

Men and women ARE different from one another. I do believe that making the marketing gender-neutral will allow kids to get whatever toys that they want and give them the freedom to play with those toys how they want, it doesn't automatically mean that boys and girls are the same.

This is awesome news!

I'd like to think bronies played some role in this decision, but I might be thinking to highly of us.

Society wont change as fast though, but this is a step in the right direction.

What is people's fascination with destroying gender? You can't change millions of years of evolution. Why is it so wrong to be a boy or a girl? Of course it's UK that does this.

It's likely Toys R Us did this because there are some toys that boys and girls like, like Legos. But that doesn't mean every toy is meant for either gender. Do you really think boys are now going to rush to the Barbie section, and girls are going for the wresting figures?

I have no problem with kids playing with whatever toys they want. But there seems to be this fascination with forcing people to go against "stereotypes," and anyone who does is a hero. This whole anti gender thing has gone too far.

I think this is a good thing. I hate to see people pressured and forced gender roles from an early age. I often hear fathers talking about how they're going to make their boy act like a man "so he won't grow up gay" and stuff like that. Kind of upsetting really.

I think it is not so much that people are obsessed with removing all distinction between the genders but that certain norms are a tad outdated and societies views on gender are changing very quickly. It has become acceptable for girls to like things that were once supposed to be "for boys", nobody bats and eye when a girl plays video games or watches wrestling for example. But though it is becoming more acceptable for boys to like things that are "for girls" that change is coming much more slowly and is wrought with all sorts of double standards. This is not to say that you don't have zealots, but those represent such a slim minority that any effect they would have is practically non existent. For yours truly I could care less about gender, I am who I am and I like what I like and most of the things I like are things that aren't considered unusual for a 27 year old man to like like video games, wrestling, and comics but I also like cartoon ponies. I am still the same person I was before except with a slightly more optimistic outlook on life and my creative side resurfacing and a couple of pony plushies.

You mean to say you "couldn't" care less. There is a difference between breaking gender roles versus destroying the concept altogether. In UK, school children are told to not use words like "his" or "hers." I'm trying to keep logic and reason in the debate. My libertarian side says boys and girls can like and do whatevere they want and not be judged. But I resist groups that want to make us all think the same way. They preach "tolerance" but are intollerant of people who disagree. It is fashionable for teens these days to repeat these slogans and catch phrases. But what does it even mean? Where is the logic? Whatever, I'm going to buy pony comics.

I kinda of agree, I think the concepts of "boy should only like this and girls should only like this" is dumb, but regardless of anything, whatever gender you identify as is a big part of who are and shouldn't be shamed away. What's going on here though is just removing absurd barriers that didn't even exist until relatively recently(it was actually expected of warriors to have a feminine and artistic side by some older cultures)

As for the intolerance, I think one Youtuber talking about how that happens with the bad kind of feminists put that well as the "I want to be equal, but I want to be treated as better than you" mentality. It gets in the way of everyone getting along really badly.

I approve of this. I've always supported the whole 'Toys are toys. Anyone can play!' thing. Hopefully, a step closer to society being more open and liberal (though, there's a hell of a long way to go).

I'd hope that this'll also result in toy aisles being organised by company, so I could walk into a Hasbro MLP/Transformers/Star Wars aisle, buy whatever I want, and leave without having to walk all over the store looking for those three.
But that's just my lazy side talking!

I think its a step in the right direction. gender stereotypes are kinda dumb anyways.

Of course, society will still label things boy and girl, thats not necessarily going to change, but its a step never the less.

I honestly don't buy toys anyways and especially not MLP stuff being a closet brony, but still this is a good step, maybe it'll help influence future generations to stop stereotyping the genders and thinking of people as individuals. Not based upon what chromosomes you have...

Do bronies have anything to do with it? I would have to say that atleast we have some form of impact in it, with how far brony's spread, i doubt we had no impact on the choice.

Now, are we the sole reason? No way, we haven't done anything telling toys R us to do this, or any company really, but we did play a part, however i'm sure another group was the bigger part of the reason.

I'm glad to hear this regardless.

  • 3 weeks later...

I believe that the choice to remove boys and girls labels would've been somewhat influenced by the brony community, although only by a little bit.

The brony community is massive.

 * When I say brony, I mean male MLP lovers - I often change my mind on this.

Edit: Sigh. I just necroed a dormant thread. Woops, sorry people.

That's wonderful! I'm totally against gender stereotypes, so this means a lot to me. It's good to see corporations doing some good every once in a while.
