technology The iPhone 5S and 5C

So the new iPhones will be released on 20th of September and iOS 7 on 18th of September. The main info about them is:

The iPhone 5S:

  • has a brand new processing chip called the A7 which will make it two times faster than the iPhone 5
  • can survive 10 hours of constant Wi-Fi browsing and 250 hours on standby

The iPhone 5C:

  • Is considerably cheap for an iPhone for if I'm not mistaken a $100 2 year contract.
  • Comes in five colours: white, green, yellow, blue and red.

The mirror explains the features in a lot better detail.

So what do you think of it?

Personally, I love the 5C with all the different colours but I'm just easily pleased by Apple.

I'm actually quite excited, especially for the 5C, because it is more affordable. Here is a downside: 16GB is $99, and 32GB is an additional $100. Oh, so an additional $100 for more space?

But let's look past the downsides. I might consider getting the 5C.

I love the 5S. The camera, with Slow Motion at 120FPS, the processing power, and the fingerprint sensor impressed me the most. I'd be all for buying one, but I'm short on money at the moment, and I just got my 4S in June...

I didn't really like the look of the 5C. Its a good concept, yes, but the plastic and weird edges don't do it for me. Spec wise, its pretty much the same as the 5, but with that horrid plastic casing. I like the premium feel and build quality of older iPhones.
The price is great though, and I like how they've made it seamless and just one whole piece.

I'm gonna be level so I don't sound like an Android fanboy or Apple hater. Generally, I approve of most mobile OSes. Hell, I loved Windows Mobile 5 when I had my T-mobile Wing, but that's another matter entirely. If I recall correctly, wasn't the plan to kill off the iPhone or something? I recall somewhere that it was Steve Jobs' dying wish that the iPhone would die out. I'm...not hating on the new design, it's nice. Might help out people who want a nice, cheap iOS device.

I find it annoying that Apple's been intentionally locking down their OSes, despite the fact that jailbreaking is perfectly legal and often encouraged. iOS 7's redesign? Not sure I approve, I should have probably tried out the test build before I jump to conclusions, but from what I see, I...just don't see why a total revamp is necessary. I kind of preferred the old interface, and I doubt I'll be moving from 6.1.3 until the jailbreak is released.

My apologies if that was off-topic, but I figured I'd throw in my two cents on what Apple's doing with the iPhone. The different colors are nice, sure. If I wasn't emotionally connected to my Motorola Photon, I'd probably be looking into it.

Long story short, Seraphim prefers his mobile devices not locked down so they can be customized and bloatware removed.

I'm no fan to apple, but these two phones are fairly nice. One is cheaper for an average consumer to use freely, and the other is for the users who are constantly on their phone and need that processing power. I'd wait to see if there's an A7X chip coming out for any, but still this new one is fast.

The iOS isn't bad either, though it makes the iPhone a little more for people who would generally buy Apple products. I like the old design better but this new one is fine.

Also the fact that both now have 4G LTE and x64 bit streaming just makes it a ton better. I have yet to see what the pricing is on it since Apple generally tends to overprice their stuff but still. It's around $300-400 bucks for the C and $500 for the S.

I love the new look of the iPhone 5S! It looks very sleek and nice, my favourite colour would be the Gold and Silver. I think its cool they added a fingerprint scanner but the thing that worries me is that the NSA might have my fingerprint. Right now i have a Blackberry Curve 9360 and im allowed to upgrade next year on October 11th but i might cancel it and purchase the iPhone 5S when it goes on sale around Black friday or boxing day. But yeah i love the new iPhone 5S, it looks very modern.

Oh, the iPhone 5C comes in multiple colors? That's cute, not like Nokia already does that with their Lumia line. It's also inexpensive until you buy it off-contract - $549 is a lot for a "low-cost" phone. Compare that to the Nokia Lumia 521, the lowest-end Windows Phone 8 device (which still provides a semi-premium feel due to the current requirements for a WP8 device) - that's $150 off-contract.

Oh, the iPhone 5S has a fancy 64-bit processor, a motion-tracking processor and a fingerprint scanner? And other than that it's the same phone as before, but with a really ugly interface? Pass.

It seems to me Apple is playing a game of catch-up now that Google is way ahead of them and Microsoft/Nokia has displaced them in a lot of countries. Even CNET, which typically gives unending praise to Apple, is being critical of them for the failure to make the IP5C truly low-cost and fail to really bring new things to the table with both the IP5S and 5C. Overall it's probably better just to upgrade to Android or Windows Phone at this point.

I thought it was fairly cool, other then the pricing.

Honestly it being $750 off contract for the iPhone 5S is the most overpriced out of ANYTHING of the Apple line. It's what pisses me off but honestly I still like the phone itself.

Still, I have my ASUS tablet that is far better in the price to power range then ^^^^ and I really don't care for the 4G LTE at the moment.

Eh - if I didn't already have an iPad to fill my iOS niche, I'd maybe possibly consider getting the 5C?  However, I do have an iPad, and a pretty sweet smartphone to boot (the Galaxy S3), at least when it's not devouring battery power like it's candy...

to be honest the ONLY thing that impresses me is the finger pint scanner in the home button

and the 5C looks like a cheap ass piece of shit that will break in 5 second ( hence the name 5C or Lasts 5 Minutes cos its Cheap)

but i still MORE than happy with my IPhone 4 that i got 2 years ago

and i wont get the new iphone until it dramatically decreases in price ( the 5S not the 5C)

The iPhone 5C seems like it's simply created because public has said them to be too expensive. Which is a good thing, I guess. But I already have an iPhone 5, so upgrading to 5S would be just plain stupid, haha.

But honestly I can't say what I think of these. I guess it's somekind of progress, since 5S is probably meant to look like iPhone 5.  Longer battery duration is something that's needed. And well, if people want to be all fancy "my phone is faster than yours even tho I don't really need the speed" -like, then go ahead, I won't really judge you :D

But I really like my iPhone 5. Just sayin'. ^^ It's perfect for MEEEEEEE~
