technology Why do certain websites hate Adblock?

Money money money...they think that turning it off would make them more money. By blocking the ads we reduce bandwidth usage AND not have to deal with those sudden ads that are malicious.

As I'm sure has been said before, adblock prevents websites from getting ad revenue :D

Of course, I use adblock :D I do whitelist Fimfic, and, for a while, Equestria Daily, but since the Rarity bashing on EQD sort of picked up lately, I started blocking their ads again.

No revenue from me :okiedokielokie:

Maybe because it blocks ads?

Sig made by Kyoshi.

Cool things people have said about me:

Never heard of him but I guess just you mentioning him is a good reason not to go anywhere near that name.

(In reference to an author I suggested.)

I use adblock, because ads are annoying, especially on YouTube.

Yup. I know I should feel bad for using it, but I don't. Perhaps if the people who decide which commercials go where actually took the time to analyze the attributes of each channel's audience, thereby giving them an idea of which types of ads would actually be relevant to those audiences, then I'd be far more inclined to disable it.

But until they realize I am NOT a soccer mom looking to buy a Dodge minivan, I'm gonna keep those 15-30 second blocks of my life for myself, thanks.

Look on the bright side, at least the government won't take the web away from us.

You're right, but I am not worried about the govt. thing!

For some, it's a source of revenue.

If you try to block ads on the Bro Team Forums, a picture of a skeleton sticking it's middle finger and tongue out takes their place, with words saying

"THANKS FOR BLOCKING ADS, HACKER

I'M HUNGRY"

I think it's a competition between the forces of evil and heaven. lolx

That's what exactly I also think about ad blockers because if the businessmen are taking care of their business and they don't like us blocking their ads, then why shouldn't we care about ourselves.

You seem to be a sensible mom :)

I once got a zero-day virus through an ad on a website that I once trusted.  After that I got adblock and I haven't let any ads through.  (actually it was admuncher in the beginning -- yes this was quite a while ago).

Because they're losing money from lack of revenue. How is this not obvious?

That's such a petty reason to block ads. If you hate them not liking Rarity, don't go to the site. You're just feeding off of them and going out of your way to ensure they don't get anything back even when it costs you nothing. If you can't deal with the idea of a site making money just because you saw something, please don't go to it at all.  :eww:

The news they give at Equestria Daily is very useful. At this point in time, all I do is go there, look at the stories to see if there's anything that piques my interest, and if not, I leave. If I find something, I read it, and I don't participate in the discussion of it.

Judging by the amount of time I spend there and the amount of visitors they get, I highly doubt it matters much to the site whether I block ads or not.

Furthermore, you don't make my decisions, and if I want to enable adblock on a site, I'm going to. That's final.

Then don't disable the ads that support the site. >_>

Yeah, it really does make a difference. :okiedokielokie:

Sure, and I'll just tell you that it is incredibly selfish and going out of your way to make sure they don't make money is a real dick move. No, I don't make your decisions, but I can tell you why I disagree with them and what's wrong with your lack of caring of a site's ability to support themselves. Keep doing what you want, I'll keep telling you why it's wrong. :eww:

And I'm really not trying to insult you or anything, but this mentality in general that you should be able to decide if people make revenue based off your view when you're not paying anything really pisses me off. Sites really need to start trying to find a way around AdBlock.
