Deep/Analytic Questions/Theories about Ponies?

So, some friends and I were talking about all sorts of things about ponies, or course we were 

 

But anyway, we had gotten into some theories and asking questions about the canon material and the non-canon material that we see on ponies all the time. And thinking about the inner works and asking some really serious and deep questions. 

Though of course we were arguing over the difference between canon and non-canon material, as well as;

Do canon questions/theories sometimes feel very shallow? 

 

Yes, you can have a simple question and/or theory, but it be very deep. Or have one that is written shallow but is actually deep, once you have a good look at them. Once you really start to think about them. 

But that of course is only for canon material.

What about all the head canon? Or all the stories and characters that are a big part of the fandom, but not the show? What about those things that you don't see with the mane 6? Or even in lands or times that were never mentioned in the show? What about all those things? 

 

Like there are multiple theories and that going on about Doctor Whooves, Derpy, Colgate, Origins of villains/Mysterious Characters. 

So many things that aren't explained in the show, the fandom does for you. Whether it be through picking the material from the show and connecting the dots, or coming up with your own stuff to answer all the questions. 

 

But I would like to ask you guys, what are some really good questions/theories/analytic things you have or know?

I would love to hear them, and it would be a great insight to what others perceive through what they find or see. 

 

And as well, do you prefer canon stuff or non canon stuff more when it either comes to content or theories?

You can't escape canon and its importance to the show, and as far as I'm concerned, it's the highest authority. I include comics, books, and the movie in canon since it was created by staff writers or under their guidance or coordination.

 

Now fanon, fanfics or Brony analysts like Digi or Dr. Wolf (my favorites) are very important, but I tend to give more weight to the analysts or forum head-canon than I do to fanfic. The fanfics are all over the place in terms of quality and intent, so they aren't helpful for understanding the show. Impartial analysis can be helpful if done well and increasing our understanding of the show.

 

I can't think of any things at the moment, although I do have a few. Dr. Wolf, who I mentioned above, has a bunch of far out ideas.

I like both canon and non canon, The canon is good for the actuale plot (I know I know...plot, laugh if you will) while I tend to like non canon for everythng, grim dark/fan fics. And actually to write decent fan fic you really need to know the storyline of the show itself so you dont sound like an idiot.

 

So to sum up what I just said I prefer both equally, without one the other could not exist IMO, or at least would not be nearly as succesful, as a good portion of the brony comunity as we already know is made up by the fandom.

I prefer canon material because, it would have to stay true to the source material to have continuity. Canon material has something unique about it, while non canon has a opportunity to write fan fictions about the show and it is from your ideas.

what would derpy be with out fans?

trixie character is more than doubled by the fans.

Irony?  Most fans dying for more content who even ready the fan ficiton haven't peaked at the comics LOL.  That's hysterical (i'm guilty of that tO)

As for me, it deepens on the theory. If it's one that is simple or something that can work in the show than I am fine with it. But if it's one that is a little dumb, than I won't believe it. But I think I go with what is seen in the show, comics, books, and so on.
