German, Scottish, English, Italian, Polish and Hungarian. Apparently the Scottish part comes from some guy named James Gow, who sailed from Scotland to what became the United States alone. I have never been able to find any relevant historical records on him.

Irish and Scottish.  My mother is half and half, whereas my father is full Irish, he immigrated to America with his parents back in 1930.

Yes, i know some guy con  my age that work with machinima, so there's nothing wrong in trying, and cuando i get on my vacation, i'll start training football again and and maybe i'll get on a team por veremos si i'm good or not

Yeah, nothing wrong with trying--you'll never know if you don't try!  And I'm sure that with some disciplined training, you'll be better than most of the guys on the team in no time!

That's an interesting combination, and an equally interesting (and not to mention mysterious) ancestor!

Whoa, Irish and Scottish!  Those are probably my two favorite cultures combined into one!  *to self* Okay, contain yourself, Panda...

Half Polish/Irish and half Ojibwe.  It's been a rather interesting process finding out who I'm related to around here smile.png.

Wow, that's an interesting one!  What's Ojibwe, if you don't mind me asking?

Ojibwe is a type of native american.

Oh, okay.  Cool!  Y'know, I've been wanting for forever to learn some Native American language or another.  Do you know any of the Ojibwe language?

A little bit but what I do know, I don't know how to spell blush.png...  Though it can be a bit difficult to learn this specific language without hearing how it's pronounced since it's spelt with extra letters. laugh.png

From my mother's side, I am Scottish and Irish, (grandmother) and Italian and Portuguese (grandfather). From my father's side, I only know that I am English and German. There might be some French, maybe Russian, and many other possibilities that I'm not completely sure of. I do know that I have a small percentage of Native American from my father's side as well, but I do not know which tribe. I want to guess Navajo, but I'm not sure. Unfortunately, my dad isn't around anymore, and I've never really known his side of the family, so I'm left with guessing. derpy_emoticon1.png

Basically, I'm what you'd call a Heinz 57. A mixture of many different origins.

Actually, I grew up in and spent the vast majority of my life in Arizona, which is home to at least 22 different Native American tribes, and I've always sort of found their many different vibrant cultures to be quite fascinating. When you live over there, you get educated about them as early as grade school. tongue.png Not to mention the whole "Cowboys vs Indians" theme is a favorite of mine, so it's ironic and yet also pretty cool seeing a cowgirl like AJ in tribal wear. But yes, that tiny bit of Native American ancestry that is part of my family has triggered some added interest too. wink.png

Let's see...

My paternal grandfather was 100% Dutch

My paternal grandmother was maybe 75% Dutch and 25% African-Surinamese

My maternal grandparents aren't nearly as clear-cut...

My maternal grandfather... Well, the the surname he had was formed because of having been translated from Alegre which traces back to Spain. ¡Viva españa! Other than that, he could have really passed for a native hunter-gatherer before the Spanish and Portuguese arrived.

As for my maternal grandmother, she also had Dutch blood in her to be sure and was sure to be mixed herself. I just don't know how mixed, really. People here tend to be really mixed.

Geneology is hard!

Well, I'm culturally Jewish* for starters. My grandmother and great grandmother on my mother's side were both born in England, but moved to Australia. No frickin' wonder considering the time period. Mom was born in the states but moved around the country a lot due to my granddad being in the military. I suppose that technically makes me both a second generation immigrant and a minority.

Don't know as much about Dad's side of the family. Once you get back even to the great grandparents you have French people marrying Greek people and I think Germany was involved at some point too and some other countries.

Oh, and don't forget that somewhere on my dad's side was the son of an escaped slave who married a Frenchwoman!

I think the only consistent theme is that there was a lot of moving around in my family.

* (Well you see I'm ethnically Jewish but my father is Christian so we sort of mix and match holidays and then I'm an atheist anyways and I have a Buddhist sibling so yeah that's how things work around my house)

Wow, that sounds like an awesome childhood!  I've always wanted learn more about my Native American ancestry (I'm like a sixteenth Cherokee), but never actually, y'know, did it. :)  I think you've inspired me to put the various Native American tribes on my list of cultures to study!

Y'know, I actually was thinking about you yesterday.  (I know, what a great way to begin a conversation, right?)  Well, not you exactly, but as I was putting up my laptop, I started thinking someone who was Jewish by descent, but not by religion, and how they would describe themselves.  Now I know that I was just, y'know, taking a glimpse into the future! ;)

I guess I didn't spell it out about my maternal grandfather. Going by his appearance and that of his own mother (from a portrait), it seems like he's descended from the native hunter-gatherers.

And yes, Metroid is my favorite video game series in fact :3

I'm American at least as far back as my great grandparents.  Beyond that my ancestry is mixed European. Mostly Irish on my mom's side and predominantly German with some Welsh on my dad's.  I don't have an extensive knowledge of my family tree though.

You might be the first to be American through several generations.  Go 'Merca!  And Irish, Welsh, and German--that's an interesting one that I don't think I've seen before!
