Does anypony else think that Fluttershy's fang retutning at the end of the episode was more of a not to her relationship with Discord, rather than her still being a vampony fruit bat? After re-watching "Keep Calm and Flutter on", it seems the lesson in that episode and how she dealt with Discord sort of ties in with the ponts Flutters made and was trying to do in "Bats" and how she tried to handle them, in spite of her friends all pretty much ganging up on her and not seeing or trying things her way.

I wasn't a big fan of this episode.  Mostly cause i have this thing against Supernatural things like vampires and zombies. (gah batponies no!!)

 

Futtershy puts animals over ponies, this annoys me, i know her talent is taking care of animals but come on.  Applejacks farm is in danger and all she can debate about ti "Oh but they have families and blah blah"   Yeah flutterhulk wasn't that great either, i mean her freinds are in trouble and all see does is be concerned. Fluttershy has always put the safety and welfare of animals (save fully-grown dragons) above all else.  I don't see how she was at all inconsistent in this episode, though she could have made more compelling arguments, I'll agree there.

 

In Power Ponies, her behavior was very similar to how it was in Dragonshy - she only reacted and stepped up when something important to her was actually hurt.  I interpreted her reluctance and fear in that episode as her seeing that the others weren't actually hurt - just immobilized - and thus not triggering that anger that they needed from her.  The only real difference I saw was that the trigger was her friends being hurt in Dragonshy, vs. the firefly being hurt in PP.

What do I got to say... this for me is the best (they are all great) Fluttershy episode so far.

I can't find the episode to watch it again for a closer look. But I feel like the episode was mainly Fluttershy's friends convincing her the bats must go, then she transforms because of the spell, then she's fixed, the bats get their own orchard, and everything works out for everypony. Nothing big happened.

I absolutely adored the song in this. It had a very gloomy feel to it, and the beat emphasized the words perfectly. (Also, can I say at the beginning of the episode, when Applejack bucked the apples off the tree? That little moment she had with the apples falling off the tree was adorable) Also.

I approve of this episode. Flutterbat was funny, though she actually scared my 2 1/2 year old daughter! Rarity had me laughing in her HAZMAT suit and the bat slobbering all over the face mask!!!! OMG that was awesome.

I've been DYING to post here! So good to be back! Anyway I thought Flutterbat was a sweet but somewhat... not inappropriate... what's the word... disconnected? no... irrelevant! a somewhat irrelevant episode... I didn't really understand why she became a bat pony... but then again... it was a cute gimicky episode and, the cliff hanger tooth? hmmmm...

I is sad to say that I'm becoming much pickier. A year ago I would have been head over heels for this episode but no, its just a good episode. I like it more then some of the other episodes of this season. 

 

Things I liked.

1. I liked the over all plot and story.

2. I liked how the righters used flutter shy to change AJ's mind. 

3. There were some funny lines

4. The bat man reference.

5. The song 

 

Things I did not like

1. Aj was clearly wrong. 

in this episode AJ was the "bad guy" unlike in green isn't your color, where neither Rarity or Fluttershy were "wrong", There is a clear antagonist and protagonist. 

2. The explanation of how the spell turned Flutters int a bat did not make much sense. 

3. AJ is left alone for two apple buck seasons in a row. So much for family.

4. The fangs at the end. all these weird endings are going no where.

Eventhough the concept of not letting friends step over your own choises is kind of good, the actual episode isn't.
 
It could have been such a great episode if it wasn't for the fact it was made around the idea of bats and inner conflicts between Fluttershy, putting what might be a possible plague over her friends and fellow ponies. So, guess what would happen if you feed bats of sort. so spreading their families further into a possible plague like the one described before by granny smith. The bats' sanctuary doesn't make any logical sense.
Instead they should have tried with something more related to real life, where we get to see meaningful interactions between the mane six and their friendship bonds, instead of idle chat and not so funny jokes.

But things only get worse along the episode, in which narrative line is more like a sort of random events all put together, without adding anything important. Both drama and charisma are lacking in this episode, where every turn of events turns out to be quite bland, almost emotionless.


References, I can't care less about them, when you're appealing to cover up some bad plot development. It kind of mislead some people into focus their attention into anything but the story itself.

That open ending fits better with a more cartoonish style kind of show. But not with mlp, since it's more story-line related. So the whole bat Fluttershy thingy didn't add anything important to the main plot. But what it makes it better is that suddenly seems like she was still a bat pony at the end. Mind-blowing, 'cause instead of giving its closure, I got a nonsensical ending about a plot I hope it never gets developed further. And where is the reason?

Exactly, the reason behind every turn of events in this chapter, wasn't even there, which by the way is why it felt so bland to me. Takes no little amount of skill to make such a meaningless episode, more worthy of those nonsensical nickelodeon shows.

Seriously, the character development achieved with this episode was almost zero, because it didn't really focused in anyone but the bats and the apples. Not what I was looking forward to see. I had enough with most episodes in season three.

Also, I would like to add another connection between Fluttershy and Disney's animated version of Snow White after seeing this episode:

In terms of plot this was actually one of the show's more complicated, deep stories. It had really good characterization for Applejack and Fluttershy to boot. Not to mention it was really nice to see those two characters interacting as they've been kept largely separate before now. While I'm not sure I'd go quite as far as calling this a great episode I am liking it more the more I think about it and I've yet to see any compelling arguments against it. 

I'm going to have to disagree. I mean, I followed the plot pretty well. It made sense to me and it made me laugh. BTW, has anyone noticed that MLP seems to be taking a dark and graphic turn?

the "big" thing that happenned was be open minded not "blinded" by what you think is right even though most times what you think is right is obviously wrong a good example season 4 episode 1 (or 2 don't exactly remember) discord is still discord after being "turned" to good this episode is a good example fluttershy says give them a little place and gather the seeds to replant else where (as for discord well he is he can't really change that so make use of it) get the meaning behind the episode?

Not a whole lot to say on this one. I had caught the song on YouTube before I ended up watching the whole thing, and it was easily the best part. Something about developing a story through song (rather than just singing it out of joy) makes it feel much more intriguing.

I hate this episode, why One they where really mean to poor Fluttershy, Two I just don't like Flutterbat, and Three the episode didn't teach "That you shouldn't let anypony pressure you into doing something you don't think is right. Sometimes you have to tell even your closest friends "no". I think that not harassing, would have been a better lesson because they didn't give Fluttershy a choice. Does anypony agree?
