gaming What do you think about girl gamers?

I enjoy playing video games but I wouldn't consider myself a gamer since I don't play much. However, I don't see the big deal about girls playing. The best feeling though as a girl playing is hearing all the premature boys curse me off for beating them, then after I talk and they realize I'm a girl they freak out even more. It's wonderful.

I'm liking this. Every girl gamer is freeing themself from the molds of society. They're doing a little something to change the world. If we all took gender-based preconceptions out of activities and didn't force people to do or keep from doing things, we would be a lot happier. Anyone should be able to enjoy a nice video game, no matter who or what you might be.

Threads like this is why I typically do not reveal my gender online. My gender should have nothing to do with how I a treated, received or thought of in regards to anything, especially something so trivial as a game.

I think they are normal, just like guy gamers. In fact, why even have those labels? Can't we all just be known as gamers? That's what we are. It doesn't matter if you are a guy or girl, you are a gamer nonetheless. The way they are treated though is kind of bad at times and I think they deserve to be treated better. Honestly, some guys are just total jerks or creeps. Though I hate the girls who pretend their gamers just to get attention. They give other girl gamers a bad name.  >_>

I guess they're fine? I play video games myself and I'm female. As long as the girl actually plays the games and doesn't just pose with a controller, then they can play to their heart's content. I'm still going to insult and yell at you, no matter what gender you are.

I know controllers have joysticks but not every gamer is born with a "joystick" if you know what I mean. Innuendo aside, what is there to really say about girl gamers? The only difference between them and male gamers is gender which dosen't even matter.

Yea, i seem to share the same opinion as many in this topic. I dont "mind" them at all, in fact I love it! More people to play with/discuss games with and added diversity. The only times where I'm like, "WHAT are you doing?" is when someone tries to gain popularity or regards themselves higher just because theyre a girl who plays games.

Well I have a couple of Friends that are girls and Plays Games, But It's Just how they were. 2 of My friends are girls, but They play the same game series as I do. If They play an Online or MMORPG game, Well It's all about the character's looks and the way (or style) they play so If they play as a male character in a Online Game, Well That all depends on if the Character they Create is "gender-locked" (if you guys know what i mean), but It's forced to be that way also Some Characters in a Online or MMORPG have a gender choice so Apparently Girl Gamers have a choice in making Male or Female Character.

For Example, One of my Friends play Maple Story and she has a gender-locked character which is a male Gender Character.

I hate stereotypes, and one of my most hated ones are gender stereotypes, so I think nothing is wrong with girl gamers, and idk why being a gamer is solely a guy thing.

So yeah, power to girl gamers for going against dumb stereotype crap.

To be honest I've never seen a girl play a very competitive game at a high level, or at least do a little good in a tournament. I mean there was ailuj playing StarCraft at MLG a couple years ago but she did hilariously bad.

I think girl gamers, the ones that specifically feel the need to point out that they are a girl, are attention whores. Being a gamer and being a "girl gamer" are not the same thing. Generally, "girl gamers" either only play something scrubbish like CoD because their boyfriends play it, or they play something scrubbish like CoD and use Twitch to be an attention whore. If you are a female and a gamer, terrific, but only if you play video games because you like video games. If you are playing video games to call yourself a "girl gamer" and get views on twitch, or just because your boyfriend likes to play video games, you aren't a gamer. Play something other than CoD, play something by Nintendo, something by Valve. Don't just play the bandwagon games. I saw a video a while back about the topic, and while there are gamers who happen to be female that play games other than bandwagon games, they don't call themselves "gurl gamers" just like people who are good at first person shooters (outside of the bandwagon ones like CoD and battlefield) don't call themselves "MLG Pro".

I'm not saying girls can't play video games, far from it. If you like it, go ahead. Just stop putting up the facade of being a gamer when all you play is CoD. To be fair, that applies to guys too. If all you play is CoD, you are not a gamer. You are a money printer for Activision.

As long as I get my damn sandwich on time and it tastes delicious, and as long as she's sexually available, she can play video games whenever she wants to, no problem.

I don't think anything particular about girl gamers on the whole. However, I do enjoy the fact that my girlfriend plays video games because it opens a new facet of interest for us to share, as well as another activity we can do together. The fact that she's not as good as me doesn't bother me, and I don't attribute that to the fact that she's a girl anyway, but rather that I just play more. Either way, due to the common ground we share since she plays games, I like that she's a 'girl gamer', and nothing is more hilarious than watching her play Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and calling every little thing that hits her a 'little bitch'. :D

I don't think it really matters, when I play wow and I when I'm raiding I will tell either gender to up their game if they are doing shit. It's just a stupid stereotype, more about the person than what's in their pants.

I like them a lot more then guy gamer's, because they are just so much funner to hang out with and 99.99% of the time they never get all mad because they lost or die.. they just go okay so what? its only a game.

Sure I know a few gamer chicks that get a bit upset but ah I don't mind. In fact my best friend in the whole world! is a game chick name Mimi! well I call her Caption A Mimiers. Blah. Anyway we have been come so close that here in a few weeks I'm going to be moving in with her..

They play video games. So do I. So I guess it's whatever. All I hate is when either, A. Gender discrimination comes in, or B. when people identify specifically as a girl gamer, even more so when it's for attention. Like, say I started identifying as a "guy gamer." It's stupid. It's just gamer, and even then I don't really like the title. Gamer in itself just feels weird.
