movies/tv South Park, what do you think of it?

I know a lot of people that absolutely love it, but I've never really gotten that into it. I watch it occasionally and I think it's funny. I guess I just don't find shows that rely solely on crude humor funny. I love shows like Futurama because they at least have some back story that's carried throughout the episodes.

Futurama is exceptional, indeed.

But as for South Park, try the episode Trapped in the Closet. It's a biting commentary on Scientology, and it's so tame in terms of content that I was able to show it to my (then) 10 year old sister.

I should also mention that Comedy Central has almost the entire show up for free on southparkstudios.com, so it's there whenever you wanna dig in.

The last season was pretty bad. A lot of bad episodes recently, really, because it's trying to be topical.

See, here's how South Park works:

Bad episode: Topical, lot of current event jokes that will make the episode worthless to people not up-to-date with events. That one where Ike hits puberty and there's a really lousy Miley Cyrus joke plotline that I never got until later because I don't keep tabs on Miley Cyrus.

Good episode: Medicinal Fried Chicken. The ban-bad-food laws and weed legalization were both topical issues but South Park used those as tools to create this whole psychotic Scarface-esque story with Randy doing his crazy...Whatever that was he was doing with his balls there.

METAPHOR TIME!

Imagine current events as a big tree.

A bad episode cuts some bark from the tree and calls it an episode. Just "hey, this is a current thing, have it."...Lousy, unfunny, terrible. I almost quit watching the show after that Miley episode, it was so terrible. As bad as the worst Simpsons.

A GOOD episode takes a chunk of that tree, carves it into a diving board, and uses that board to set up a dive into the craziest misadventure possible. Medicinal Fried Chicken turned a legal/drug debate into a Scarface epic, Ginger Cow turned middle east troubles into prophetic madness and a bizarre Messiah complex for Kyle. There was the episode that took 'reality TV' and turned it into a Hitchikers-esque affair where Earth itself was a TV show about to be cancelled. The "celebrity scandal" topic reworked into an episode about a demented corn cult that sacrifices Brittany Spears to a harvest god. The WoW and Game of Thrones sagas.

In short:

Bad South Park: "HAVE ALL THE CURRENT EVENTS, WE SURE ARE TOPICAL AND RELEVANT!"

Good South Park: "Hey, this is a current thing, so here's that same thing after our writers wrote a script around it while high on LSD."

The longer it goes on, the more bad episodes we get.

Ugh, yeah that one was terrible. They could have done something interesting with Stan leaving the town and his parents getting divorced but instead they gave us a stupid episode and threw out the whole idea.

Are you honestly complaining that a Western TV episode had everything back to status quo by episode's end? Welcome to TV. XD

Its okay, South Park sometimes have no respect for some folks' interests. Seriously, its only a matter of time before they make something of bronies.

Sorry but your interests do not deserve respect. Nobody's does. You like a pony cartoon? Great. What exactly about that is worthy of respect? You didn't save a life or contribute to a cause, so what is there to respect? Do you think WoW fans got up in arms when South Park went after them?

Cannot wait for them to do a Brony episode.

I will laugh until my vocal chords bleed.

Satire of stuff I like, or are a part of, I generally enjoy, because,

A) I think it's funny, and I enjoy laughing at myself from time to time (it's humbles the soul)

B) It draws attention to causes and things I care about.

Still watch it, still love it, and still don't hate it!

It's a unique show despite the looks and appeal to the audience.

Yet, strange how we haven't seen a parody of MLP, you'd think they've done it by now....

Also, I love the goth intro theme, next to the season 1 intro, this is my personal favorite!

South Park is without a doubt my favorite TV show of all time. I grew up with it and watchecd as it changed over the years.

To begin, the humor is great, the creators Trey and Matt are amazing because they show no mercy, weather it's the president or a celebrity or even Jesus Christ. They can and will attack anything, and not being afraid of anyone is what inspires me. The show is made in six days, which gives them time to make episodes about current events and such, this is rare in a TV show and I really appreciate it. They can go from Anime to Minecraft and they'll change their animation to fit the scenario, a really cool aspect that's great. Being limited to six days can hinder them at times, but when they have a longer time period they can really pull through, like with the movie, or the Imaginaionland, Coon and Friends, and Console Wars trilogys. This is why I'm confident the story of SoT and the eventual final episode and second movie will be top-notch. The spng parodies are grea, the dialogue is awesome, and what's really amazing is how deep and meanigful a show about talking Christmas poo can be. They have lessons about Nationalism, Religion, and Cynicism that I stick but today. I own 15/17 of the DVSs and will continue to support South Park all the way to the end, it's admittedly not as good as it was 6 years ago, but it's still good. South Park at it's worse is better than Family Guy at it's best.

Btw I'm hoping they do a brony episode; I can totally picture Butters wearing MLP T-Shirts, Randy clopping, and Stan pinching his eyes in embarrassment at his hardcore brony father. And they can easily throw a lesson in there.

Being able to watch it isn't so much the issue, I'm just a one-show-at-a-time kind of girl. I probably will start watching it.

I've also never doubted their ability to make light of or address current issues, it's just the lack of a plot that makes it harder for me to get into.

Well, I'd say South Park has about slightly less plot than Futurama, but it's still there. Don't expect too much continuity between  typical episodes (with some notable exceptions), but each episode does indeed have its own story, and the show regularly does epic multi-part episodes that follow each other end-to-end.

South Park is one of my favorite shows, but I don't really watch it too often; I just watch it from time to time. But I still think it's a great show. I like that while it may just seem like crude brainless humor on the outside, a good amount of the humor is very smart and clever. It also does satire excellently.

I hate it, I find it's another one of those immature shows, that is there for just shock value.

You clearly have never bothered to actually watch any significant portion of the show. That or you have a severe tunnel vision problem...Figuratively speaking, of course.

it's just the lack of a plot that makes it harder for me to get into.

Every single episode has a plot. Many have two. A few have more. What are you talking about? A "plot" is a storyline. Series-spanning continuity is not a necessary element. With few exceptions, every TV show ever has a discernible and definable plotline.

Case in point, Medicinal Fried Chicken (one of the series top episodes) has the following plot (spoilers - I suggest watching it first):

A Plot

A) Fried chicken is banned in South Park for health reasons.

B) Various unheathily-obsessed fat kids develop withdrawal-like symptons.

C) Said symptoms and the underlying addiction leads to what is effectively an illegal drug (chicken) market.

D) Main character Cartman gets tangled up in working for a dealer in said market, ultimately neglecting the job to eat all the product instead, culminating in a shootout with Colonel Sanders' minions. (This portion of the episode is one big sendup to Scarface, and it's awesome).

E) Many are arrested. Cartman, being a karma-evading psychopath, is not one of them.

B Plot

A) KFC place is replaced with a medicinal marijuana shop.

B) Randy Marsh gives himself cancer to gain access to marijuana.

C) Others in town follow suit.

D) People incorrectly connect the rise in cancer to the absence of KFC, concluding that KFC had anti-carcinogenic properties.

E) The original law is repealed, putting KFC back in place and restoring status quo.

I was a huge fan of South Park, especially loved Leopold Butters Stotch.

I think there was an episode that put me off watching, but I’m willing to give it another shot because I think it’s a very cosy and fun show and I liked it before.

In terms of content, it's easily both one of the best and worst shows on TV. But I think you have to fully understand the show to truly appreciate it

One of my favorite episodes is the satire of My Super Sweet 16 with Satan

As much as I enjoyed the early seasons about four boys on their crazy adventures, I even love how they parody certain trends and issues in the later seasons.

My favourite episodes per season include:

1: Mecha-Streisand

2: Chickenlover

3: Chinpokomon

4: Chef Goes Nanners

5: Scott Tennorman Must Die

6: The Death Camp of Tolerance

7: Toilet Paper

8: Good Times With Weapons

9: The Losing Edge

10: Make Love, Not Warcraft

11: Le Petit Tourette

12: Over Logging

13: The F Word

14: You Have Zero Friends

15: HumancentiPad

16: A tie between Raising the Bar and Insecurity

17: Informative Murder Porn

I love South Park.

I know sometimes the jokes can be racist, stereotypical, and vulgar.

However, the show still makes me laugh almost every time I watch it.

New episodes of the show these days are getting less funnier, though.

It's getting kinda boring.

I keep my viewings of the show towards the older episodes.

Like the 90's to 2012
