Rarity. A couple of first sketches

Recommended Posts

Hi, everybody! This is my first art-post. Actually this is my first post either, except welcoming :)

I've piled up some drawings in my pockets up to this day and decided to show them to you. Nothing spectacular really. "New guy, new drawings, wanna get some feedback, done it already" :)

So I'll create a group of topics in the few next days. This is the first one (I've tried to place them in some kind of chronological order).

Thank you for spending your time on my drawings! I appreciate that very much!

And here we go...

Rarity. The Rarity :)

I like the hair, but lol her face seems a bit strange. I'm not going to whine too much on "SHOW ACCURACY" as peronally I think everyone's own style should exist, but those ears are kind of small, eh? Also I'd do some shading and stuff with her iris and all that.

I don't wanna sound too harsh with this either because all in all they aren't too bad, but hey those are just my thoughts.

Just editing my signature to say that my behavior on here was cringe. I don't regret the friends i made but man i was cringe here

Thanks for the feedback, Lord Bababa! Agreed, ears to small :) About shading got it. I wish I could follow the show style, but at my current level of drawing skill it's not so easy :) I hope some day it would be like "Ah, easy peasy".

I find your style pretty good to be honest.  I like it when people use their own style, it's more original that way. But if I had to critique on something, it'd be the ears as the above users said.

And for tips that I use myself try using the show's artwork as guidlines on your own drawings. This way you learn more about proportion, anatomy, shading, etc. It's also great to search on Deviantart for drawing tutorials to learn from other artists, they always have great tips and tricks to make art better.

I'm not the best artist either, I'm just getting there like you are. But I've learn that the best thing is just practice, practice, practice...wow that sounds corny, huh. But you know what they say, "Practice makes perfect".  ;)

You had me at the hair and eye shading!  :D

Very excellent sketches there pal!

The ears are a bit small, but great none the less!

Excellent sketch, and double points for being rarity!

Thank you ~Silver Essence~, I've tried my best, because Rarity must looks great everywhere even on some silly sketch  ;)

Much appreciated, IHasTwi! Thank you for advises! I've already found some tutorials on EQD and YouTube. Now practice, practice, practice  ;)

What a wonderful drawing of my best pony :D

People can complain and offer improvements, but I gotta say, I love unique stylings like this over perfection any day :D

While improvements are good to offer, I get the feeling people are offering them for themselves rather than the artists, and, sad thing is, I'm not even talking about any specific person, just in general.

Don't change anything :D We need more unique art styles like this to keep things fresh. I hope to see you draw more Rarity in the future :D

You shoulud work on your proportions, since most of the facial features and also the ears are not quite in proportion with one another. Also work on how the muzzle looks from different angles. The former of the pictures should have some part of the muzzle/cheek appearing on the right side of her face. All in all, they're good pieces taking into consideration that they're first attempts, but there can always be improvement.

Thank you very much for such words, ghostfacekiller39! For more drawings of Rarity in future I absolutely sure  ;)

i like them! i really want to see what she's doing or looking at with those facial expressions

Thanks, Solar Shadow! Actually at this sketches I was so focused on drawing, that I didn't think any story about that  :) Just drew what I like, something like that.

Beautiful, fabulous, love it ;)

Awesome! Thank you, chaoticgeek2!  ;)

Thank you for the tips, Loser.! Much appreciated! It was one of my best works in my first attempts (other drawings I never show to anyone, because they not so, well, um, good enough for posting or to galleries  )

Oh, these are gorgeous.

Only thing I can think of would be moving the mane a bit into the forehead (she looks like she's suffering from a severe case of receding hairline). I've found using a triangle shape as the base of the hair with one tip just above the horn works best.
