Game franchises that need to die (or reasonably can)

BreakingJesse

Recommended Posts

The game franchises that need to die for now are:

Call of Duty (number 1)

Halo (number 2)

Resident Evil [game franchise] (number 3)

These are the top three.

Here are others:

Sonic [needs to] (totally after the new announcement)

Mario [needs to] (because there are literally no new changes at ALL in Mario games anymore)

Pokemon [reasonable] (the DS games that repeat in style, such as X, Y, Black, White, etc.)

God of War [reasonable] (it could have just ended at GOW3. it would make sense)

I agree with you for the most part except for sonic, as I have the best hopes for the guy coming soon towards his game and series.

But I'll be honest, one game franchise I want to end already? Final Fantasy...

Not only have we reached at the 15 game in the sequel soon, and not counting the extra additions like X-2 or Lightning returns, but we have reached over 100 countless spin offs all over the country! DX

That is one series that seriously needs to end as of now.

I don't believe any game series ever should die. There are people who enjoy them and there's a reason they still have the funds to keep going: Because people still buy them.

Especially Sonic. The Sonic franchise has never let me down.

I personally want Call of Duty to not die, keeps a reasonable amount of squeaking ragers out of the games I love.

Personally I want The Witcher series to die after Wild Hunt comes out, just won't be the same with Geralt's story coming to an end :c

I would also like to see Dragon Age die, Inquisition doesn't impress me one bit and Bioware's track record lately has been displeasing me.

It's time to put Resident Evil down, they don't know what to do with the series anymore

Also, I think they should end Gears and God of War, I feel that they've overstayed their welcomes

I don't want Sonic to die, they've only just re-discovered how to make a good Sonic game! (Colors, Generations, of course)

Assassin's Creed should die. It's the same thing over and over...the same boring thing.

Mario...well, 3D World was pretty great. I think the "New Super Mario Bros. blabla" stuff that's just a rehash of the old should die.

Resident Evil should be reborn. I think Capcom has no damn idea how to make a good RE game any more, but a fresh start could make a great game.

Pokemon should be reborn. The systems that are in place have gotten so friggin' stale. Pokemon is still a cool world and idea, but we need some real innovation in the battling system.

I still like many Mario games, but the Paper Mario games need to die. Now. I love the first two games of that series to death, but in the last two games, they tried fixing a formula that really didn't need fixing.

Any of the big FPS titles (Call of Duty, Modern Warfare, Halo, Killzone, etc) because quite honestly, the gameplay is even more tired than Mario. Everyone and their grandmas are going after the FPS market, look at all the crappy games of this genre on the market.

Pokemon... needs a redesign. Scrap the gym system, implement a game-encompassing plot. That's one thing Colosseum and XD got right.

World of Warcraft, because it's almost a decade old and we're still waiting for this bloody "wow-killer." Hell, I don't know if Blizzard's next MMO project Titan will be able to take it down.

I kinda disagree with people who say that, but I understand what they mean. I like Final Fantasy.

You punched me right in the gut with this thread. Ouch

I don't really want any of these franchises to end except maybe COD and Halo. I like the new direction the Sonic games are taking (with Sonic Boom especially).

Mario games are really fun to play and I really like the spin-off titles like Mario tennis/golf/soccer a whole lot. The main games are a bit  monotonous but their fun every now and then in my opinion.

Resident Evil is a pleasure of my mine even though the latest games have dived off the foundation that it started off of. I just think they can go back to the drawing board and make something that's akin to the older RE games in the series. I really liked Revelations alot because it felt reminiscent of RE1 and it had an interesting but predictable ending.

I don't have much of a history with Pokemon or God of War so I don't know what to say about those. :/

Don't get me wrong, I love Resident Evil games, but RE6 was alittle disappointing. And Revelations was no better.

Legend of Zelda (Seriously, overrated.)

Call of Duty (MW3 was a total disaster, and I would bet everything I have the ones after are even shittier.

Grand Theft Auto

Fable

Mass Effect

Elder Scrolls. Four words. Hear my short mini-mini-rant out. THESE GAMES ARE OVERRATED.

Morrowind? You might as well play Bubsy. No it's really that bad. Graphics little more detailed than Superman 64. gets away with it. Frustrating game that makes you try to smash your own skull? GETS AWAY WITH IT. Stop kidding yourselves. These games are TERRIBLE. Skyrim is only a little better, at least it's semi-decent. It doesn't deserve to exist, also, because of you. Let me explain. The fact that EVERYBODY ignores the obvious flaws of this series aggrivates me to no end. Zelda isn't quite as bad as THIS. This is not quite as bad as Bubsy, but terrible still, nonetheless.

Two game franchises come to mind. CoD and Battlefield.

Call Of Duty:

It has lived past its prime. Ghosts was an utter failure. I have since gone back to Halo, which I'm find to be a lot more enjoyable multiplayer wise. Well, the Activision ones anyways. The Treyarch ones were actually good(Black Ops 1 and 2) But I'll probably never buy another CoD game ever.

Black Ops 2 will remain as my fave CoD though. They did some cool new stuff, like a better emblem creator and unlimited titles for your gamer card. The spawns were half decent and everything had a counter to it.It was a pretty well balanced game.

Battlefield:

This game is jsut as guilty as CoD....same shit, different game. Just the same crap over and over.....nothing new or exciting.

Grand Theft Auto

post-16340-0-94110200-1392420139_thumb.png

GTA is THE best sandbox/free roam game, set in modern society you can probably buy. Especially with the recent launch of GTA V, as well as the massive Online to go with it. There's just so much you can do in it. Not to mention, Rockstar doesn't release a new GTA every year like all these other "need to die" game franchises. GTA IV was released  soon after the Next gen consoles (360 and PS3) were released. and again with GTA V, released around the same time new consoles were being launched. GTA VI will not be out for a loooong time.

Rockstar has also fixed most if not all of the glitches in it as well as of yesterday's 1.10 Title update

I agree fully on CoD. It's been the same crap over and over, all they care about is multiplayer, and everyone stroking their egos on xbox live.

I'm gonna get hate for this one...but Final Fantasy needs to die. It had its run, it was phenomenal, but it's done. For crying out loud, let it die on a high note...

Feel free to add me on steam if you want to play something. Also don't be afraid to message and talk to me. I've had bad luck when I start a conversation, so I more then likely won't start one.

At this point? Pretty much any of the generic war FPSs because it's pretty much the same damn thing over and over. Call of Duty isn't bad, but it feels like an overpriced budget title and way everyone is playing follow the leader and making clones of a game that's not even good enough to warrant wanting "more in the style of".

I disagree about Resident Evil, even though it wasn't as good as RE5, I still thought RE6 was fun and I'm enjoying the console version of Revelations I just picked up so far. Something with It's gameplay, but a more tense setting would be awesome.

"You know, I don't know who or what you are Methos, and I know you don't want to hear this, but you did teach me something. You taught me that Life's about change, about learning to accept who you are, good or bad. And I thank you for that."

At most, I'm tired of seeing those generic modern warfare games. They really need to slow down on those.

It's a little sad to see people saying Final Fantasy when they're all so different. The main commonalities being chocobos, moogles, crystals, and other basic JRPG stuff. You could slap a different title onto them and not feel too bad about it really, since they have different stories and gameplay mechanics. Bravely Default is pretty much a Final Fantasy without chocobos and moogles.

A lot of game franchises need to die. I agree with all of the ones you said but would broaden Call of Duty to the entire MMS subgenre of FPS games. With the sole exception of ARMA. I've never played ARMA but an MMS that actually strives for the realistic military part to the point of using real life tactics deserves a pass in my book.

I would add Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid to that list as well. Castlevania is about as old as Mario and killing dracula with a whip gets old really fast. Metal Gear Solid... Is there even a storyline at this point?

Elder Scrolls Online needs to die as well. I like the idea of playing with friends but it should be done from a menu in a single player game. One would think the sales numbers on Skyrim would be an excellent indicator for the love of a singleplayer RPG but alas it was not to be.

I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to have a jar of replacement magic smoke would you?

It breaks my heart to see everyone join in on the FPS h8 bandwagon. Call of Duty I kinda understand (although I enjoy it), but if you dont know anything about Halo(my favorite franchise of all time) it is really unwise to hate on it. It actually has one of the deepest story lines of all time which took me a whole year to fully understand, the characters are well done, and the gameplay itself is really entertaining(along with a pretty tolerant fanbase). So please, unless you've actually looked into the culture and story, please dont jump on the h8 bandwagons. pls gooby ur braking my hart

I think it has to do with the oversaturation of the genre rather than the games themselves, with so many shameless CoD/Battlefield clones regurgitating every month. I don't want shooters to disappear, I just want a lot less of them

'sides, Halo is one of the few FPS's I'd want to keep

Thank god there is another brony who understands the truth about the FPS genre, instead of just jumping on hate bandwagons. You, sir have made my day.

I've already said this in other threads, but I'm saying it again because it needs to be said.

THE ENTIRE IDEA THAT A VIDEO GAME MUST BECOME A "FRANCHISE" NEEDS TO DIE.

No video game deserves a sequel automatically. If a game really warrants it, make 2 more (maximum) and then shut the valve off for good and move on to something else. No matter how much people whine, no matter how much money will be lost. OR implement a feature in the game that allows indie developers to create their own variations on the game so it will never get old.

The reason I say this is, A: the law of supply and demand guarantess that a video game will lose its value the more entries exist in the series, B: releasing only a small amount of games will encourage people to cherish what they have and increase replay value, C: if the number of sequels that can be produced is strictly limited, developers will be more concerned with making those few sequels of supreme quality, D: keeping track of a large franchise is tedious! Sometimes its best to quit before you venture down that road.

Especially Sonic. The Sonic franchise has never let me down.

Damn, dude.

I don't want any game franchise to die really. That would be scheudenfreude.

But I'm done buying CoD till they invest in a better game engine. Ghosts isn't a bad game (Blops 2 beats it by a mile though) but I hope now that the devs have a 3 year cycle rather than 2 they can make something more presentable. Not a bad game series, but needs a good spit shine. I actually like it's gameplay (crucify me, I know) but it needs updating ASAP. Better graphics + more map interactions/destructability.

Halo

Call of Duty

Resident Evil

World of Warcraft

Mine craft

Uhhh... Minecraft isn't a series. It gets updated every few months and I would never put it anywhere on a list like this. Plus Mojang has too much fun updating it. Do you not like Minecraft?
