I'm not typically one to make a fuss over the graphics of a game but if I had to pick something from 8-bit or 16-bit systems I'd probably have to say...any of the Castlevania games. Just as a series and not limited to the x-bit graphics it's pretty damn good.

8 bit retro gaming is my favorite past time when enjoying the classics.

 

I remain with the good old zelda games on the game boy color at the time, they were fun as heck, albeit challenging.

VVVVVV is by far the best pixelated game of all time. It has an amazing soundtrack from Magnus Pålsson that fits with C64 theme of the game.

Blocky game: Ace of Spades

Pixelated game: Lone Survivor or To The Moon

 

Ace of Spades because I love the zombie game mode and the destructible blocks 

 

Lone Survivor because I love the tension and hiding from monsters

 

To The Moon because it was a really sad but had a great story

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and Hotline Miami/Hotline Miami 2. Both are extremely fun, and have great soundtracks. They're also among my top favorite games of all time.

Zelda II or Pac-Man, probably. They're both on completely opposite sides of the complexity spectrum, with Zelda II being on "How on Earth am I supposed to know this" levels and Pac-Man being on "you eat dots" levels but they're both really enjoyable, Zelda II moreso if you don't know what the hell you're doing.

Roblox, but it's not that blocky anymore as their engine becomes increasingly advanced. Minecraft would be my second favorite.
