Actually quite a while. Playing basketball helps with cardio, and playing the saxophone takes a lot of air. You gotta manage your air well, and usually that means long periods in between breaths.

Anyways, I'm not quite sure how music manages to calm us down, but I do know that listening to music we enjoy causes dopamine release (I;E, the pleasure chemical), so that might be a good place to start!
