Would Ponies amputate broken wings?

So i have been asking myself this question "If a pegasus ruined his or her wing beyond repair, would it be amputated or would it still be connected? I can immagine going around with a dead wing must be a hazzle but it might also be a pride thing to have it. so they might find other ways just to keep it in place on the side of the body.

I have no real good answer for either of the arguments really as i can se good reasons why it would be both.

Whats your thoughts about it? :muffins:

Yes i was thinkingabout magic, but I havent seen any magic with this strong healing property in the series yet. I mean if they had why would they need to bandage hurt wings and ponies? :P

I would imagine that magical healing is only used when the injury would not heal on it's own, due to the fact that not all doctors would be unicorns, and those that are would probably be in the big cities, like Canterlot.

I think that the wing would be kept unless it posed itself to be detrimental to the Pegasus' well being. Most likely the Pegasus in question would simply live more or less like an Earth Pony, and would have a useless wing.

Most likely the Pegasus in question would simply live more or less like an Earth Pony, and would have a useless wing.

 

Well I have been considering unicorn magic might be able to affix it into the side of the body if its not healable. Thou i personally dont think a wing with both damaged nerves and broken bones would be healable even by a unicorn.

It is healable (or replaceable) by (bio)tech (to limited extent, due to crude instruments and damn moral issues), I can see no problem with unicorn magic being able to do that. And if Twi can ascent into alicorn and basically get a wings and all the nerve structure I can see no logical issues with unicorn medical professionals being able to just fix a wing.

Sure, we have magic and stuff, but.. where there is magic, there are also situations where magic is useless.

Well I agree with you on this. Just as alicorn transformation seems to have specific rules connected too it I guess magic too has specific rules to what it can do and not do.

I think if it was necessary then they would have to amputate it.

Assuming it couldn't be fixed and you aren't talking about this happening on a "cough cough kids show" then hah yeah maybe. If the Pegasus still saw they had a chance to fix their wing even the slightest they'd keep it. I know I would. But hey. I'd be a unicorn. Then I wouldn't have this problem.

I don't think amputate is the right term when it comes to horns xD But i already feel bad for the unicorn loosing her horn. It must be such a loss to them.

First off, we have no canon examples of hornless unicorns(beyond discord who does not follow the general rules).  It might not even be possible, or despite how horns work on horned animals here, it might be re-growable -- OR it might be so inherent to a unicorn that they would die without it. 

 

As for amputating the wings of a pegasus, unfortunately an extremity that can not be fixed needs to be otherwise you end up with gangrene etc.  Plus a truly messed up wing at the level you are saying would be unlikely to grow feathers.

Actually that would just be part of the cause why it was damaged to begin with. so you would have to keep it. You can't change events that already happened to begin with as the timetravel would have just been part of the cause for it already. :D

Despite all of the incredibly sad fan fictions I have read regarding this topic. I would have to say they probably would not amputate it, unless not amputating it could possibly kill the pegasus involved. And even then a lot of pegasai would rather die than have their wing removed, Rainbow Dash for example would probably die before she lost her wing, of course she would have good friends to guide her through it and talk her out of it, but that's besides the point. Oh! and I almost forget that the show has discord who can do whatever the hell he wants, so if a pegasus got desperate enough might even search him out, as too weather or not he would do it, or just end up trolling the pony involved, welp...It's Discord, he does what he wants! :)

Barring magic, they'd probably do whatever was possible to save it first, as it would be equivalent to losing any other limb for a pegasus.

 

If they still couldn't heal it enough for the pegasus to fly, I imagine amputation would be a last resort only. We're talking the equivalent of gangrene setting in or something. A pegasus with only one wing would probably look (and worse, feel) horribly deformed and broken, so even if only for cosmetic reasons they'd probably try and save the wing, in the same way a person who can no longer walk doesn't have their legs removed.
