Jan animations shut down by hasbro/C&D

Thats a risk you run when you post stuff on the internet. If that upsets him he really shouldn't be putting up there.

That said, I can understand Hasbro wanting something like the Molestia blog down but JanAnimation's stuff is alot more truer to the spirit of the actual show so why target that?

Well his work is on the BBC! He works for Aardman by the way.

I'm sorry but you're comparing a company issuing a c&d order to a tyrant who murdered millions. Do you know how ridiculous that sounds?

And I say again, probably the reason why Hasbro doesn't go after r34 is because they can't. Who knows where these sites are based from?

>didn't refute my point that what jan did was not "theft of the FiM Intellectual property

>the same "ban it because it is morally wrong and makes me feel bad" logic has kept homosexuals oppressed for ages

>a google search can give you the sites most r34 comes from

I don't think you completely understand the dire situation at hand. You have to angle your perspective at times. From where you're standing, you're only seeing one perspective. The RIGHTS and WRONGS. There has been and always will be a shade of grey in between situations like this.

I'm curious, are you aware of what website you're on? Do you know the community that surrounds you right now? You're in the very belly of the beast where fan-animators, fan-artists, and fan-fiction writers thrive and present their works besides other websites.

To be frank, your comment on "FIM is a show for little girls" is completely contradictory to your very existence on this forum. If the show is indeed for little girls, then why is the MAJORITY of the fan-base alive with people of all ages?

No what, never mind... I could write a five paged essay on how ignorant you sound.

Yes I am aware of what website I'm on. But I'm also aware of how much time it takes to create ideas and get them onto the screen and into production. And then for some fanboy to copy your idea, without paying a penny for that. I'm sorry but I think that's wrong!

Well he didn't get permission from Hasbro, did he?

If you need permission to animate a horse in a style similar to a current TV show, then I guess you need permission to use an avatar from the show as a image on your profile online, as anything you could be saying or doing using that avatar could be harming their business.

Jan Animations didn't copy any idea. Button Mash was literally a backstage pony in FiM that had 2-4 second shot in Hearts and Hooves Day. The story line and/or Button Mash's adventures were completely original ideas from Jan Animations himself.

That just shows me how much they suck if one person can produce what takes an entire team of animators to do. Also we don't "pay" to watch the actual show anyway so why should anyone pay for making an animation based off of it? I f someone draws a pony, they pay hasbro nothing so why should they if they make an animation?

The animation style wasn't just similar, it was indistinguishable from the cartoon!

So, every single person who wrote a fan-fiction, drew a character, or made any sort of fan-made creation is forced to pay the company that produced the original material?

Is that what you're saying?

I don't understand how C&D applies to something not for profit. I wish Hasbro would snuff out some of the terrible things like Tiarawhy. Shutting down Molestia was a step in the right direction, but it's a shame Friendship of Witchcraft still exists. I need to find out how to contact Hasbro's lawyers and feed them a few names.

Never heard of it. It's their content and they have every right to remove what they please.

I mean, that sucks and all but what can you do? They have their reasons. Some of the staff could have even enjoyed the fanmade stuff that got shut down but what has to be done has to be done.

A character who appeared for 3 seconds?

Jan simply gave him a personallity, but hw never said that he was "His character",it was still in hands of Hasbro

Well if he feels he's been wronged, he can challenge the order in court, and it wasn't for personal or educational use because he posted it on YouTube. It was purely for entertainment purposes.

And if you look at the original post, the VA for button mash knows they could fight it, but due to hasbro blacklisting those who challenge them, they enforce a "sit down and shut up" policy if you want to work in animation after receiving a C&D from them.

That kind of makes you a tiny bit of a Nazi... though you have a point on Tiarawhy, you'd think they'd have gone for that first. But then again he's got stuff based elsewhere, theres no real way of stopping his stuff outside of youtube..

Look friends, the matter is simple...

At the time when FIM was picking up steam, Hasbro openly let bronies share their vids and their songs and the episodes on YouTube. Free advertising. AND IT WORKED, right?

Look at us.

But now the honeymoon is over (it ended after Fighting Is Magic was canned) and Hasbro is reigning in their IP. And there is not a single damn thing us bronies can do about it short of a full fandom-wide boycott.

Hit Hasbro where it hurts: their wallet.

Because when you think about it, FIM couldnt have been what it is today without 1 important thing: bronies.

I don't know... Button Mash's adventures actually educated me in several ways.

1] Don't stay up all night playing video games the day before school.

2] Don't cuss your mom out in a foreign language and think you're going to get away with it.

3] Don't have a Milkshake Race.

4] Don't leave things in the middle of the floor or people will trip on them.

5] It's never a bad thing to want to have a mustache, regardless how awkward it looks.

6] Always respect retro gaming machines even when you have no idea what the hell they do.

How is this not educational?

I was going to say that but, I'm glad I'm not the only one with the same mind. XD

Hasbro loves screwing with the fans. I think a bunch of bronies need to come together and donate tons of money to a cause that would buy the rights to MLP from Habro and make in entirely a fan based animation that does not have these restrictive money grabbing creativity stomping laws that big corporations love to take advantage against the little guy who is not even making money from the actual fan made animation.

There are an estimated 14 million+ bronies worldwide and growing and if each one donated $1 it would be a large sum of money that could buy out the rights to MLP and make it either an internet based show or a series on YouTube that would still have the same voice actors and possible animators like Jan on the team. Also it would be a show by the fans for the fans and would be more friendly to the brony community in terms of fan made work.

I understand this will never likely happen but many can dream.

I hate Hasbro and its greedy bully like behaviors to animators and other fans that produce content to the enjoyment of this fandom. Without us MLP would have been cancelled after Season two IMOP. The Bronies are the shows lifeblood and I believe that we are one of the main reasons why the show is still alive and Hasbro is making money off it.

I'm sorry but as someone who was planning a career in corporate law, before changing my mind and becoming a teacher instead, I feel very strongly about intellectual property!

The issue at large is that they were in the right, they did not violate law. But they cannot argue their position, as doing so would blacklist them, and prevent them from having a successful future in animation. Hasbro is essentially running things like a mafia.
