What would you change about the Fandom?

Move the fandom from the left to the far right spectrum, teach them that the human body is perfectly suited for a life in equestria (ear scratches belly-rubs and other things...), tell them that Discord is a prick no to be worshipped, finding ponies sexually attractive is perfectly normal and...teach them to stop buying products that openly goes against the fandom.

This excuse is one reason why FIM's analysis community exists. Friendship Is Magic has proven that you can produce factually good writing and storytelling whether the audience is young or old. Being a show with a young base demographic is no excuse for low-quality writing. Lowering expectations and handwaving writing flaws is what helped cause MLP to become what was originally a family-friendly, unisex show in early G1 to merely a product pandering to young girls in Tales, G3, and G3.5. This ageist mindset was something Faust wanted to change when she agreed to develop FIM, and we're getting that here.

Kids deserve high-quality content, and family shows deserve just as much criticism as adult-centric shows. Rather than lower expectations and imply that kids deserve the quality akin to modern Spongebob or Breadwinners, why not instead raise them to keep the professionals accountable?

Hetero Shipping

"Outlawing" or ditching hetero shipping is like the homophobic commentary from people suggesting to stop people shipping slash shipping. Here, it's sexist and heterophobic. People will ship whatever they want to ship. I ship whatever the hell I want. Straight, homosexual, threesome, incest, May/December, whatever.

Pony Analysts

Brony analysts exist for many reasons. The one I addressed to VictiniStar is one. Another is the fact that no show isn't a subject for analysis. Good shows like FIM contain good-quality content well underneath the surface. Steven Universe is full of fantastic subcontext. FIM has the same. If you get rid of analysts, then you get rid of a very good core of not just the fandom, but the very same forum. In addition, you're implying that family shows shouldn't be hold to strict standards. Not just FIM, but others, too, including SU. Analysts are just as big bronies as you, I, and everyone else here. There's no objectively good reason to "alter" or "remove" brony analysts.

Easy. No cloppers.

On another note, I'd wish there to be more merch not relying on vinyl figures so much. More every day stuff, like when G1 came ougt. More stationary, clothing, cases (phones, laptops).

That is a dangerous suggestion. Clopping bronies are bronies just like you and me. We're all like the show. Clopping doesn't hurt anyone, and "cloppers" are actually quite nice people once you get to know them.

If we could make it less sexual and less gory, that'd be great.

Agreed. There may be fans that think about it like that, but that shouldn't be how it's thought of. It's a kid's show about magic, friendship, and both being one. NO suggestion of any gory or sexual stuff, it's just gross... People can have those opinions, but if the general populace is disturbed by it, they should tone it down a bit. No disrespect intended, but I personally disagree with those sort of fandoms.

I'd also like any drama stirred up by G1 vs FiM to disappear forever.

Without G1, FiM wouldn't exist, seeing as it is a reboot, but we should be able to live in harmony. I hate the argument that 'old/retro is outdated and nasty!'

While that is true, there comes a point where people need to take things a little more seriously. Balance is key.

The MLP fandom is not perfect; no fandom is. But my main qualms about the MLP fandom are moral ones. So I only have two thing that I would change.

- I wish the fandom would stop sexualizing innocent MLP characters! I find this aspect of the fandom highly disturbing. I will not bite my tongue on this; it is disgusting. I can not even search for MLP pictures on Google (with safe search on) without having that crap pop up on my screen. The show is aimed towards little girls! Taking characters from a show for little girls and making them into sexual fetishes is wrong; no matter how you hash it.

I don't blame people who see this aspect of the fandom and think bronies are pedophiles, would you? We know that this isn't so, but it's a perfectly logical assumption at first glance.  The thought of a child fan searching for MLP and accidentally being exposed to that stuff hurts my heart.

- I wish the fandom would stop associating the show with the LGBT movement. Please, oh please, stop taking up a kids show and using it as a means to herald the LGBT agenda; it's wrong. MLP has nothing to do with that. Start a friendship movement if you want, but leave sexual orientation out of it. The LBGT have every right to spread their message but using a children's show to do it is taking it too far. There is nothing sexual about it.

In total. For others not to make a child's show into a fetish dream? :) I'm with you, and a whole ton of others are too.

@,@@Overlord0909.

Okay. I have rather strong opinions on this topic, and I'm about to vent them. Please don't take offense - I'm sure you're both wonderful people, etc. But I want to address this.

I feel that frowning on clopping is a bit hypocritical. Now, the point is not how disgusting such-and-such is. The point I'd like to make is more abstract than that. So:

1. We all like ponies. I can hopefully assume that here. Few of us are in the target demographic, and we've made plenty of stuff that isn't intended, or even appropriate, for that target demographic. Fanfictions deal with death, relationships, war, and sexuality. Comics make crude or adult jokes. We've even made games of the Mane 6 - the paragons of friendship - beating each other up for no good reason. So the argument that cloppers are spoiling the innocence of the show is just invalid. Plenty of us are fascinated by its innocence, so much so that we've spoiled it for whoever wants to try to do so long ago.

2. One of the basic ideas behind both the show and our community is the freedom to be yourself, and the privilege of being accepted for being yourself. We accept people of all races, religions, etc. People who used to hate our guts. People of any sexuality under the sun. Yet some of us draw the line to exclude bronies who love the show just as much as the rest of us - but also happen to have a sexual fetish towards them. Because they're violating the purity or sanctity of things we hold dear...? Forgive my comparison, but that's the kind of argument we hear against gay marriage all the time.

3. Nor can we argue that they're shoving this everywhere. Of course a few are, but there are also a few bronies shoving the show down everyone's throats. Doesn't mean the whole fandom is bad, and we're always insisting not to be judged based on those individuals. The great majority of clop sites have what protections seem reasonable in place. We're never really going to be able to keep children and smut completely separate*. If they want to, they can always find it. So just the fact that this kind of stuff is potentially accessible to children just isn't relevant. Any kid who's smart or lucky can find any sort of thing they want.

Okay. Vent over. If you have any more arguments, I'll gladly hear them out, but perhaps we should avoid derailing this topic.

Thanks for listening to my two cents, anyway.

*and, honestly, I kind of doubt the need to. But that's a separate topic.

Also, concerning the original topic of the question:

I'd like to see the community organize and become a real force for good in the world. We all have so much potential, so much energy we're willing to give. We're already doing some surprising things in our disorder. If we could just focus all that, we'd be amazing. And maybe even better accepted and loved by the outside world.

It's a bug and a feature!

my biggest complaint in the entire fandom is when Bronies/Pegasisters upload a YouTube video of a sad third party song, with a sad picture that doesn't belong to them and name the video "Sad Ponies This will make you cry, you have no soul if you don't cry" or something along those lines.... Christ that shit pisses me off it makes it hard to find actual sad fan made MLP songs

I would get rid of that in a heartbeat

That doesn't really sound like something the fandom could do? But if it were me, I'd make everyone a Twilight Sparkle fan I don't really see anything wrong with the community, it is what it is for a reason, that's just how it's meant to be.

@@Suukorak,

I appreciate that you were respectful in your disagreement. Honestly, what else is there for me to say? This is a moral issue. If you think sexualizing characters from a children's show is O.K., my argument will avail nothing; and consequently be a waste of your time and my own.  You have every right to exercise your own judgment on the matter, and I won't try to convince you otherwise. ~ Peace

I just wanted to say that I never agreed with the violent topics either. They are part of my pet peeves too. :P But of course, I respect what you say, along with everyone else's opinion on the matter. Just saying personally that it disturbs me.
