• Linux is a very functional OS, but for relatively new users, it has the usability of an airplane in a hailstorm.

Internet Explorer has a long and unfortunate history of ruining web practices and stagnating as a horrible browser. However, in recent years it has improved beyond recognition, and actually follows HTML5 standards rather than inventing Microsoft-specific tech.

In contrast, Webkit and Chrome have evolved away from standards, such that Chrome-optimized sites do not run in other HTML5-standard browsers. As a web developer, for me, the "problem browser" that we need specific fixes for has shifted: from Internet Explorer, to Chrome.

I severely dislike programming languages that rely on you to memorize obscure function names with specific shorthand. ie, to delete a file: os.delFile(path, filename). (Actually, my preferred languages are well-defined enough to allow IDE IntelliSense so that you can type in a few letters and get suggestions)

Here's an unpopular tech-related opinion.

 

Technology pushes us away from mother nature, and makes us less and less spiritual, the more time we spend indoors with it, instead of going out to commune with nature. And yet, we all feel compelled to still live this way.

 

This opinion could also qualify for the unpopular opinions thread.

-Dynatec phones were badass looking, don't let anyone tell ya different.

-I liked tech in the late 90s. Tech at that point was chic.

-I miss TV sets that had the backend. Same with computer monitors for that matter.

-I have a smartphone and I still think they're bad news.

We do not need technology in every little facet of our lives.  I don't see why people think couches and coffee cups should have touchscreens on them.

My dislike for apple more has to come with people's brand loyalty to it and how they're willing to pay more for it despite cheaper and better devices available. They make good products, but Apple likes to overprice their sfuff which I dislike despite my fondness for the Ipad 3 I have.

okay you have a point there. Challenge for ya though: Find me a better valued ultrabook ( or flatbook, whatever you want to call them ), than the base model Macbook air 11", same specs and everything.

Can't really find anyone without resorting to inferior specs in my search. It's one of the few times Apple's price is actually worth it's range I think. Nice find I5.

-Linux is a joke of an operating system. It's nice for enthusiasts and people who like playing with their OS, as well as elitists who want to desperately hold onto their superiority complex, but as a practical OS it lags behind even Apple

Smart phones in general are awful. The entire business model is based on grabbing the personal information of millions or sucking wallets dry through microtransactions. The apps themselves are mindless, soulless, useless or have existed in the form of a flash game since 2005.

Show me a flash game that allows me to track my blood glucose level, or warns me if I forget an injection. Show me how an app that allows me to keep my blood pressure in check is sucking my wallet dry through micro-transactions. The smartphone business model is fine, it's mobile gaming that's taking the piss.

• "If it's not broken, don't fix it" generally doesn't apply to software. If it didn't, then we never would have anything beyond what operating systems and other software was like in... 1995.

Consoles today are consoles in name only. The last real consoles were the GameCube and PlayStation 2, everything after is just a money-printing device.

- Windows 8 has a good idea about the tiles, but approaches it wrong, what tiling WMs in Linux prove.

- If Linux is a joke, then so is the internet.

- Windows Servers is adequate, but... Linux or BSD are far better server OS's than any Windows server version.

- Many people don't seem to know what linux even is, or if they do, they probably don't know what BSD is.

The only reason more programs are designed for it is because Windows is designed to WORK. Linux requires a concerted effort to get running, and thus is impractical in most industry use cases (websites notwithstanding)

I do have to say, my mechanical may be expensive but I love it to death... Then again, everyone else in the house doesn't (MX Blues are LOUD)

mind elaborating? because you're just spreading FUD, like most every other Linux hater. I can see that being the case for CAD programs however.

 

- FUD spreaders don't know what they're talking about.

- I think everyone should at least get exposed to the command line.

- There are 2 types of people who use Windows 8:

  1: Fanbois/goils

  2: People who don't care.

A Mac is a pc. PC stands for "personal computer". Unless your Mac is being used to direct airplanes or run an asphalt plant, it's a PC. If a PC (including Macs) is being used for company purposes, then it's not a PC, it's a workstation.

iOS mobile is a unstable trainwreck that starts breaking down before the device is even half full of apps

 

Iphones are over-priced for the specs and you can get a BETTER android device for far less

 

The platform is way to locked down(you have to jail-break to even change your background)

 

The android app-store is better because it's a more open platform.

 

The new Iphones are tiny and ugly.
