  1. Why can't the writers just admit they messed up? If Magical Mystery Cure was well written (which it wasn't), I would've been convinced that Twilight was destined to earn her title of princess. But I wasn't convinced. Why? Because the episode was rushed and did not flow smoothly at all. The result was a mess of swapped cutie marks which somehow determine destiny despite being determined by destiny themselves, would-be-good songs that unfortunately were cut short thanks to the complete disorganization of the episode, and a blatantly shoehorned princess coronation. Very little effort was put into connecting the dots, leaving the viewers confused as to what's going on, with the word "destiny" being used over and over as a lame excuse for the mess. The moments where we're supposed to be convinced that Twilight was proving herself a responsible leader were executed so poorly that they served only to tell us otherwise. For example, There's one instance in the episode where Twilight gets a mail delivery (it's during the flashback). Shortly after receiving the package, she immediately slams the door in the stallion's face! I'm sure he probably said to himself something along the lines of "A simple thank you would suffice." Also during that flashback we see how Twilight was ultimately responsible for messing up her friends' cutie marks (and apparently their destinies). But by the end of the episode, she's crowned a princess for "fulfilling her destiny" (great reason to elect a leader, BTW) despite doing nothing more that plagiarizing a spell and fixing a mess she created. The episode completely throws Twilight way out of character to the point of making her seem spoiled rotten (Yay! I'm a princess now! I can take care of Equestria all on my own! I love being pampered because I plagiarized one of Starswirl's spells! Wee! Look at me fly! Everything's going to be fine!). This is the exact opposite of the antisocial unicorn that drew me into the show to begin with. Long story short, Magical Mystery Cure was a failure and the writers need to come to terms with their imperfections and stop pretending that we're just ignorant. Wait a second. Aren't these the same people that said "She's not going to change at all. She's still going to stay in Ponyville with her friends."? Which one is it? Either way, it's a stupid decision. Either she leaves her friends and completely throws off the balance and story of the show, or she stays in the library with her friends, thus making her ascension pointless. There's no right answer! Also, I'm sick and tired of being generalized as a whining, griping, and pointlessly complaining crybaby who doesn't like any form of change! If you need an example of a true change-hating crybaby, look up "Mariotehplumber" (beware, he's a big potty mouth). This idiot became infamous across the internet due to his close-mindedness. Basically, he hates on everything about any game that wasn't exactly identical to the original 1991 Sonic game. He even complained about such ridiculous things as minor graphical change (such as the main character's shade of blue, and even his eye color) that had no real effect on the game. All the while claiming to be "one of the best people at that game in the world". Anyone who disagreed with his opinions was quickly met with death threats. Anti-Twilicorn (and Equestria Girls) bronies like me aren't arrogant complainers. We're genuinely concerned for the show and don't want to see it die.
  2. I personally think she uses informational books the most. Almost every time she mentions books (with the exception of Daring Do) it's some sort of almanac. Same goes for me.
  3. Unicorns don't need wings to be cool.

  4. Any reason why so many official toys and vectors portray Rarity with pink accents in her hair? Is this intentional or just a mistake? Perhaps they're trying to emulate the lighter areas of her mane and tail as seen on the show. What are your thoughts?
  5. Wow thanks! You're so nice! Guess what? You're not the only member of this fandom. There are going to be people who disagree with you and who's to say they're always wrong and you're always right? I've posted countless walls of text explaining my criticism for alicorn Twilight. But apparently you want another so here goes! As a princess, Twilight will spend the majority of her time doing her royal duties or simply adjusting to being a princess (we've already seen plenty of these overly cutesy time wasters in MMC and EQG alone). Never mind that her friends are supposed to be in this with her (after all, they're the real source of Twilight's power, aren't they?) , we will for the most part see little more than Twilight doing cheesy gags with her wings. Oh, wait a second, did I tell you that Rainbow Dash just got accepted into the Wonderbolt Academy? Oh well, who cares! We wanna see Twilie learn to fly! What's that? Rarity met a nice stallion who could help her get recognized in the fashion industry? Oh please! Gimme a break! We'd all rather see Twilight flirting with Flash Sentry! What now? Applejack and her family are trying to get enough water to keep their stock alive through a drought? Tch! Puh-leeze! I think I speak for everypony when I say that I'd rather see Twilight attend boring banquets and drink tea! Oh, by the way, Pinkie Pie is entering a cupcake making contest but there's been rumors of food poisoning going on recently. So What? Twilight signing a pile of certified documents is way more intriguing! Hey, is that Fluttershy? Is she being burdened with the task of taking care of some dangerous animals? Aw no bother! Twilight looks so cute in her dress and she's obviously way more interesting than those lame sideki-err I mean her friends! "But wait!", you say. "Twilight won't be leaving her friends! She'll be staying in Ponyville with the rest of them!" Okay, fair enough. But that only raises even more concerns. If she continues to be the "same adorkable pony", staying in her library, then her coronation was all for naught. After all, what's the point of having a princess when she does nothing more than what a normal citizen would do? Isn't that kinda missing the point? If she's a princess, then she is burdened with the task of being a leader. And she can't exactly do that if she's going to sit around in the Golden Oaks Library all day. Equestria wants to see a leader, not an antisocial unicorn librarian with a pointless pair of out-of-place, over-sized wings on her back. "But it's character development. Quit being so mean to your favorite pony, Dolphanatic! Without change, nothing would ever get accomplished!" Well I, for one, beg to differ. Twilight's character was intriguing enough as is; certainly enough to get me hooked. I loved her character. I had never known a character who thought and acted just like I would in her situations, making the same decisions I would. It was a relief to see, especially in a day and age where being analytical and studious are usually shown in a negative light. Countless times I've been called out for not "acting normal" by fellow family members to the point of them thinking they must tell others in advance that I "think too literally and am hindered from socially interacting properly". Sometimes I would be blamed for not having many friends. Twilight's character was well established from the first episode, with her being the bearer of the Element of Magic. Then came Cutie Mark Chronicles which gave us a flashback that supported her storyline even further by telling us she first succeeded in passing the entrance exam for enrollment in Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns only after seeing a sign from a future friend (Rainbow Dash's first sonic rainboom). At that point, she realized how much power she was truly capable of. So did Celestia, who offered to be her mentor to help her learn to better control her magic. So does that add up to becoming an alicorn princess? No it doesn't. Why? Well first off, Celestia was supposed to be queen, not princess (the same goes for Luna). And while Lauren Faust said that Twilight would at some point be Celestia's successor, she probably meant Twilight would eventually work through the ranks and maybe even be promoted to princess status (with the two alicorns being queens and Twilight staying a unicorn). Maybe later she would fill in her role in some way or another as a "successor" of sorts. We don't really know. All we know is that Twilight was not intended to be an alicorn (Lauren Faust said this as well). A lot of people (including me) will tell you that Season 3 was, in fact, rushed. After all, they had to cram a lot of would-be multiple episodes and ambitious two-parters into a measly 13 episodes. Magic Dual, along with many of Season 3's episodes, had a great buildup, only to run out of time and have an ending that was very abrupt and hard to follow. Then there's Magical Mystery Cure, which was even more ambitious. But that only backfired. One moment everypony's cutie marks are messed up (there were a lot of writing errors to originate from this alone, such as how Pinkie had no knowledge of how to work on a farm despite living in a rock farm when she was a filly, and such), the next moment Twilight suddenly ties all loose ends with almost no explanation given, in just a few verses of song. And while I'm talking about the music, let me just say this: In order to give a song the most meaning in this show, there should be time for us to let it sink in. It's hard to do that when song after song after song is being crammed and shortened just to make room for the next. It's just overwhelming. But I'm getting off track here. So as I was saying, just after everything gets solved, Twilight Sparkle, for whatever reason, finishes Starswirl's unfinished spell with a spell that she should have known from the pilot episode. Then things really go off the deep end when Twilight suddenly disappears and finds herself being promoted to an alicorn and guess what? When she reappears, she finds out that she's also a princess! Why? I honestly don't know. Because she has wings, I guess (after all, Fluttershy did say she "looked like a princess" when Twilight unfurled her new wings). This is so far from the original intention of the show that it's facepalmable. Then there's the cheesy coronation scene with Twilight eventually saying that she was "the luckiest pony in Equestria" which she certainly was, seeing that she suddenly has all of Equestria cheering for their new princess who was promoted out of the blue. In short: Yes, there were many instances in Season 3 where the writing simply fell flat. I'd really hate to give up on this show. I'm not a quitter. I think it's foolish to be one. But on the other hand, I want to see something enjoyable. I want to see them bring back the clever story writing, the lighthearted humor, and well-rounded characters to drive it all. But right now, it all seems to slowly be crumbling. Don't get me wrong, I still love the show and there were still some good episodes in Season 3. But overall it has been a downhill slope. I don't want to put too much faith in something that may very well crush my hopes.

  7. Yes, I saw the movie. I watched it in a local theater with a few other fans on June 22. Therefore, I have a right to judge. I've seen some really stupid posts by people who support alicorn Twilight. These people rarely receive any criticism. But the very minute someone like me tries to say why he or she dislikes the idea, it automatically gets shoved aside and classified as "whining".
  8. It has never been confirmed that it will be permanent. I hate the alicornification of former best pony with a burning passion in my heart and I always will! The whole idea that Celestia just picks some lucky pony to become a goddess is plain dumb. "Oh but she was destined for it from the beginning!" No she wasn't! Otherwise we'd be seeing good coming out of this. Not rushed episode after rushed episode with a surreally horrible season finale. There was absolutely no buildup to Magical Mystery Cure; it just happened all of the sudden. Instead of enjoying the show. I feel like the almost year-long wait will only have me disappointed. To be honest, If they can't put their act together by the fifth season (should the show last that long), I see no reason to hesitate from pulling the plug on MLP altogether. I really hate to say that, but It's true. I want to see something enjoyable. I want to see them bring back the clever story writing, the lighthearted humor, and well-rounded characters to drive it all. But right now, it all seems to slowly be crumbling. Don't get me wrong, I still love the show and there were still some good episodes in Season 3. But overall it has been a downhill slope as the minor writing errors from the previous seasons (like Spitfire not doing much in Hurricane Fluttershy) are growing into major problems (almost everything with The Crystal Empire and Magical Mystery Cure, as well as countless "well duh" and "what's going on" moments in Equestria Girls {even if it's not canon, it still had the same writers}). I'm not a quitter. I think it's stupid to be one. But I don't want to put too much faith in something that may very well crush my hopes, either.
  9. Oh thank goodness this thread is still alive! I was seriously worried that I might have killed it a couple months ago! If you don't know what I mean, just take a look at the time that passed between my last post and the one after that.
  10. Wow! Nice to see that unicorn Twilight fanart hasn't gone extinct! Let's hope it stays this way! I guess I'm not as alone as I thought.
  11. But that's almost a year from now ! And honestly, Magical Mystery Cure didn't exactly scream "cliffhanger" to me (though that doesn't necessarily mean it can't still be true). If I'm not mistaken MMC was supposed to give us a first impression of Twilicorn so yeah, I do have at least some right to judge for myself.
  12. What ever happened to Twilight being your main topic. Hardly anything on your profile even says Twilight anymore. You're giving me a sad! http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/048/e/3/sad_twilight_by_patekoro-d4q1emd.png

There's always 64 other episodes where she's still herself. You could always use a screenshot from one of those episodes. Then there's still plenty of unicorn Twilight fanart being posted on the Twilight Sparkle Fan Club thread as I speak.

And there's still a chance that the writers could put their act together in the next season (albeit a slim one).

But I digress. Even I can feel the energy of my enthusiasm for the show draining. But I wouldn't pull...

  14. Uggh! Do you people even read my posts or do you just pick a random sentence and nitpick it? Have you watched Equestria Girls (or even Season 3)? It totally supports my argument. As of recently, Twilight has been doing almost everything on her own while her friends act like total goofballs making borderline pandering gags. And by the way, successor ≠ princess. Twilight was probably supposed to lead equestria in a totally new direction. But alas, the corporate overlords wanted to sell more toys.
  15. Here we go again! No, becoming a princess does not automatically make one a Mary-Sue. Disregarding all of a character's problems so that he or she can do no more than smile and sing about how wonderful everything is while being spoiled does. She was so out of character it was painful to watch. She wasn't much better in Equestria Girls. She just did all the work herself with the exception of a few instances where her six goofy sidekicks beat her to it. I called them sidekicks because they're obviously inferior to the utter perfection of pretty pony princess Twilight Sparkle! Especially now that her change has just taken place, we're expecting the writers to [attempt to] give it more depth throughout Season 4. This can only mean one thing: Less screen time for the rest of the cast. I'm going to guess that a good 50% of Season 4 will be about Twilight adjusting to being a princess. The other 50% will be split among Spike, the CMC and the rest of the Mane Six. That's just unfair. They all deserve equal screen time and yet they most likely won't because of this new shift of attention. She's easily the least deserving of the cast in terms of qualifying for princess. What's wrong with Applejack? Even Rainbow Dash has shown some moments of responsibility here and there. But Twilight? She was the least friendly of the cast, and it's only because of her friends that she became what she is today. If anything, they all deserve it more than her! But now, with Twilight becoming a princess, it feels like her friends were just used by her to get the prize. I don't know about the rest of you, but that sure leaves a bad taste in my mouth. That alone should tell you that it isn't just one episode I'm getting my argument from, although Lesson Zero is a great example. I'm not just talking about Twilight getting all worked up. I'm more referring to the fact that she cast a spell that sent all of Ponyville's citizens on a rampage. Not even Twilight could fix the problem and had Celestia not intervened, things probably would have gotten even worse. But that's just one example. There's the pilot episode, but I've mostly covered that in the previous paragraph. There's also A Bird in the Hoof where Twilight encourages Fluttershy to hide Philomena and even force feed her (and we all know how that episode ended). You could say Winter Wrap Up is arguably the best evidence for Twilight being a capable leader. However it still took her the entire episode just to compose herself. But even then she couldn't just do everything herself. It was all of Ponyville cooperating that ultimately did the job. Twilight still relied on others, and it showed not only in Winter Wrap Up, but also in The Stare Master when she was saved from a cockatrice by Fluttershy or even as far back as the flashback in Cutie Mark Chronicles when she only showed her full potential after seeing a sign from a future friend (Rainbow Dash's first sonic rainboom). It's not that I'm "Pissed off" or "Butthurt" because I don't like change in general. It's more that I'm upset at how they've ruined Twilight's character. Believe it of not, I'd be more than happy to see some new stories coming from character development such as Rainbow Dash becoming more familiar with the Wonderbolts throughout the show. I've always enjoyed seeing the story pick up from where the last one left off (such as Spitfire mentioning Rainbow Dash's heroism at the Best Young Flyer competition when they met at the Grand Galloping Gala). It helps strengthen continuity and makes the story more developed. But suddenly giving a character a pointless pair of wings and the title of princess for almost no reason is not proper character development. It just feels forced and unnatural, especially when there's no buildup at all (let's face it, the whole alicorn ascension thing totally came out of left field. They had just tied all the loose ends when suddenly Twilight gets zapped and before we can get a grip on what's going on, they're already having an alicorn princess coronation). Contrary to popular belief, Twilight's alicorn ascension was not planned from the beginning. Throughout the series, Twilight's greatest strength was attributed to her friends. Without them she would be weak and powerless. The Element of Magic was a combination of all the other Elements. And only with the other Elements could the sixth Element be powered (Equestria Girls' lazy writing contradicts this, but I'd take MLP:FiM canon over EQG any day). You could say that every time Twilight has succeeded, it's been because she's been "standing on the shoulders of giants" so to speak. Her destiny was obviously working magic through friendship, whether it be by spellwriting like Starswirl the Bearded or by saving Equestria with the Elements. There was not a single bit of evidence that she would leave this path in the dust for the sake royalty. Even Lauren Faust has said this many times. They had already done enough explanation of this throughout the series to satisfy any good listener. Unfortunately, most fans didn't listen very well, as they had their own ideas for Twilight's destiny such as becoming a princess, which may have been the final push for the marketing department to force Twilicorn into the canon. Such a pity, really. We were finally getting settled in and everything was sorted out, only to have it ruined! But now as a princess, Twilight will spend the majority of her time doing her royal duties or simply adjusting to being a princess (we've already seen plenty of these overly cutesy time wasters in MMC and EQG alone). Never mind that her friends are supposed to be in this with her, we will see mostly Twilight doing cheesy gags with her wings. Psht! Twilight won't be leaving her friends! She'll be staying in Ponyville with the rest of them! Okay, fair enough. But that only raises even more concerns. If she continues to be the "same adorkable pony", staying in her library, then her coronation was all for naught. After all, what's the point of having a princess when she does nothing but what a normal citizen would do? Isn't that kinda missing the point? If she's a princess, then she is burdened with the task of being a leader. And she can't exactly do that if she sits around in the Golden Oaks Library all day. Equestria wants to see a leader, not an antisocial unicorn librarian with a pointless pair of over-sized wings on her back. This is surely going to leave the show in a rut, as the story moves back and forth between Twilight's duties like a rat in a maze with no exit. I could go on and on, to be honest. but I'll stop here so I can take some responses from some of you (that is, if you're not too busy bowing down to the gods of Hasbro's marketing department).
  16. I remember when Twilight used to be relatable. I remember when she used to make mistakes. I remember when she depended on her friends. I remember when she struggled to get her word out and when she did, they'd just laugh it off. But not anymore. Now it's all about how hard it is to adjust to being a princess. That's not relatable at all. Now Twilight solves all the problems on her own without needing her friends. She's essentially just a cute princess that has to go on magical adventures. What makes it even worse is the she shouldn't be a princess in the first place. She's easily the least capable of the Mane 6 in terms of ruling. Just look at the mess she caused in Lesson Zero. But everything is going to be fine now, because Twilight will no longer have any of these problems. Now that she became a princess for one of the dumbest reasons ever, she will always be right and will never make any more mistakes. Her friends are now nothing but a bunch of inferior sidekicks that will never have what she has.
  17. Why is everyone obsessed with Rainbow Dash teaching Twilight how to fly? She already seems to be flying alright from what we've seen so far. Meanwhile, we're supposed to forget about Scootaloo, right? They still have yet to explain why she can't fly. If anypony were to get flight lessons from Rainbow Dash, it would be Scootaloo.
  18. Why are so many people nitpicking on my posts instead of just reading them in their entirety? Yes, I fully understand the definition of "Racist". What I was trying to say is that the show seems to treat alicorns like they're somehow superior to the others. Even if it's true that Cadance was a pegasus (which she wasn't originally planned to be), there's still the question of why she had to be an alicorn to be a princess. What was wrong with her normal form? What ever happened to Platinum (from Hearth's Warming Eve)? She wasn't an alicorn. So why then does Twilight (and possibly Cadance if what The Pinkazoid is saying is true) automatically become an alicorn when she gets her stylized promotion? It wouldn't be as bad if she were one or the other. But being both for no apparent reason (other than to look more princessy) just feels slightly unsettling.

  20. The writers were probably thinking "Wait, doesn't twilight like books? Okay, let's have her ask if there's a book for that." All sarcasm put aside, by the time , it was obvious how out of character she had become. Simply throwing in a laugh line about "if there was a book for that" does not change the fact that this episode butchered her character.
  21. Uggh! That line was totally tacked on last minute. And don't even get me started with this whole "Adorkable" thing. As for the Hot Minute, you can tell that the wings were just slapped on with very little effort (they hardly move at all).
  22. Bronyland Pony Personality Test seems extremely glitchy. /:

  23. Having everypony submit to her and giving her the ability to fly eradicates two of her biggest weaknesses. It's not too crazy to call this overpowered. Try to think of one thing any other member of the mane have that Twilight doesn't. Only minor things come to mind (such as Pinkie Pie's "Pinkie Sense" or Rainbow Dash's extraordinary flying abilities). They used to be major points to the storytelling. Now our beloved undeserving alicorn princess can do both (using her magic while flying could easily ruin what would've been a difficult situation). The only good thing that could come out of this would be more powerful villains. However, being that much more powerful would downsize everypony else. Soon it would feel more like "battle of the gods" than being relatable, which was the main reason we loved the show to begin with. Sorry, but am I the only living being in existence who has never played Pokemon? You can keep telling yourself that. But a simple look around will tell you the exact opposite is happening. The synopsis of Equestria Girls is a perfect example. They've already recklessly bashed her character, and they'll continue to do so. Being a magical unicorn simply wasn't enough for them, so they made her an alicorn princess. But lo and behold, even that wasn't enough. So they came up with a way to make her a bratz doll in high school. And while I'm here, can I just say that I'm extremely bummed that the main villain seems to be nothing more your typical "popular girl"? And it had to be Sunset Shimmer of all ponies! They could have gone with any other design they wanted to and it still probably would have worked. Sunset Shimmer had so much potential to be an interesting protagonist (maybe she could've been an optimist of sorts that would've caused some friction between her and Twilight and eventually they would have to settle their differences in order to help the rest of the Mane cast defeat some common enemy). That would've worked like a charm in both story writing originality and in retail sales ('New pony in the show! Yay! Imma buy a new figure now!"). Such a pity. May I remind you that Magical Mystery Cure was supposed to give us a good first impression on Twilicorn? And in that respect, it failed miserably, as can be seen by the fact that even pro-Twilicorn fans are speaking out against the episode. TL;DR: People need to stop pushing away valid arguments by simply putting off their own concerns by saying "Trust the Writers". Everyone makes mistakes. This is true of even the best of writers. They are not gods.
  24. Since when was there a connection between cutie marks and puberty? It's just an overused, unoriginal, and unfunny joke. Discovering one's special talent does not automatically kick start adolescence.
