  1. I find Doraleous himself a pretty engaging character. (Sir Walken, too) Though, the best character has GOT to be the Lady in the Lake. (since the latest episode, she is now my favourite. what a troll)
  2. I recently came across an insanely entertaining show and decided to I should share it to those who have not seen it. It's called Doraleous and Associates Start from the last one at the bottom of the list. It's actually the first of the series. The sheer mix of personalities is excellent, the plot is decent and the voice actors are pretty tight. p.s. this is a comedy x adventure skit thing, just to warn you*
  3. I have my personal belief that some people should be given purely positive support first. I used to be like that. Until the day SOMEONE(I will never forget that d***f***, even if I know he helped me, he clearly didn't intend to) told me I couldn't do something I really wanted to. I was mad enough to change my entire lifestyle over what he said.
  4. I had, once, with another caring friend, convinced our third friend(I still play games with him and he's still a favourite chat for fun topics) to quit smoking over time. I believe MLP can have similar effects to certain people. It's great enough to encourage entire communities of different people to come together in a civil manner to enjoy it. Why not? I'm more to heavy-motivator shows like TTGL and other widely-acclaimed and insanely motivational series, though I firmly believe in my previous statement.
  5. continuing* I know what you're saying, but I can't expect everyone to be as mature on such matters. That's what this thread was generally intended for. I'm sure not everyone will have similar ideals, but I'd like to at least see the general, personal output of other bronies.
  6. I actually wanted to go by Aka or Lae. (Aka is my most common(ideal) online nickname and Lae is short for Laevateinn) However, for MLP, I decided on a personal ideal twist of Twily's name instead. That being said, I haven't been called any nice names yet. My real name is very rare to see in my own country, my surname is one of the most stereotypical of my race and the rest of my name is pronounced in an uncommon way. Most of my given nicknames are to taunt/tease my long hair. (as a guy, having long hair is a joke for most here) I guess the only one I ever liked was "Genius". I know it was probably meant sarcastically, but I found it quite impressive in my own way.
  7. This is what worries me more than anything when trying to post on art topics. For certain genres of forums(particularly rage-kid pvp forums), I won't even bother holding back. People like them(and me) don't give up, rather, they get annoyed/mad/etc and work harder at it. However, I don't see MLPForums as such a harsh environment and cannot bring myself to critique. I might be wrong, so I want more opinions first before I make a final decision to leave the art section alone permanently.
  8. Poetic, but not actually answering my question. What do you think of such critiques? What if I told you I think your avatar is ugly? (of course, let's just assume it was your own work) Let's pretend I gave some detailed explanation of where you did it badly or something. How would you think of me? I already mentioned that I can see art as subjective. What concerns knowledge here is that it fuels skill. Critiques, from where I see, are an evaluation of worth and skill.
  9. Not to say it's bad in any sense. I do believe that art is a subjective matter and whether it's good or bad varies. However... let's say somepony goes to art school and has higher standards than what we usually see here on MLPforums. Of course, he/she will be civilized about it, but he/she will throw out so many mistakes to fix that it's hard to see it in terms of him/her being helpful. He/she isn't particularly talented or great with it, but personally, he/she is confident he/she is good enough with enough experience to give said critique. Of COURSE it will sound harsh when there's a list of 10-50 mistakes. (exaggeration, but you get the idea) He/she won't directly say it sucks, but the sheer number of objective correction makes it obvious he/she thinks it is bad. To make it clear.. IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER FOR MOST, IT WILL LOOK VERY VERY VERY VERY MEAN AND HARSH. ONLY THE MOST TOLERANT OF BRONIES WILL TAKE IT KINDLY. IT WILL SOUND AS IF SOMEONE IS MAKING YOUR VERY EXISTENCE LOOK BAD. (art is still a form of expression, anyone who shoots it down, will sound harsh, regardless of tone or manners, in my experience)
  10. Though this is actually pretty petty, I've been following a pattern recently. There are many threads I'd like to post in, but whenever they have a moderate to large number of replies already, I tend to just not post there. I also find I can't comment on art topics because it's a fairly touchy subject. (drawing/painting/etc is a show of self-confidence, especially if you post it... I have an obvious habit of trying to detail the mistakes rather than the finer points) So here are my questions. ----- Do you normally read ALL the posts in a thread with many replies? (say 20 or more) (realistically, of course) & What do you think of people who give negative art critique and claim to have experience but do not have any proof nor intend to offer proof at all? (many, if not all of the art thread replies I have seen seem to praise rather than give such critique) ----
  11. If they were real, they would be lab rats for genetic transformation and the use of magic as a future means of power efficiency. On topic. Fluttershy is amazing, but one of her traits that I find irresistable is her voice. That be lackin' here. Nice try, though.
  12. The amount of corn is staggering. Plot/story-wise? Not the best way. As mentioned, it would make an 'okay' ending, though not a very fun one given that it just turned into a praise-fest for the Mane 6. OMG LOVEY DOVER-wise? Sure, why not. Personally? Considering that it doesn't seem to take ANYTHING to turn somepony into an Alicorn(except magic from another Alicorn?), the whole point of an Alicorn feels a bit dull since they have no downsides to being one as opposed to all other ponies. (I get they're Princesses and all, but jeebz, there should be some heavy cost other than being responsible for ruling Equestria, cuz clearly they're not gonna die anytime soon.) Short version. It probably won't be a nice way to go about it.
  13. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brony,_Łódź_Voivodeship On topic. I believe it as simply an adopted term for fanboys/girls(bro?) of the series/genre. Like how some gamers refer to each other by game-given nicknames like Tenno or Hero. I'd just say... 'anyone who wants to be a brony can be a brony, regardless'. I don't particularly hide this side, though, I understand and empathize as to why some would. Being a brony, as far as I'm concerned, is just being a supporter/fan/idealist/etc of MLP as a concept. It's not something given to people for being special or deficient. (well, it might be, though not by me)
  14. I don't know why she's popular, but if I had to say something for it, it would be... Cowgirls have their own charm. I've a different sense of liking for each pony. It's hard to rank them because they're not easily compararable with different traits and conditions.
  15. That's actually a bit inaccurate of a comparison Let's tally it up, shall we? Twilight has extensive knowledge and understanding of : A) Magic/Spells Lore/History C) Other species in Equestria D) Core logic (her capability of understanding things given a certain number of points) [compared to other ponies!] A bit harsh to say she can't learn the basics of flying with adult-sized Alicorn wings with the basic theoretical understanding. A closer comparison would be... A chess veteran with disabled legs that are magically healed learning how to sprint like a skilled athlete. I admit this may not be the case, but you should read all the other posts here which have given very possible suggestions, too. The ideal of denying a possiblity of any sort is something very limited to.... limited people. (no offense intended, that's the kindest way I know how to put it)
  16. I agree with every statement you have made. However, my point, as I see, still stands. I am an atheist. (sort of) I used to be a Christian. As a kid, it was awesome. Sunday school, fun stuff to do during weekends(had no games/net then) and so on and whatnot. Over time, I began to despise it. I realized that I enjoyed being a Christian simply because someone else had told me it was good and righteous to be one. I agree, we will always have haters for our admiration and fascination with MLP. However, we do not always need haters who hate us bronies AND MLP for trying to force them into it? In fact, we can avoid this, quite easily, given the choice, even. Would you go so far as to ruin the reputation of MLP for others as well as the reputation of us bronies just for the possibility of getting a few new bronies? This will not always be the case, but, it CAN happen and we CAN avoid it. We're even given the open option to avoid this particular brand of hatred. I still have my say. It is not the right answer? Perhaps it might not be. Still, why not allow people to find their own way to enjoy MLP rather than shove your own opinions over their decisions? I find that I tend to enjoy something most when I myself was the one to decide I liked it.
  17. She's an egghead. Is that a sufficient answer? Not to say it doesn't feel out of place, but it seems valid and it's very likely. Let's not forget that Twilight can learn spells in a single day. (she figured out a time travel spell in seconds) Given the likeliness that she has probably read about flying and how flight works with pegasi wings, that could be a reason. I agree that experience is usually a better teacher, but it's not impossible to learn something practical through theory.
  18. I don't think forcibly encouraging people to enjoy something is the way to go about this. It's one thing to introduce it to someone, but, actually wanting to CONVERT them? It's very similar to trying to force religion on others for your own personal interests. I know it's not that harmful, though I see little good in it. I have no credit to opinion in this matter, but, do you have some particular reason for wanting this? As I myself do not share the ideal of talking to such in my daily life, I cannot empathize with your issue. (my experience with fanchat for any topic has been little more than people going "OMFG THATS SO COOL", "YEAH IKR", "THEY SHOULD LIKE, BLA BLA BLA", "YEA SO PRO" and whatnot)
  19. I can only pick one? Harsh. Analyzer + Love and Tolerate. (except I don't make friends as I'm a bit mean when displaying my ability to allow everything a worth of opinion and when defending that)
  20. I'm fairly into it. I can't tell you what to hope for, but it's not a horrible thing to all. Anyone to say that which does not fit them is disgusting, have that right. Understand, though, it's a bit painful. Not so very long ago, hating on bronies for being disgusting, simply for enjoying MLP was something more common than it is now. Are we disgusting for liking MLP? If yes, then being here doesn't really add up too well. If no, why should those who like MLP in other ways be disgusting? This is my point of view, as I'm... a collector, of sorts. Since no r18 discussion is allowed, I shall phrase it differently. If you don't understand it, googling it has no meaning. I'm a collector of unusual artistic material.* It's only disgusting if you keep that as a mindset. It's actually quite common. Weird as a comparison, I've seen plenty of weirder stuff and have had weirder interests than such. Even on that side, MLP is a popular franchise.
  21. I'm with Justin on this. Not to say MLP has a bad sense of humor, but a joke is only truly funny the first time. (well, not always, just usually) MLP's brand of humor is something that's been around for awhile in a lot of anime, albeit the method for showing it off is clearly unique(for now).
  22. Get hospitalized before an exam. Game over. (depends on your country) Mine would be 0% because for some subjects, failing = 0 points. (actually it's 45% under, but once you hit that, it's an instant kill)
  23. She's mean? The meanest I recall seeing Rainbow Dash is when she pranks(which isn't at all intended in a negative way) or that time when she was picking her pet. Even then, she came to terms with herself, eventually. note; All the ponies are like that. You figure that even the Villians must have some friendship-related reason for their misery. (except for Discord, because I simply cannot picture the means in which he was created) I am too tired to go over it again, so, if you feel it necessary, do go over it again yourself. (I am physically, not mentally, tired)
  24. Not one for speculating, I'm just going to go with it. (I don't like discussing possibilities, it feels endless and.... endless) Thanks, Sing.
  25. My thanks, once again. Why do you refer to them as Cloudsdalers? Well, thanks for the welcome. (third time, yay) I'm not the type to go around welcoming everyone, so I'm actually quite impressed anyone is willing to do so, in a way.
